  1. i got the dx5e transmitter about 3 weeks ago with the phoenix rc sim (dx5e comes with it) for planes and choppers, ive been using it with the eflite mcx and msr, pretty sweet transmitter considering theres no model memory, between they 2 choppers all i have had to do is adjust the trim a wee bit http://www.f1hobbies...?id=4311&level= that is pretty much what i got in my lhs but was cheaper the dx5e has made a massive difference to my flying (easier to fly) over the small dsm2 transmitters that came with the helis i mentioned
  2. yeh im also wondering why my 3s overlander softpacks are still fine after sitting there fully charged for months, 48 hours?????? edit: i was worried when i first got lipos partly becuase of people saying store fully charged and they break, nothing more than scare mongering, never mind all the different sized lipos ranging from 1 cell to 2 cells for the helicopters we store them fully charged as well and no problems with a single pack and theres about 20 of them all together.
  3. i have left my softpack 2700mah 3s lipos fully charged for the last 2 months and used one earlier in my thunder tiger xxt i had no problems and it charged fine after wards.

    thunder tigers

im finding my thunder tigers to be pretty well built, even been getting away with using 3s lipos in my xxt and xxb which eats the spur gears but their cheap and my local shop stocks them dads sledge hammer s50 is pretty good as well although he had to wait months for a part to come through before on the plus side parts are pretty cheap if you can get them.
  5. hey guys im seriously thinking of using 2s lipos on my sandviper DT-02 as im fed up with nimh batterys and have been using lipos on a lot of my other cars recently, im really just after more run time, with no power drop off and slightly more power. got a 21 turn brushed purple tiger motor in it at the moment and the stock esc which says 23 turns oops can any one suggest any ideas for a cheap esc that would do the job with a lipo cut off, i think thats all i need unless im forgetting about something or will 2s destroy my little tamiya? just need a cheap speed controller with a lipo cut off for a brushed motor/will consider a brushless motor if it is slow as i just want to use the sand viper in my garden with none of the hassle i get from nimhs i bought a second sand viper kit for spares so have all gears etc spare if 2s turns out to be too much the xxb/xxt/rustler and brushless stinger and durga are all to fast for my garden (garden covered in stones and mentioned cars will break my windows) sandviper is perfect for it but just need a esc for it that has a lipo cutt off gotta be a cheap esc with a lipo cut off and takes brushed motors?

kool cheers for the info on the rage
  7. ive heard of the steering mod but not needed to do it to get doughnuts happening lol awesome wee trucks

