  1. Well those 2 comments were pretty pointless seeing as he clearly stated he wants a nitro? Op: it depends what you want mate, if you're looking into buggies then the hyper 7 is a pretty solid choice for your budget, you could go down the second hand route and maybe get something of a higher spec but with the gamble of how it's been treated in the past both car wise and more worryingly; engine wise, and it could et expensive.
  2. It all depends on the person, if you're mechanically minded and willing to fettle then you'll have a lot of fun with a nitro. A lot of people will say electric because it's easier to plug in a bettery and pull the trigger, and you don't have to worry about any noise complaints but I've always got a lot more out of nitro, the sound, smell and fact that there's a real engine there is just more satisfying and characterful than an electric motor. Nitro engines aren't rocket science, they're very simple but can be temperamental at times and frustrating, but there's a wealth of information online about them and you can learn everything you need to know within a few hours research (if your memory is good ) So, if youre mechanically minded and have a bug for an engine powered car, and have places you can use your car without worrying about any noise complaints then go for nitro. If you want ease of use and need to please the neighbours then go electric.
  3. Tamiya are very good, if you can still find readily available spare parts for it then yes, go for it. If they're few and far between or expensive then don't bother
  4. I'm a nitro man through and through. But I'd have to say if you're not mechanically minded or have a lot of patience, they're not a good choice for a beginner. The engines are dead simple, a carburettor that consists of a slide and 2 needles that regulate fuel, a 2 stroke design with a tapered bore and a glow plug that ignites the fuel. But they can be temperamental, running them in is a ball ache and very boring, and the variables with environmental factors can leave the beginner stumped as to why their car isn't running right or not atall, do your research, have the patience and learn about the engines, all the knock on effects of carb adjustments and you're quids in, and they're a hell of a lot of fun, but for a kid of yours' age, they'd get fed up in no time, I would. Stick with electric for now, the only thing your lad will get bored with is waiting for the batteries to charge! As for cars, I don't have much experience with electric, I built my first, a Tamiya Land Freeder cc01 just the other day, but I can recommend FTX, as I have the nitro Hooligan, and as the plastics aren't the best quality, I've found they're pretty well put together, won't break the bank and the spares are as cheap as chips, if he breaks something he'll most likely be able to replace it with his pocket money I think your lad would enjoy an electric Hooligan, I've ran my nitro one through reasonably long grass and its coped well, and the protection the big foam bumper at the front gives is good.
  5. Good effort man, I like the dedication despite the comments, I myself started off with a high end RTR but I've modified lower end cars to better them despite what people would say about it. My Schumacher Riot for instance is fairly badass I'd try and sort that camber out though, it's about as negative as my Mini's back wheels on 8.5J, I can imagine the negative handling effects are even more noticeable on an RC car Running it on full throttle with no load will make it hotter than it should though, and as said, the gearing plays a big part in the temperature that the motor runs at as it can over work, it shouldn't be running too hot
  6. The wheels are deffo Thunder tiger ssk but the rest of it isn't. Shock towers aren't, arms are too long, ssk doesn't have sway bars or a wing and the chassis is flat. So my guess is it might well be a thunder tiger truggy of some sort
  7. Nice! Should be a solid car when it's built! I'm stuck at work from this morning til tomorrow night and then until Saturday night so I won't be starting my shell until Atleast Sunday, bummer as I'm impatient
  8. Cheers mate I'll take a look at that lot, and thanks for the link, ordered those, shame I've got to take it apart now to put them in! Should've waited it out
  9. Not long finished putting it together!! Started at 12ish finished properly at around 6, with a trip to b&q in between. First Tamiya kit and it went together a breeze, very impressed with the quality too, just the fiddly bit now of bodywork! And you've got a good pile of upgrades going on!! What's there??
  10. Thanks for your help matey, turned out if plugged the esc into the wrong port on the receiver, too used to nitro electrics
  11. Just finished putting together my cc01 land freeder and I'm struggling to get the motor to work. I know nothing when it comes to electric cars but I read the instructions with the esc and did the process to select brushed mode for the motor, but all it will do is flash a green light and beep at me. I get no throttle or reverse. Steering works fine though?
  12. A what now?! Shocks are pants as I expected but it won't be doing too much hard work so the tyres can stay for now. What I'm most disappointed with are the 'bearings' which consist of plastic discs... Should've bought a full ball bearing kit with it but forgot
  13. Sorted! That's good then mate, yeah the red label doesn't look as clean especially in the font either but thankfully it's legit
  14. Never seen a red label like that on a Savox tbh.. It might be fake but I'm no expert, sure someone else will know for certain
  15. Nothing unfortunately. Take note of you buy anything from Wonderland models; I paid £6.95 for so called "express" delivery, order put through and paid for on Tuesday night. It's only just been posted at about 3pm today (Friday) and won't be here until Monday. Very express!
  16. From my understanding, polycarbonate spray is simply flexible so that it doesn't flake off when the body gets bent about, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a plastic body
  17. Nearing completion, just a few more fixings to make to put some more of the cars on the walls, and some reinforcing of the window/hatch and general security. Taken me about 3 weeks or so out of scrap wood and old paint we had laying about, and a few bits bought from ikea and eBay like the chair, part of the worktop, lights and carpet.
  18. Yup. My gf's dad has been a lifelong city supporter, says that it's the ponces who support United, tends to be the working man who supports city. Got him a Man U mug with his name on it a couple Christmas's ago and he almost broke my nose
  19. Seen a couple about on eBay and on YouTube, they look smart and I've heard that they sound quite different, presumably because of how the fumes resonate through it. Not sure about power though, different materials alter power slightly in 2 strokes, mild steel tends to make more than stainless systems on motorbikes Atleast, hopefully someone on here can shed more light on them
  20. I've noticed these Cen pipes seem quite desirable, how come??
