  1. Fitted the MT2 body shell, after removing the MT2 stickers and a bit of cutting to make it fit correctly. Got a couple of spaces ready for the msuk stickers from the other thread [emoji106] While I was at it I changed the shock oil. Existing was what came with the car. Not sure what the original oil was, but have read that 35w is ok for a firestorm. So that's what went in. Even on the bench it feels quite a lot stiffer. Hoping to get out to one of my usual bashing sites to test it out. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  2. I'm interested in some of these. Would like to see the mock up in black & orange (if that's poss) before deciding which colour to go for. 👍
  3. A bargain from eBay [emoji106] Just happened to be browsing one day and found this auction. It in great nick and I won it for only £13. Will need modifying a little to fit on the Firestorm. But I love the colours! Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  4. Not strictly my car, but my boys RC, that counts right!? [emoji848] After a heavy impact yesterday I stripped down the back end to check all was ok. The motor had come loose and did make a grinding sound. Luckily the pinion gear was ok and the motor itself seems ok, not bent at all. So put it all back together again. Thought I had a picture with everything thing out but it seems to have disappeared. But here's one mid dis-asemble Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  5. £444 but you do get a free nozzle, so that makes it ok [emoji13][emoji23][emoji1787] Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  6. Great vid on how to perform the repair. There's a crack in my Firestorm shell that cuts right across the top of the pillar. I have everything already apart from shoogoo. Will get some ordered and get it fixed ready for spring 👍
  7. Ok, thanks. Watched the video & can see how to change the settings [emoji106] Have messaged someone on YouTube who has a Comet to see what charger he uses. Just want to make sure I'm not going to fry the battery or even worse... Will post back Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks guys. What voltage setting would I need to put it on? Seen a couple of you tube reviews, but they only show it going down to 7.4v. Does the B6 have a 6.4v setting? Surely setting it 1volt higher will cause damage to the cells!?
  9. Got my boy the FTX Comet for christmas. The battery is a 6.4v 1000 mah Li-ion battery. Bought an extra spare so have two in total. The RTR box included a USB charging cable, which is ok - it does the job. Been looking to get something a little better than the USB jobby. Have done some research and can find loads of info about lipo's and different chargers. But what I can't find out is if the small 2s & 3s lipo chargers will safely charge a 6.4v li-ion (seems that 2s & 3s are only as low as 7.4v). I've been looking at B3 chargers on ebay such as this Imax B3 Slightly better chargers do indicate that they will charge LiPo/LiIon/LiFe (along with NiCD & NiMH etc). Something like this Imax B6 I'm thinking about getting an aditional battery (so 3 in total) for when he comes out with me. Or else after about 30 mins he'll be flat. So ideally I want to decrease charging times if poss. Or if the B3 will do the job I will probably buy 2 at once - they're cheap enough! Appreciate any advice. Thanks
  10. Christmas has now been and gone and Santa left my boy a spanking new RC car in his stocking. After much deliberation ended up ordering the FTX Comet buggy version. Final nails in the coffin for the Hurrican were: the standard tyres were quite hard, resulting in poor grip & the shocks weren't oil filled. So I figured that the FTX was at least hobby grade, with many spares available and upgradable in the future if required. Oh, also my boy had written his letter to santa and asked for an RC with a 'big bumper' - he meant spoiler 😝 so the FTX fit that perfectly. Glad I did, he loves it. My fears about it being too fast were squashed straight away, it's perfect for him. First run out was on grass, which obviously slowed it a little compared to gravel or tarmac. He's only had a couple or three runs out with it yet. We've been away so not had the oportunity. But each time he does his handling of it improves. Thanks to everyone who provided input
  11. Was seriously considering the FTX Comet today. So searched youtube and found a very in depth review/upgrade video series by @Praetor a member on here. He won the truggy version earlier this year from his gold membership. His youtube channel " RCing Around HQ " has a bunch of videos on it. The most conclusive one is the part 3 review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xus_ez2Clds&t=599s Basically he spent another £60 on it to get it running satisfactorily. Swapping the ESC,receiver, radio gear and battery. Which I know is all about personal preference. He wanted to get it running to its full potential and has the skills to do so. The most concerning part was that fact that it kept cutting out. Loosing power or RX/TX, but it would stop dead for half a second. He thought it was due to the ESC/RX combo. But that's not good, it will only lead to frustration. Now it is hardly a fair comparison in the depth of reviews. But the unboxing/review videos I've seen of the Absima Hurricane don't indicate any issues of this kind & I'm not naive to think that it wont have its own or similar issues. Also it has a 5 wire RX/ESC so upgrading it would be the same outlay as the FTX. But it seems to have a tight turning circle and I actually think that combined with being 1/18th scale will mean he can play with it outside of the house on our street. (Quiet cul-de-sac). Which means he would get more use out of it. A couple of vids have pointed out it really is only toy grade rather than hobby grade. But at this point in time I think that is perfectly suitable. I just keep coming back to this car. Think I will also try to build a small ramp so he can jump it. Some of the vids I've seen tonight have shown some inexpensive ones! Another little project for me 😁
