If you think about a water hose then the download speed equals the amount of water coming out of the hose per second and the ping is the distance between the end of the hose and the tap. A low ping is important for online gaming etc.

Mostly I think it's a good update. After a few days I'm sure people will appreciate the new things and forget about the cosmetic changes. The stuff on the staff side is much better, post reports should be dealt with much quicker now.

It's not the "alternate" ending, it's the real ending. The film made it lame so people wouldn't get confused. The same plot with the original ending is in the films "The Last Man on Earth" and "The Omega Man". Wikipedia summary of the ending:

Bots have already cracked this, face recognition software can be tweaked and applied to simple things like trees etc. Now they're making it harder by obscuring or blurring the image.