    Xtm Rage,

how are you finding the rage? im getting tempted by some in my local shop for use in my garden
  9. dad and i just got one of them each last week and they are pretty good fun we need to order a losi lipo charger but we each tried our lipos we ordered with them for a min just to see what its like and their mad on lipos, even with the supplied nimh battery we can get them doing doughnuts on a smooth floor just keep an eye on the normal nimh battery if your gonna be using the default charger it doesnt cut off when charged, actually been using my battery powered charger from my losi micro crawler on the sc nimh battery. all in all their awesome fun and i think they impressed the guys in my local model shop, dad took his one in and gave them a shot of it lol
  10. nice review i just purchased the even smaller micro one earlier 1/24th scale and im pretty impressed with the quality of it (even has a slipper clutch) and it climbs stuff out the box but could do with a bit extra weight on the front
  11. gotta agree with a lot that nitroholic says.
  12. i would stay away from nimh batterys as they are pretty weak and wont give you the most out of the motors but saying that maybe get one or 2 just to get used to the car first. next step would be lipo batterys your gonna need a charger that costs 40-60 for an ok one lipo batterys are basically bags of chemicals including hydrogen so if they get damaged or charged wrong its a self sustaining fire. 1s lipo 1 sack of chemicals, 2s is 2 and 3s is 3 and each cell/sack has 3.7 volts so 2s lipos are 7.4 volt and 3s are 11.1 volt. http://www.modelspor...on&ItemID=33896 that is the charger i use for my lipos and i always keep them in a lipo sack while storing/charging them its not total necesary but if something goes wrong a lipo sack is a fire proof bag that will contain it cept for the smoke out the 2 cars i suggested 2s lipos are pretty fast with them but im daft and run 3s in them some times, though i have a fan over my esc on the buggy one if you went for either of them you would need to solder deans connecters onto the cars instead of the tamiya style connectors as well. with the cars above i run 3s 2700 mah and 2200 mah 2s i get run times that exceed my nimh 3600 batterys on them eg 15-30 mins depends how much i push the car plus lipo batterys wont lose power they will keep going untill the eletronic speed controller stops them from going to too low a voltage if its set up right while nimh batterys will gradually wear down and get a slower speed plus lipos are far more efficent and brushless motors love that my tamiya sand viper kit i built and whacked in a 21 turn brushed motor with nimhs generates a lot more heat, even melted its tamiya battery conector before than my xxb buggy with 2s could hope to ever generate while the xxb makes my sand viper look like its just sitting there 2s is awesome
  13. yeh forgot about the wee stones on the truck version since the shell and chassis is more open plus its not as fast as the buggy and some how even weighs less. buggy has a 3900kv motor while truggy one has a 3300kv motor their both pretty solid once the wee niggles are sorted out though and both very fast
  14. http://www.modelspor...on&ItemID=34700 or http://www.modelspor...on&ItemID=34680 i have both of them and they are very solid and fast plus spare parts are pretty cheap. will need to thread lock the grub screw on main drive shaft as without thread locking it the shaft ends up coming out and sitting in the chassis, had that happen on both. i run 2s and 3s on them and they can easily burn off a lot of nitros on 3s especially the buggy but theres a risk of knackering the speed controller using 3s and i tend to go through a lot of spur gears but they are cheap and easy to get hold of
  15. cheers for the help guys got some things to think about now
  16. hey guys i built a durga recently but not used it much except to test it, at the moment i have my step up stinger brushless motor and esc in it along with the large pinion gear. im wondering what you guys reckon would be a good motor and esc for it along with any essential hop ups, im waiting on a slipper clutch hop up and belt tensioner, i will probably be using the durga on tarmac out side my house a lot and only on 2s, ill leave my mad 3s tendencys for my xxb and xxt i might also want to get into track racing with the durga at some point. so any advice greatly welcomed heres some pics of it http://www.msuk-foru...w-tamiya-durga/ dad/stormbringer took better pics of it further down the thread
  17. yep i found out about the front diff housing as well im on my second one at the moment, hit a kerb when running 3s lol never thought of the shocks before ill look into the ones you suggested thanks for the help
  18. need a slipper clutch for my durga

  19. hey guys i have an xxb and am happy with the speed i get out the stock esc/motor on both 2s and 3s but im wondering if theres any thing i can do to it to improve it or make it more robust. im bashing with it at the moment but i am thinking about racing it and i dont have a clue about what hop ups to look for edit : im thinking of a moulded wing for it as the flimsy one that came on it is at breaking point, but im not sure what else to go for to increase the already good handling and robustnes, basically happy with its speed but any thing to make it more solid or possibly increase the handling if i do start racing it. pretty impressed with that buggy tbh its took a lot of abuse and out runs almost any nitro with 3s me or dad have cept for the ishima and hyper 7
  20. i got dads savage 3.5 when he got an s50 and my experience is the savage seems to be a lot tougher though a lot harder to work on due to every thing been cramped in so to speak while the s50 is very easy to work on and loads of space. the s50 keeps breaking and thats not even going through mad jumps etc just normal off road driving about same as the savage 3.5. the guy who mentioned the handling been better on the savage is correct as the s50 with its 8.2cc engine seems to love doing wheeleys a bit to much, its fun but not good for the handling all in all i prefer the savage although the s50 is a very good truck as well and will easily smoke my savage about the only upgrade on the savage has been the bullet proof diffs and i hash it about quite a bit edit: the spares for the savage are pricy though while the s50 is about half the price for spares. although dads isnt running at the moment as he is waiting on a new engine mount and i hash about the savage a lot more.
  21. dad and i have brushless stingers they are pretty tough wee trucks although i knackered my drive shafts with 3s lipos but dads one seems to run great on 2s lipos as as has been said spares are a bit thin on the ground and take ages to get once ordered though
  22. welcome and glad your having fun
  23. well i got through a tank of fuel on my ishima with the extronix and had no issues at all, the range seemed good
  24. was a kyosho tourer not sure what model and it had a ford focus shell.
  25. just had a test drive of my new durga earlier using the etronix pulse 2.4ghz, the range seemed good and the binding never messed up, ive fitted a etronix receiver to my ishima rave as well so that will be a good test for the radio gear ill let yous know how it handles the ishima when i run it next which might be tommorrow, if it works decent ill probably fit more receivers in other cars since their pretty cheap
