Orlandoo Hunter 1/32 scale Defender kit

I have seen these quite a few times now, when I have been to the model shows. I was quite impressed by them and their tiny size. Thing that got me was they were being run on a tiny off road course that was built in a suitcase 😲. How cool is that.

Steering and suspension links fitted to axles.
Gearbox built and motor fitted (forgot to take pics of that bit, but all metal geared and ball raced).

Rock sliders, light buckets and front shock towers attached to metal frame rails.

and who even knew you could get servos that small!

Coming along really well :good:

I know its all adding up but to be fair for what your getting at end it seems reasonable to me and is looking to be a cracking wee car

Thanks fella.

To be honest the build is a bit further along than this. I’m just being a bit lazy putting up the pictures.

Bag F

Wheels, tyres and foams.

The tyres seem pretty good tbh and come with foams to put inside too. The wheel weights are extras, as are the little centre hub style wheel nuts. The stock wheenuts look ok, but (I think) the cylinder hub nuts look pretty cool.

I was told by a man on t’interweb that the best set up is no foams at rear, and wheel weights up front. I had planned to experiment with different options but the tyres need to be glued to the rims. They won’t stay on, especially with the foams inside. So I think I’m going to follow the advice I’ve been given for now. Will order some more wheels/tyres to experiment with later.

Fitted the electronics.

Was a bit of a puzzle. It’s a combined esc/receiver and is all quite straightforward EXCEPT, the red female plug attached to the motor doesn’t fit into the socket marked ‘motor’ on the esc, (but it does fit the red plug on the battery?).

Next problem was, the battery plug doesn’t fit into the socket marked battery on the esc(?).
Had me stumped for a little while but when I looked into the bag with the lighting kit, there were two little white plugs for the esc with nothing attached.

So, I cut off the red plug attached to the motor and soldered on one of the little white esc plugs. Then I soldered the other white esc plug to the red female battery plug that had previously been attached to the motor.

Not sure that explanation reads very well, sorry.
Worth noting that NONE OF THIS IS EVEN MENTIONED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS!?

The next problem was that when I ordered my battery, I roughly knew the dimensions of the body shell, so got a battery I thought would fit inside it. Which it sort of does, but as it’s too big to fit in the battery tray I’d have to mount it quite high which would mess up the weight distribution.

It took me a while but I found one on eBay that fits. It’s a 2s lipo but its TINY!!!

Shell painted green with an (off) white roof. Did a pretty shoddy job of the painting, especially the roof, but as it’s all so small, you have to get pretty close to see the mistakes.

Still not 100% complete. A few details on the shell and then take a deep breath before tackling the lights. That’s going to be a super fiddly job and really test my soldering skills… but more of that later.

In the meantime, here’s a little vid of progress so far……

Fitted the indicator/headlight lenses. So bloody small! Dropped this ******* (rear indicator lense) and spent 20 minutes on my hands and knees trying to find it!60A5939D-E3F6-4CA2-BC70-A2F168F90525.thumb.jpeg.6d5299e61e769ea1fb9b2fa5d5ddc04c.jpeg

Re the sound. I reckon I’ll get over the novelty soon enough, but there’s a volume knob on the tx! 😋👍

Find myself putting off wiring up the lights…..

Look at it, this is the “full lighting kit” 2C403553-06AC-48AA-8133-0351D190822D.thumb.jpeg.e62d00a54f7249b19b7177d5b33f3b8b.jpeg

and the sum total of the instructions that came with it.8421BB23-6346-4858-8753-15BFB2163F4D.thumb.jpeg.4d09ff2aac59220197f62a4031558257.jpegThose wires are .4mm thick….or thin depending on your perspective.

The big LEDs should be easy (Big? 5mm LEDs are big?!) but the little LEDs are really going to test my soldering skills.
