  1. Yes indeedy Hope to be testing my CC01 up in the woods this weekend, weather permitting!
  2. Hi peeps, is there another upgrade steering setup besides the one from Asiatees? I bought both the linkage and alloy kit, and both are just rubbish - a couple of parts were out of tolerance, and one of the ball joints just snapped off on it's first use; I'm going to put the original stuff back on (because despite the slop at least it works) but would like to do something with it in the future when I'm less angry. Not sure how I'm going to get the end of the ball joint out. Sigh.
  3. Ain't that the truth! It took me three attempts to get the steering kit on my CC01 right while I was off work ill ... I ended up swearing a lot and just giving up. Came back to it today, feeling better, and it just fell together right Its looking good though!
  4. I'm still fighting some kind of cold, but still managed to get the back body mounts done and the servo showed up in the post so I popped that in and went for a spin around the living room with the electrics just sat on top The to-do list (in no particular order): Proper mounting setup for the electrics Test drive in the woods Fancy winch-compatible front bumper Rear towing point Tie down strips to hold stuff on the back Get a different ESC with a drag brake Make scale bungee chords
  5. Oh cool, whats the ratio difference? Is it like the Twin Hammers gearbox, with one regular gear and then a much lower ratio for crawling?
  6. Thats a very cool kit Is the transfer case cover metal?
  7. Did some running repairs to the Kitty Wagon shell - glued some milk bottle bits to the back then gaffer tape both sides ... not sure how much more damage it can take, lol
  8. Also put much lighter oil in the front shocks ... the 5w might be a bit on the light side of ideal, but it drop tests ok.
  9. Front body mounts done properly with square chocks etc (they look like they bow out in the photo, but that's caused by my phone's lens)
  10. Well, I've had the Mustang for a while now and haven't broken anything. Just made a few tweaks here and there and put on a Deans connector, with a 2s in it runs just fine for my needs For future reference, the Mustang doesn't have headlight bowls, which is a pity since it's a very pretty shell.
  11. *prop, even. I'm thinking I might need to streamline the join slightly as it could get snagged on things ... or I could get on with knocking together a skid plate that bows around the prop. Hmm.
  12. 1" longer proper shaft, courtesy of the lovely machinist at work I've also ordered a servo and alloy steering linkage since it was payday yesterday!
  13. Mmm, that 1:1 Sand Scorcher makes me want a Baja bug!
  14. Just finished replacing the bearings in the Kitty Wagon, after I chewed through a few of them on Saturday. Just need to repair a little crack in the body and it'll be good to go again
  15. Finally got on with the battery tray, I did have plans of putting it up front between the inner wings but couldn't quite engineer out how to hold the back of the battery in a satisfactory manner given the very silly placement of the steering linkage & servo ... on the plus side, this does keep the battery up and out of the way of most water (I'll be covering up the original battery opening on the side)
  16. Yeah, loads of amazing stuff there! Especially liked the crawler tow rig
  17. Stodgy to me usually means full of fat and sets like concrete, lol The shocks are for my CC01, I'll bear the cooking oil idea in mind ... might make my truck smell a bit weird though, lol
  18. Oh wow, those are great photos - thank you!! my understanding is that the RC4WD winch is slightly bigger than the Integy one, but if I build it for the former then I can have choice when the time comes :-) Yeah, that would be the ideal way to do things, but next month is MOT time so I won't be spending much on RC stuff, and I have some ally offcuts from work that won't cost me anything to attack with my coping saw
  19. Cool, I was thinking about that with regards to doing swirly patterns a while back, it's really nice to hear it does work and useful to know that extra coats are needed!
  20. Cool, thanks! After asking the question I had a brainwave, I have some 5w oil kicking around that I could just throw in to try ... if that turns out too thin at least I'll have a frame of reference, but you never know it might be right, lol I could also try some of the 5W30 engine oil I have around too (since at room temp it'll be a bit stickier than the 5w), or mix them since they're both dino juice. Experimenting with homebrew solutions is fun
  21. A pair of my shocks are way too stodgy, where's a good place to get some light oil for them?
  22. Since I'll be making a front bumper soon I figure it would be best to factor in space for a winch - whats are the dimensions of regular ones? (I'll probably get an Integy one)
  23. Conversely, my electrics and other people's dogs have had plenty of fun chasing each other around, and I've had a laugh with many dog owners as a result. I'd say its probably best being calm and reasonable when dealing with anyone who has an official capacity (especially if they're thinking above their station), rather than being awkward and obstructive - as someone already said, asking them what the specific problem is and for advice on where you /can/ drive your RC might garner some useful info. To be honest, 5th scale petrol cars are big, noisy, and could really hurt a dog / duck / kid if there was a collision, so the onus really needs to be on you to find suitable places to run one.
  24. Well, I felt like rubbish this morning so didn't get along to the London scaler fun day (though my rig isn't ready yet anyways I was hoping to trundle along and take some photos and chat to people) ... after lunch I was a bit better so braved the elements for a little bashing. I swapped the radio gear that was giving the Kitty Wagon trouble out, which worked so well I could do some top speed testing - somewhere between 20 and 25mph I recon - which in turn meant I destroyed all the original bearings, lol So now I'm waiting for a new set in the post before I can unleash it's awesome again. Still, it was good fun and got me some fresh air that I desperately needed
  25. Took the Kitty Wagon out for it's first run with a new configuration (new stuff: Turnigy 80A ESC, 3520 brushless motor, 2S Lipo, shiny electric mounting plates). It's now bonkers quick, keeps lifting the front right wheel for some reason, and is basically uncontrollable at full throttle (spins out, flips over, or just sits there spinning the back wheels) - target achieved Got ~40 minutes runtime, but couldn't really open it up due to a receiver issue (cut out at about a 10 meter range), which is probably for the best since the bearings are due for replacement! I think I need to invest in some decent radio gear
