  1. Found a bargain on eBay. £200 for a light use Typhon 3s v3 BLX, with charger & a 5000Mah 70C 3s lipo. It runs well and I'm mightily impressed with the handling. The Typhon corners like it's on rails, the low centre of gravity is a stark difference to the Granite.
  2. Found a suitable bearing on eBay - 5x16x5 metal shielded bearing for £2.28 delivered. Have fitted it and put the motor back together. Only connected it to the car to test it works. Needed a third hand to be able to video it. But it sounds like it's spinning ok again now. Will try and get it the car out this week if the weather holds long enough. With hindsight I probably didn't need to buy another motor in a hurry. But we live and learn 🤷
  3. Ok, so new motor turned up today. Tested before fitting and it seemed to spin ok. Fingers crossed the ESC seems to be OK. Have fitted it to the car but just as I finished it started tipping it down with rain. So I've only managed to run the car up and down the garage a grand total of about 2 meters of space (amongst all the junk). But it sounded OK & seemed to drive normally. Think I'll give a new bearing a shot on the old motor. Will update back in a few days after I've sourced and fitted one.
  4. Before dismantling it again, there was a bit of play when wiggling the shaft. But not too excessive. This seems as though the front bearing has failed. Took the shaft out and & I'm not sure the photo picks it up fully. But the shaft is scoured somewhat. The casing seems to be scoured too. No idea what this indicates? Nothing seemed to fall out, no debris or dust to speak of. Have seen bearings to fit the front on eBay for about £5-6. May be worth a punt!? Haven't got anything else that I can test the esc with. Although I've a new motor due in the post in the next couple of days.
  5. Have found a video on how to fully disassemble it. It also shows how to change the front bearing, after checking to see if it is bad I'll have another go at stripping mine down to see if I can make any headway. Seems that the bearing is the only replaceable part.
  6. Not sure how to get the motor core out & I don't want to risk further damage if that's avoidable. Even if I get it apart myself, what would the possible fixes be? At this point, if there is a chance it can be saved. I'm wondering if posting it to Modelsport would actually be the best thing to do.
  7. Thought it was dead, was a bit worried the ESC may have been broken too. Took the back off the motor today, not sure how else to take it apart. Found a shim that was bent, but not sure if it's supposed to be like that. I put it back together and fired it up. Still making horrible noises & then a whift of smoke appeared. Very broken! I did reach out to Modelsport support to see if they are any other options. Car is 15 months old, this issue is probably not under warranty. They offered to take a look at it if I post it to them. Not really sure if it's worth doing. I've already ordered a replacement (not from Modelsport) I just don't understand what caused it. I ran it last Saturday, had to deplete a lipo that had been charged for too long. Ran it on the road for about 10 mins. No jumps, no rain, no wheelies. Was working fine. Went to use it on Thursday & it was like this. What can cause a motor to die in such a way. Is it mesh too tight? Water ingress into the motor? Too much dust? Too much bashing? I just don't want to cause the same thing to happen in the future.
  8. Could you guys help me to diagnose my brushless motor from my Granite BLX? I fear the worse, but would like it confirmed. It doesn't sound right and doesn't provide enough power to spin the wheels. I've removed it from the car and it doesn't rotate fast enough and sounds pretty bad. I've uploaded a video here Not sure if this is much help. Is it terminal?
  9. Hi Phil. The ones I got from eBay didn't really do the job. They were a thinner bore than the stock ones so I had to go back to the standard parts.
  10. . I had to replace the antenna on my FS-GT3-B. I think someone (children) had been holding the transmitter by the antenna and it had broken the pins that hold it together. Quite pleased as my soldering skills aren't the greatest. All working ok so far
  11. Another vote for Zee and Goldbat from Amazon. I've got one of each - 3s 5200 mAh 60C. Both been running ok so far. Prices can differ though, so check Amazon and eBay for which ever is cheapest at the time. They also do the same batteries with different connectors. So make sure you search thoroughly, you may find the connector type you need!
  12. My boy has got an FTX comet. The stock battery doesn't last long and only charges from the supplied USB charger. Which takes about 2 hours to charge. This LiFe battery fits https://www.makeitbuildit.co.uk/fast-charge-battery-1700mah-20c-life-48249 But requires a charger such as this https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/etronix-powerpal-pocket-2-lipo-life-balance-charger-380111 This will extend the run time to about 20 mins and takes about an hour to charge. Will power the brushed motor happily. I have also have a donor car and tried a 2s lipo with a discharge rate of 35c on the standard brushed motor. It only lasted about 15 minutes before it burnt out. So it doesn't mean you can't run a 2s, but maybe a low discharge one at 10c or something like that. Proceed with caution! I ended up upgrading it to a brushless motor with a new ESC, servo and RX. Can provide you more details if you want 😉
  13. When I saw the Bandit I liked the wheels and wondered if they'd fit on my boys FTX Comet. 12 mm hexes on there too. Here's hoping!!

