  2. Is this DHL tracking information normal? I would have assumed "The shipment has been delivered from the parcel center to the recipient by simplified company delivery" would mean it's apparently been delivered? Though looking at the tracking it's not even left Germany yet. (Coming to the UK).

Ok then, that sounds good. Cheers guys!

I was getting a little tentative over this delivery. Order placed at tamico on the 11th, two weeks later it's still in Germany. Not sure what the hold up is.

  3. I wish there was a scale scene for touring/rally cars. Scalers are cool but I want a hard body escort with all the scale trimmings!

Escorts vs Chevettes would be nice, maybe a Manta gte thrown in for good measure!

  4. Starting to look like a rally car now? Obviously the shell is not mounted yet btw
  5. February last year I was completely done with RC. Fast forward a year and I have two current build projects, my race buggy is back up and running and I am already looking into my next project. Something with this hobby just wont let me quit

Good you are back and still enjoying it. I find build projects the best. Because reliability is over rated

Nah, my track record is really not that good. I was only junior champion twice because I was the only junior. Last year I went to 4 races and finished 1, just.

  6. I believe the make is Hobby products. Though I can't find any info on this company, where they were based or what become of them. Possibly linked to Kyosho/Graupner based on the similarities to the Kyosho circuit 20, which came a bit later than the wild baja, though that is just a guess. (not my picture, but this is the kyosho version of the car)
  7. Well the car has been packed away for Christmas, so will not be updated for a few days. Only progress I made today was to clean half of the exhaust, which isn't that exciting to be honest In case anyone was wondering, the car did come in the original box, though it didn't fare so well in storage over the years.
  8. Starting to feel a little more like a car again every day.
  9. Yes a little, progress slowed as a part repair was needed. but all is now sorted! One of the four front suspension arm mounts had some damage. It's a solid machined part, and when I tightened it up the thread snapped clean off. Luckily it's a fairly beefy part, so I was able to lathe out and tap a new thread to insert a piece of threaded bar into the stub. Now it's tinted black again I think it will go unnoticed. Once that was sorted I started work on the back plates, only one back on the car for now until the rest is cleaned up Also rear arms ready to go back on Another thing I noticed when working on this car. This thing is looooooong. Definitely longer than my hyper 7, maybe a little narrower though.
  10. So I have a completely seized OS max 25. Possibly been sitting up to 37 years. It looks pretty bad inside, is there any chance to save it? I'm assuming not.

Strip carb off - take out glow plug - strip pull start off

Fill a small Tupperware / container with fresh nitro fuel ( must be big enough to fully immerse engine and have a lid )

Dump engine in overnight, the fresh fuel will help break down the old fuel and crud that's now turned to treacle like glue in the case, further adding to the stuck piston

Take out engine - allow to drop dry for 20 min ( or until nitromethane evaporates, usually takes a few minutes )

Replace pull start, try to pull, is it still jammed?

      If so,

Place engine in vice to hold it

Put a FEW drops of 3in1 oil down the sleeve and carb Venturi

      Heat crankcase , by heating I mean;

By heating I mean get a kitchen /chef blowtorch and concentrate heat on the OUTSIDE of the crankcase, specifically targeting the area where the top of your piston is wedged ( move it round in a ring formation, circling the heat 360° around the case )

(Heating the case this way concentrates heat on the case where the top of the piston is wedged, therefore expanding the case/sleeve where the pistons wedged only )

When approx 30-40 seconds into heating the case, start gently pulling the pullstart to move the piston ( it will help if your attempting to free the piston, by pulling the piston DOWN towards Bottom.Dead.Centre, as the top of the sleeve is the tightest /narrowest point, the bottom is the widest)

If your pulling after 30-40 seconds of heat and it's still jammed then stop pulling and carry on heating for another 40 seconds and try again, repeat as neccaesary.

Once freed, simply rebuild and refit! No need to flush as you've soaked it in fresh fuel

This method was taught to me by an old timer engineer friend, and has helped me free countless engines that others suggested go in the bin.

  11. Great advice yoodoo! I gave it a go and re-assembled the front end, looking 100x better than when I first got the car. Now just that crazy rear end to go
  12. Thinking about replacing my rotary tool with a Dremel, which one do I go for? The router attachment looks interesting, so needs to suitable for my routing needs if possible.

Dremel’s big brother the Bosch GRO rotary tool. The industrial quality version of the Dremel. Downside is it is a lot more expensive but uses battery packs that last hours per charge.