  12. Been looking online and the FTX comet & seige are both 2WD. I was beginning to think that a 4WD would be the better option until I realised that they weren't. Seige is currently in black Friday deal but is probably still a bit pricey. Considering I would want an additional battery for what ever car I get, therefore pumping the final price up slightly. There's almost too much choice! I'm also trying to consider what will appeal to him and provide that wow factor as he opens it on Xmas day. I think initially the most use will be on tarmac and short grass. I'm thinking of the most common places that I go bashing. No where really has long grass. Gotta sleep on it and revisit tomorrow [emoji43] Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks for the additional comments. I appreciate the time you've taken to post such detailed responses. Definitely some food for thought. Future upgrades are a consideration along with ongoing repairs. As there doesn't seem to be any deals on any of these cars I will take my time to weigh up the options. As I'm not restricted to get it in time for black Friday. I'll make sure I post back which one I go for and how he gets on with it [emoji6] Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  14. Aah some gotchas then to ordering cheap items. Bargains come at a cost. I have a feeling that spares will be required at some point. So maybe the FL models won't be suitable if supporting it is potentially going to be tricky. Thanks for the info regarding cells and voltages. I've only got a nitro so will be a bit of learning for me to adjust to electric cars. All good stuff though! No-one has commented on the model I was considering. Is that because it's awful and I should steer clear? I think its going to come down to the Absima or an FTX. Is there much difference in handling between 4wd & 2wd. I know traction and off road capability would be. But what about the handling? Any difference with steering control? Or indeed any preference between the two? Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks for all of the suggestions. Have started looking at some of the cars. I have seen the FTX already which is a good contender. The WL toys brand I hadn't come across so will have a serious look into those too. Although the A959 does have 540 motor in it, so is likely to be fairly fast. But is only £36 on ebay! So unless I do go for a crawler to keep speed down (although they wont really have the same WOW factor). I think I'm going to have to accept the fact that it's going to be fairly quick and teach him throttle control right from the off, rather than try to let him suss it out himself. Not a bad thing I suppose and will mean plenty of practice 👍
  16. Hey folks. Have tried my boy with my Firestorm this summer and he found it a bit too sensitive and quick for him. He struggled to get to grips with it. Want to get him something for christmas to see if he can get the hang of it with something more suitable. I've read through a few threads with similar situations. Dad wanting something for their young son. Unfortunately my budget is even more restrictive to consider some of the suggested options. Plus the mrs. will go mad if I spend too much and he doesn't take to it. I've seen the Absima Hurricane which is more my budget. Watched a few different you tube videos. It seems to look fairly decent for the money. Only slight drawback is it's seems perhaps still a little too quick. Doesn't look as though the radio gear has any option to restrict the speed. Would need to invest in a different TX to alter/restrict it. Seems to have plenty of spare parts available as no doubt it will need them. Question regarding the battery. If they come with a USB charging lead will it charge from a USB power bank? You know, the same as mobile phone type. Woudl be handy to charge whilst in the field as it were. If he takes to it I'd maybe look to upgrade the batteries later on, but that's not important right now. Any opinions welcomed as are any alternative models.
  17. Can't see all of the body, but the colour stands out. Looking for a new body for the Firestorm 10T. Where did you get yours from? Seen a Nitro MT2 body that might do the job, but I'm open to suggestions [emoji6] Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  18. Just a liquid lunch today, thanks postie. Trying Optifuel for the first time. Some after run oil & shock oil. Never serviced the shocks and think they could do with it [emoji106] Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  19. Thanks for the heads up! Gotta get some more fuel so think I'll order some aro too. Can't hurt. & yeah your right regarding the garage. It does get condensation during the coldest periods. The other half has recently turned the spare freezer on too! Adding to the moisture in the air
  20. I tried searching for "after run oil" but it returned no results. 🤔 I can't imagine that this topic has not been covered but hey, I tried. So thought I'd ask you good folks your opinion. As autumn is looming, with winter not far away I guess it wont be long until I'll be putting my car away for a few months. Its running great at the moment, starts quickly, idles great and runs lovely. What is the best to do to try and keep it in that condition over the winter? Should I look at putting some after run oil in? Or does this depend on what type of fuel it's been run with? It will be kept in the garage, so will be subject to cold, but thankfully it doesn't suffer from damp. I've just about finished the 10 year-old tin of Tornado 20% I had stored with the car (yes it's been out of action for 10 years, until spring this year). This fuel was what the local hobby shop stocked and it's been fine. Speaking of fuel, any recommendations for which fuel to go for next? (local hobby shop has since closed down) What do you guys do before bedding down for the cold winter months?
  21. Initial readings were straight out of the box. Once it had been charged overnight it read 6.8v at the hump pack & 6.7v on the back of the servo lead. Took me a while to find the time to test everything, but I've been out a couple of times over the weekend / early this week. I'm pleased to say that everything is working well. Took a bit of time to setup up the trim on the new transmitter. Tuned the car & got the idle set perfectly. Car is running great! Thanks for the advice and guidance. 👍 The FlySky radio gear is good for the money it cost. Very reasonable. Just don't need any additional bells & whistles right now, so it suits my needs perfectly.
  22. A quick update. The hump pack has been delivered and I have fitted the new switch that came with it. The voltage readings on the pack alone was 5.7v. When operating both servos reading out of the back of the throttle servo was 5.6v. It's quite astonshing to note the difference. Hardly any loss of voltage through the circuit. Hopefully the radio gear will be here within the next day or two, so I can test the car once more. Will post back once I've given it a try!
  23. In the middle of fitting it now. 6volt hump pack and new switch for HPi Firestorm Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  24. I've order the 6v hump pack from Model Sport & the Flysky FS-GT2E with FS-A3 receiver from Ebay. Will take a few days for all of it to arrive. Hopefully all of this will resolve the issues. The hump pack will provide a good source of 6v power. The 2.4Ghz kit will prevent any potential interference & the FS-A3 receiver has a fail safe. Think that is all angles covered. 👍
  25. Thanks for the links, those look good and the receiver price difference is definately worth considering. If I had browsed eBay and seen those I would have thought they seem too cheap to be any good. So any recommendations from a forum member are appreciated. I will have a look at the options on ebay. It maybe that i end up getting a hump pack and new radio gear. Doesn't seem worth getting a failsafe if I can upgrade the radio gear for not much more money. The FlySky kit looks a reasonable price. Thanks
