  1. Finally got my CW-01 Unimog finished. Well, the lights still need wiring in and the driver needs painting. Here it is with my original '89 Pumpkin and the Fuzzbox I built a couple of years ago.
  2. My unrestored Midnight Pumpkin that I built in 1989 (still runs fine) with my new Lowride Pumpkin.
  3. Got bored of seeing my abandoned Lowride Pumpkin build cluttering up the garage, so threw it all together.
  4. I parked my build 'cos it wasn't really doing it for me. I knew what I wanted it to look like in my head, but I couldn't seem to make it happen. I wanted wide wheels that stick out past the arches, but struggled to find any with suitable offset. HPI Vintage wheels look great but i couldn't get it to sit right on those. Bored of just tripping over it all, I finally threw it together this week. Still not quite what I was after, but not far off. Cheap BBS-style drift wheels/tyres, hop-up rear uprights to correct the ridiculous toe-in, wider hexes on the back and thin spacers on the front, and rear springs swapped for longer silver ones. Body has had the roll-bar mounts removed, extra holes filled, the front arch corners shaved slightly and a wooden bed added. It's got the proper FORD tailgate and V8 grille from my original 1989 MP spares, and Shapeways 3D-printed taillights. It still needs a few details sorting but it'll do for now.
  5. Old thread I know, but I finally started my Lowride Pumpkin. I already knew the kit wheels were horrible (they'll change before I go any further) but I was, erm, shocked to discover how cheap the kit shocks are.
  6. Wasn't that implied by the section he posted in ? 'Just Kits' at the bottom of Hessle Road offer an inspection/repair service, even if you didn't buy your car from them. Don't know how good or pricey it is though.
  7. Sorry Tim, I bought the Wheelie one, and the 'mog shell is still awaiting paint. In the short term I put a Lunchbox shell on it ( See Here ). I'm now tempted by one of the other chassis though.
  8. As another Tim with a weakness for Unimogs I thought I'd point out that Tamiya made both a CR-01 Unimog kit (you specified "crawler" in your original post) and a CC-01 one (as shown in John's pic). Very different. Plus a CW-01 Wheelie one too. And both 406 and 425 bodies. Looks like you're going down a different path anyway, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
  9. So, 26 years after I first built a Pumpkin (which I've still got), I've finally got a Lunchbox. Well, it's a Unimog CW-01 kit, but for now it's wearing a Lunchbox shell. I built this 'Fuzzbox' yesterday. Bearings all round, SportTuned motor, Fastrak oil-damped shocks and ProLine tyre foams. 12 LED's plus the roof bar. 5th shock and FX-10 mods still to come, plus remote light switching via Ch.3.
  10. Certainly will - every time you post a pic of your truck online, someone's gonna point it out.
  11. Great stuff. Lunchbox lends itself to all sorts of cool themes. Just finishing mine off now, will post pics when it's finished.
  12. Yeah, there was a chrome sprue for the bumpers, grille and spotlights, and a white one for the mirrors, numberplates and the internal bumper mounts. That roof is the reason why the shell's still not been painted, I don't know where to start...
  13. I wanted a Monte Carlo kit so I could make a replica of our 1:1 Cooper. Couldn't find one at the time, so ended up with the Racing Mini kit instead, where the grille is moulded in and there are no bumpers. Doesn't look right though so I subsequently bought the various trim parts from the Monte Carlo kit and made them fit. Maybe not good enough for a purist but they'll do for me. And yes, it still needs painting...
  14. Good to see that you can easily make it look right. That pre-production photo put an awful lot of people off buying one.
  15. I try and support my last remaining local model shop when I can, I buy all my paint etc. from them and my next kit will probably come from there too (they only keep half a dozen different Tamiya's in stock though they can order them too). Kit prices are only slightly higher than online. They get a lot of people coming in asking for help with cars they've bought online. Bit cheeky innit ? There's a big sign above the counter saying that they'll happily check/test/debug/repair/upgrade your car but there's a charge for it if you didn't buy it from them. Seems fair enough.
  16. Blimey ! Having spent yesterday wiring a large bag-full of LED's onto a police-themed Lunchbox, it looks like I need to order another bag...
  17. I went to the Truck Meet at RCModelShopDirect on Saturday. It would be a good place to sell it, there was more than one driving round with a For Sale sign on it. I think it's on every month or so. I found the trucks fascinating but I'm not sure it's for me.
  18. There's a RC Truck meet at RCModelShop this Saturday, not that far from you. Could be a good place to sell it ? LINK
  19. Only just spotted this thread. Posted pics of my cars elsewhere on here but they probably fit in better here. Here's my Pumpkin that I bought and built back in '89. It still runs, and the lightbulbs (LED's hadn't been invented then...) still work too. My Kyosho RS500 built and bought in '92. It's actually a ZX-Sport underneath rather than the kit Sierra. Still got the Eggenberger decals tucked away. M03 Racing Mini with some Monte Carlo bits added. Built in '02 but still not painted... Here's a WW2 that I bought used last year, stripped and rebuilt it, finished last week. And a KingCab that I also bought last year. Came with the TBG shell, all I've done is tidy it up a little. There's a couple of other old Tamiya cars that I remember from childhood that I still want and I'm working on that.
  20. So, I had a Pumpkin back in 1989, loved it, still got it despite 20+ years away from the hobby. Couple of years ago I spotted the release of the CW-01 Unimog and snapped one up straight away. Realising my RC knowledge was well out of date, I started poking about online, saw all the stuff people were doing with their Lunchboxes and thought I ought to try it with this. So I needed bearings from the word go, a 2.4Ghz Tx/Rx and a servo. And a NiMh battery and charger (LiPo is a stretch too far yet). Might as well put a Sport-Tuned motor in it as well then. Flicking through the instructions revealed an optional driver figure so along came Willy. Then I was tempted by a lighting kit, which led (!) to warning strobes and a receiver switch. A set of Fastrax shocks were next, with the intention of doing the 5th shock mod plus the front strut brace. But then I learned about the FX10 conversion so a package arrived from CRP. After all this, it was bugging me that I'd still never had an actual Lunchbox. So I bought a new LB body kit and alloy mounts. And then I had inspiration on how to paint it, which required white wheels. And so another set of tyres too. So now I've got 2 projects to do with a shared chassis : Lunchmog/Unibox. S'pose I ought to get on with it. But there's a stripped-down WW2 on the bench at the moment...
  21. Nice. Almost had that myself, been watching it. But I haven't started this yet.
  22. Not done any RC stuff for 15 years, getting back into it with a new CW-01 Unimog build with various hop-ups and custom ideas. Also picked up a nice WW2 that I'm gonna strip and rebuild with a theme in mind, and a KingCab that needs a bit of tidying up.