Used to to have an old 300 series Dremel. Primitive but lasted through many years of abuse. The latest ones are a bit fragile in comparison.

    4. dazp1976

      dazp1976

Dremel is the best one I've had.

However there was a bench grinder type thing at Lidl which had a long flexi attachment for rotary tooling that caught my eye not long ago. Might be the way to go if you see that type of machine.

Don't know about routing with a rotary tool, not enough power surely?

  13. Now that is not a bad call yoodoo, I'm sure I have something suitable in the garage. Meanwhile, progress is expectedly slow. Every single part needs cleaning, so as you can imagine I only get through a handful of parts each evening. What comes off the car What goes back on the car A little pitting on these parts, which is a shame, though these have so far only been lightly polished, when all the parts are done I'll have a day at properly polishing them all with a rotary tool and polishing addon.
  14. Honestly I can recommend it! I've never done a restoration before, didn't really plan on this one. But I'm enjoying it way, way more than I thought I would. Maybe the novelty will fade off after a while, but making these old parts shine is keeping me occupied for hours. Small wheel comparison just for fun. Just done the wire wool on the left one, still to polish it. I'm wondering if it may be worth lacquering some of these parts?
  15. Just testing ways to clean this beast up, the chassis rails came out great with some wire wool and a little polishing, now just the rest of the car to do!
  16. The more I work on it the more I love it, some great engineering in it. Spent £130 posted on it, thought it was slightly smaller before it arrived, actually a 1/8 scale as it turns out
  17. Yes, I cant see that it serves much purpose, but I definately want to leave it on there just for the looks! It's a really pretty car, you just have to squint hard enough . On a serious note, what would be my best bet for cleaning this baked on gunk off these metal parts?
  18. So I received this today, apparently found it on Ebay when I was not so sober and decided a small bid wouldn't go amiss. Wasn't sure what it was at the time, it was simply listed as a "Vintage RC car". After a little research it seems I got my self a Texas Wild Baja, a car that later on to become the Kyosho Baja California, with a few alterations. As far as I can tell these were manufactured between 1978-79. Now slightly unsure what I would do with it, I've decided the only that can be done is a restoration to it's former glory. It seems almost completely original, just a shame it's missing the shell :(, though Kyosho Baja California shells can still be bought, so not a huge loss. So here is as it stands today, "fresh" from the box. This has to be my favorite but, engine sticking right out the back of the car Guess now we see how far this can go
  19. Just got a notification saying my Ebay order has been dispatched. Turns out drunk me decided to buy an unknown  "Vintage RC car" on ebay a few days ago. Guess we'll see what turns up .

  20. Does the time I lost my 3ch radio so had to make one count?
  21. I want to make a layshaft for one of my models. It just needs to be a 4mm thick metal bar, with 2 holes for pins to go through. What metal would you recommend?

    1. Oh How Original

      Oh How Original

Probably mild steel rod, should be strong enough for the kind of models you have and on brushed set ups bud.

For the pins, you could try piano wire too, it'll probably be stronger than the stock pins :good:

      mayzie12

Get ground silver steel. Garuntees it is perfectly straight which is needed for spinning shafts!

  22. Yes I would say so. Shimming would definitely help but a fair bit of slop seems to be standard in Tamiya kits.
  23. So a little bit of progress. Though not as much as I'd have liked. The aluminium steering rack arrived. It's a lovely bit of kit, contains all the screws and bearings and tightens up the steering beautifully. Now for the downside. As this is a TT-02, I ordered a set of TT-02 CVD's for it. Unfortunately it seems they don't fit. As this is a type s, it looks like what I really needed was Tamiya TA05 CVD's. So now I'm stick with a set of CVD's I can't use . Oh well. Learn from your mistakes right? . Got to try find some TA05 parts now. Not sure how easy that is going to be.
  24. What's the deal with UKMail? Just tracked my parcel and it says delivery was attempted at 18:56 but there was no one to collect. But there was 4 people in the house at that time, and no card has been put through the letterbox like their site says there should have been.

    1. dazp1976

      dazp1976

I had that too, was updated later to "delayed" however, he turned up 3 hrs later (saw the van outside) then left?!.

Checked the tracking again and it said "no one to collect, left with neighbour" Didn't even bother coming in the gate just dumped it with them as they just happened to be outside by their car. Lazy wotsit!! There is a map so you can see where he was at the time they said "attempted". Turned out he was 3 miles away on the first "attempted"  I did have a rant at them but no response. Don't think they answer emails
