  1. Put the top coat on my SCA-1E/1960 Toyopet Stout project. How bloody 1960 is that looking!?! Might lose the stock bumpers?? Tempted just to spray it with semi-gloss and run it as it is, but decided to stick to the plan, So now will set about ruining it 🤣
  2. [Note to anyone reading this, only 90% sure I’ve got this right, so please feel free to contradict me 👍] 550 is the size, (the length of the can?) Speed is usually indicated by its T number. T stands for turns, or the number of times the wire is wrapped around the rotor. Generally the lower the T the faster the motor will spin, but the less torque it produces. From memory, standard ftx motor is a 15T, a reasonable compromise between speed and power. By contrast, my crawler has a 35T motor, really slow, but will pull up the steepest slope from a standing start. Never as simple as that as you can increase torque or speed by adjusting gearing within reason, and not all motors are made the same. Got to say, not madly impressed with the FTX one but at less than £8, can’t really complain. I put a 21T sport tuned motor in mine, and it was just as fast as the 15T ftx one but with an extra bit of torque..... but at 3 times the price. 🤔
  3. You got your moneys worth out of those bearings! 🤣🤣
  4. Next stage in my SCA-1E / 1960 Toyopet Stout project. Washed and masked the old shell. Going to have to paint this on the outside as I don’t have the budget for a new shell. Not as if this thing ever going to get road rash 🤣But when it does inevitably get scratched, I plan to patch it up with whatever paint I have available, hopefully giving a more organic, evolving old truck look (I think the technical term is “bag-o-*****”?) Anyways, in the meantime, took several coats of red before the old paint job stopped showing through. Quite like it in red, if this project turns out crap, will cover it all back in red and be quite happy with it 😀👍
  5. Super slow might not be such a bad thing for a beginner?
  6. Now you have another reason to switch to lipo 😈
  7. You pop the balance plug in it to protect it from mud etc.
  8. Stood next to the sign saying playground.... very appropriate. 🤣
  9. Also fitted the pretty brass that my beloved bought me as a valentines present (yes, I was surprised too!?!). Not really in keeping with old and battered look I’m going for but they’ll soon get scuffed up. Adds a little weight to each axle (about an ounce each, probably insignificant really??)but same as the heavier wheels I fitted, I keep adding the same to front and back, isn’t it supposed to be better to have more weight at the front? Something to think about for the future...... Also, while I was at it, added spacers to raise the steering ackerman 5mm so it doesn’t foul the pumpkin. The standard plastic one is angled each end to clear it, but the “upgraded” steering kit has a straight one which rubbed the pumpkin on full lock and actually restricts the steering slightly....... sorted now.
  10. Thanks for that.... looking to stock up on screws 👍
  11. To be fair, I did it in a sealed container and washed it off straight away in the kitchen sink. The smell wasn’t really an issue and I got brownie points for bleaching the sink🤣
  12. Did a bit more to my SCA-1E/1960 Toyopet Stout project. Soaked the plasti-chrome parts in bleach to de-chrome them. Worked a treat, except I’d glued the headlight lenses in place and wanted to keep the chrome inside the light buckets, so set about the front grille with wet and dry until it was keyed up enough to paint.
  13. Finally stopped procrastinating and started the process of making my SCA-1E look a bit more like the 1960 Toyopet Stout it’s clearly based on. Decided to paint the wheels first.
  14. This is what I did to my Vantage 😂 (I did a longer thread about it elsewhere on here) THX1138 https://youtu.be/IT2aBZ9CWV0
  15. Absolutely brilliant way to motivate your lad 👍👍👍
  16. If the vid not working try this but prepare to be underwhelmed 😁 The observant among you may notice R2 has bailed out at this stage.
  17. Thanks. All the way through this thread I’ve struggled with the pics. I’ll try a YouTube link later but I wasn’t kidding, it’s a rubbish vid.
  18. For those that don’t know, THX1138 was the title of George Lucas’ first film in 1971. THX1138 pops up in all of his films after that.
  19. Didn’t like the way the lights were mounted and got a bit “creative” with some foam rubber and the mesh from a disposable barbecue. Thought about that backstory and decided to add some patina. Our hero(ine) had clearly had a few adventures on the way.......
