  1. Feels similar to the change in legislation over air weapons here in Scotland. You now need a certificate for them, and have to pay for it. All brought in because some wee neds on a scheme shot a toddler. Would they now apply for a certificate? Would they have even bought the weapon from a shop? It is nuts. Oh and there is no record of what air weapons you own, or how many. So none of the guns are traceable. You just have a bit of paper saying you can own them. As said above the reason for bringing in the law on face of it is for the good. It will allow the police to have more power when dealing with muppets. It is just that the common person who is going to have to pay.
  2. Glad it all went back together Iain, and you are enjoying. I started off by helping keep my son's rc car going. We had loads more pleasure out of it that I thought we would, I thought it was going to be a 5min wonder....And then I decided I had to get one to to play with too. Got an FTX vantage. This forum is brilliant, and a credit to all the members who contribute. (I'm a relative newbie)
  3. There are loads of videos on Youtube, to use for reference. A couple I found useful when doing my Vantage:-
  4. There are people way, way more knowledgable than me that I am sure will give you some more detailed advice, on how to fault find etc. Few obvious things that spring to mind:- The NiMh batteries have a bit of a memory, so you need to run them flat before charging again. If you don't then they won't get a full charge. Used to do this on my son's car by just driving it until it would go no more, switching it off and on again doing the same. If you store them for a while they sometimes need a couple of cycles to get the full potential back again. You don't say what charger you are using. Some chargers will check the health of the battery and tell you how much is going in. Running the car in long grass will drain the batteries much quicker (but not as quickly as you are saying) due to the increased resistance. I also would buy batteries from an online shop (like Modelsport), so you know what you are getting, and if there is a problem you can send them back. Welcome to the forum Iain
  5. Took my Vantage out for the first time in a while today, and what do you know within 10mins, it isn't working ☚ī¸ The spur gear has gone, no teeth left. To be fair it is the original one, and I have had it for maybe 18 months. So the question is, what to replace it with? I have read back through some of the earlier posts in this thread, some saying just buy a stack of the cheap ones, some saying they have gone for the aluminium, and also upgrade the pinion. I see Modelsport also have a hardened acetal version. Some of the posts are from a coupld of years ago now, so I was wondering what you guys reckon is the best way to go now? TIA
  6. This is very clever, god only know how much it cost him!
  7. Depends on what you want do with the car. On carpet the spiked ones like the Schumacher Mini Dart On tarmac Fastrax Arrow Bashing, the mounted cuboid https://www.modelsport.co.uk/fastrax-1-10th-mounted-cuboid-black-buggy-wheels-and-tyres-rear/rc-car-products/434085
  8. Lipos will make the car go faster, and they lighter, last longer etc. All good 👍 You will need to change the settings on the esc if you are running Lipos though. It has a low voltage cut off to save your battery. Using lipos might also mean you run through your brushed motor quicker. Brushwd motors are cheap to swap out, or you can upgrade at that point to Brushless. Batteries will last longer if you don't run the car on long grass - less resistance. The Nimh batteries also benefit from being used a bit, so you might find they are better next time. Still worth getting a proper charger to cut down on the charge times. One last thing to consider is, how old is your son? The faster car with Lipos might be harder to control for him to begin with. Might be better to get the charger, a couple of Nimh batteries, and then upgrade the car to brushless and lipo later. It is a great thing to do with your kids, especially if they are mechanically minded. Me and my son have had as much fun fixing and upgrading the car as we have bashing them. 😁
  9. Just seen that FTX have releaced a new version of the Carnage https://www.bigsquidrc.com/ftx-carnage-2-0-1-10th-brushed-monster-truck-rtr/ I wonder if that means there will be updates to the Buggsta and Vantage too? Not too many details on it yet. They don't seem to have changed too much other than "two new bodyshell schemes and colours, chrome plated wheels, Etronix 3ch radio and a new 60amp rated brushed esc"
  10. Hi BIG-T, Firstly welcome to the forum. 👍 Not sure I can offer much advice, but thought I would reply so at least you wouldn't feel like nobody has read this! I would be suspicious of the ESC, or a loose cable connection. You can test motors, but you either need expencive scopes and equipment to do it, or to take it out and drive it with a drill to measure the output using a multimeter. All of whch you might risk invalidating the warranty by playing with. Is there any way you can take it back to the shop or return it? One of the things to check with a new car is to make sure all the screws, nuts and bolts are tight, might be worth checking the other car too.
  11. Has anybody got CAD files for the front and rear shock plates and the top plate? We have just bought a 3d printer at work, and I fancied trying to print some replacement parts. I could measure them up, but would mean stripping down the car to do it so.
  12. A few good websites I have used to find routes when on holiday:- https://www.trailforks.com/region/united-kingdom/ http://www.mtbtrails.info/Trail_main_page.aspx Looks like there isn't mucharound Cambridge! A bit further east at Thetford looks more interesting. Best bet is to find a good bike shop and ask the local knowledge. Good luck.
  13. Wow, that looks like quite a good deal if it is actually all carbon, and not just aquagraphic coating.
  14. The skate park at Rouken Glen is good. If you are going to try the Whitelee, there is a bit of the MTB track that is a pump track that is fun. There is also a new pump track at the Commenwealth MTB track at Cathkin Braes, but we haven't tried it yet. Might be too busy, but looks awesome! https://www.google.com/search?q=pump+track+cathkin+braes&client=ms-android-ee-uk-revc&prmd=misvn&sxsrf=ACYBGNQ9OhFXGH35A7zCGVqCtLkNj02aiw:1571514033912&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiSyID-ianlAhUbiFwKHeqsACQQ_AUoAnoECA8QAg&biw=360&bih=657 We have also been to the skate park in the West end. It is kind of opposite the Kelvinside Museum, on the other side of the road.