    Lipo batts

I've not used any of those either I'm afraid. But I'm currently using Goldbat lipos from Amazon. You don't have to pay a fortune for a decent lipo these days. Or, if they're cheap enough you don't mind so much if they fail, or swell etc 😜
  15. These have now sold on Ebay. Got back what I paid for them, so can't complain at that. Please close thread.
  16. This hard case split. Was stored in the garage, bought inside the house to charge. Left it for about 40 mins to "warm-up". Charged OK, but next morning it was like this.
  17. Took the re-built Granite out for a test in the sunshine ☺️ Feels like a totally different machine now that it's actually got some oil in the diffs & 20K has tightened it up loads. Can actually power slide now without it tipping over. How it started - bent engine mount and wrecked slipper clutch assembly & cracked chassis How it went: stripped completely How it finished - about £150 later Doing what it does best:
  18. I've not had any interest on these, so I'm going to have to list them on eBay. PM me if you are interested. I'll keep this thread open until they (hopefully) sell on there.
  19. Arrma Motor Mount Set - ARA311106 Needed a new one of these for my Granite and I was not able to find any stock in the UK. All sites (ModelSport, WheelSpin & couple of others) I tried expect shipment by end of Jan. I couldn't wait that long so I filled my shopping cart at https://tamico.de/ but they require a minimum order of 160 Euros to ship to UK. So I ordered an extra 2 of these to see if I can re-coupe some cash by re-selling them either here or Ebay. Had to pay import fees on the parcel so I can't re-sell for cheap. But if you need one I can ship straight away - rather than wait until end of Jan. £25 for one unit plus PayPal fees - I estimate those to be £1.03 & postage £2. Will combine if you want both. This model number is listed as a part for the Granite, Typhoon, Big Rock, Senton, Vorteks, Vendetta & an upgrade part for the Infraction: https://www.arrma-rc.com/part/ARA311106
  20. Starting rebuilding my Granite after getting a load of new parts. Also serviced the diffs - was shocked to see how little oil was in there. Cleaned them out and replaced with 20k diff oil. I could tell the difference after doing the first one just from turning it by hand. Hopefully it will improve the handling. First image is the diff before - can you make out how little oil was in there? f This is re-filled - again difficult to see: Got the back end put back together on the new chasis:
  21. Postie kindly delivered this little lot today. I can start the Granite rebuild after smashing it up a couple of weeks before xmas.
  22. I got a Comet for my boy when he was 6. Time flies and he's had it 2 years now, ready for an upgrade to a bigger car now. You can fit one of these for a longer run time https://www.makeitbuildit.co.uk/fast-charge-battery-1700mah-20c-life-48249 But it's out of stock here currently. But have a search for CRA194 LiFe battery. I've actually upgraded ours to brushless and have got a couple of Fancy Whoop 2s LiPo's. But be warned I ran one on our donor car and it burnt out the stock motor. I can't find the 2000mAh 25C version we have for sale anywhere. But did find this 1500mAh 15C version. You will need to check the dimensions will fit in the battery compartment, I dont have mine to hand right now. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234316645748?hash=item368e5c4574:g:EfIAAOSw46FhiN55
  23. Interesting info there regarding temperature cause & effect. Seems that storing them in a cold garage is OK, but they do need to be brought up to temperature before charging. Maybe as mine is a hard case LIPO this would also affect the time to come up to room temp, needing longer. I use this charger https://www.skyrc.com/Charger/e680 & charged at 6.2A (1C) from a storage charge state.
  24. I think the Typhoon 6S shocks will fit the 3S platform. Here's a good resource on the Arrma forum about this subject. Loads of info and replacement ideas. https://www.arrmaforum.com/threads/important-please-read-arrma-6s-arrma-mega-4x4-blx-3s-and-blx-4s-shock-information-and-upgrades.7413/
  25. Nice pic & glad you're enjoying the Granite. I've only had mine 3 months and I love it. It defo has daft fun factor and I think on 3s its bloody quick. How did you find cleaning the salty sand off after a trip to the beach? Did you clean it the same day? I live in Cornwall and have taken my Firestorm out on the sand but had to replace the ON/OFF switch last time as it got slightly splashed and had siezed up & rusted by the next day. Let alone the rusting on the driveshafts. So have held off taking the Granite yet, don't want to risk it suffering a similar fate. Can see you got the aftermarket roof and rear bumper guards, do they hold up well? Wish I'd put them on before I wrecked my shell. Was too late after the first couple of tests out on the street and it skidded along the road on the rear and made a lovely friction burn through one corner 🙄
