Oh How Original
So after doing quite a bit of searching around I finally dropped on this little beauty, bone stock at the moment but probably won't be for very long. Already got the Losi conversion ordered but they took 7 days to even despatch it, so it's took longer than expected. I've got a HW 2000kv motor and HW 150a ESC and Alturn 966 to go in it once the conversion kit arrives, not used on Alturn on this scale before so I'll be interested to see how it performs, if it's not up to much, I'll just buy a Savox 1256 or 1267. Already fitted a front bumper and tomorrow I'll be making a skid plate for the rear, ignore the rear shock tower, I bought the 1.0 by mistake and the body mounts don't fit, so I've bought a new pair of 2.0 black towers (
Oh How Original
Fitted some new shock towers on the 8ight T, also stuck some 12Deg alloy caster blocks on it as well Finally looking like a truggy again rather than a pile of parts. Wish the BL conversion kit would hurry up though!
Oh How Original
Ohhhhh yes! Test time tomorrow if it doesn't rain. Definitely tempted to buy a new 2s and 3s and have the odd 5s bash as well. I know the ESC can handle it, motor should as well (2000kv)
cyronn
Nice I had that Xerun 2000kv motor in when I first converted my 8T in 2011 good motor, what fluids you are running ? I found for bashing diff 30 30 10 works the best with 45wt shock all round with the purple spring on the rear. There is a weak spot in the rear bulk head where the the rear shock tower screws in on the lower screw from a rear bad landing but other than that its a tank. All the info what I have done to mine is on Everything is 8ight T thread. Plus with loads of tips etc. Edited July 13, 2014 by cyronn
Bigjimknickers
Nice! I have that motor too its OK on 6s even! Its been in my Savage flux on 4s 5s & 6s now its in my D8te & its always on 5s, doesn't even sweat!
jony nitro
Every Truggy deserves 5s as standard
Oh How Original
Cheers lads... I'm going to test it on 4s just because I have them sat here... I've also got $33 on HobbyKing in store credit, so I might just buy the LiPos and it'll only really cost me a 3s, the 2s should be free. Thanks for the tip Cyron I'll keep an eye on it, I'm not 100% sure what the current set-up is as it's still whatever the previous owner was running, the shocks feel good though and the diffs don't grind or anything, so just going to leave them be for the minute and see how I enjoy it. Oh How Original
Done some testing on it and I've run into a little problem, well more of a niggle. I've got an Alturn 966 in it at the moment and for some reason it will only hit full lock going right when it's going very very slowly (like coming to a stop) if I'm moving it along at anything over just touching the throttle, the turning circle to the right is mahoosive (barely makes a U turn on my street).. Now turning left is absolutely sweet, just not right. I've double checked the set up and horn and everything, but no joy, I also checked the end points which when it's off the ground, turn the wheels to full lock, I've also checked things like binding on the horn which their isn't any, I've checked all around the steering set up for any binding and can't see anything at all... The servo has 23.9kg at 0.16, so it's definitely powerful enough, I also got the servo off AJ, so I trust that it is 100% working, therefore must be my set up somewhere. Just looking for some suggestions of something I may have overlooked?
.AJ.
Strange, I would check the servo saver is locked up completely, the last time I ran that servo was in my 8T and it worked fine, if it carries on causing problems fire me over a pm and we will get something sorted
Oh How Original
I don't expect anything from you mate, wasn't bad mouthing you or anything like that, the servo is turning when the truggy is off the ground so I know it's not that... I thought of the servo saver, but wasn't sure if it could only cause a problem in one steering direction... I will strip it back down and have another look, it doesn't help when their is a little bit of slop in my steering bodge, the bolt I had was a bit too thick for the servo turnbuckle ball hole thingy, so had to improvise
Oh How Original
Check the servo saver, it was wound right down so I wound it up... It's not helped at all lol. Bloody irritating this! I've just double checked all the turnbuckles and everything for binding and theirs none at all :/
mydoddy69
Swap the servo out from the buggy you got just to eliminate it then work back from the horn to the wheels you say you bodged a hole could it be your bodge is catching ?? i know it sounds silly but have you checked the steering trims are at zero on your tx ?? Have you checked all the links are the same length for both sides, does the servo scream like its under strain ?? Instead of checking it with the front end of the bench check it when the front end is under load ie all for wheels on the bench.. Think you could do with some better or longer shock springs they look at there max preload !
Oh How Original
It's all sorted now, sorry I thought I'd updated this lol. I think it was a combination of loose servo saver, dodgy horn and bad toe. Got it all set-up straight and true now and it runs fine. And yeah they are, I want the purple ones, but finding them is impossible! I'm going to see how it runs first because it actually doesn't bottom out very easily, if needs be I'll put some slightly thicker oil in the shocks with some fresh o rings and pistons while I'm at it, that should sort any problems. Having only run it on the street though, I've not had a chance to jump it, so no idea how it'll react on landing.
Oh How Original
Had the 8ight-T out today for a good bash in the quarry, definitely loves a good jump this thing. Put nearly 2 full packs through it, including speed runs (hit 39mph, not amazing but it did have a wee bit more to go as the GPS takes a second or two to catch up) it was also really hot here today, the ESC was at 98F, the motor was at 118F and the LiPos where at 102F. The LiPos felt hotter, but I'm guessing that's simply because I'm not used to them feeling warm at all. Can anyone just confirm those temps are all good? I know the ESC and motor are spot on, just mainly the LiPos... What's a safe running temp? It was very very hot today though, hottest day we've had while living here anyway, been here over 7 years, my mates car temp guage clocked it at 37C lol, ridiculous! .AJ.
Glad to see you got the steering issue sorted, the perfect spring set up is White on the front and Purple on the back, I wouldn't run Purples on the front, they will be too stiff, you want a good weight shift under braking to help steering, add a bit of toe out on the front as well and she will turn on a dime

Being shorter springs though I can't imagine it will go too firm. Also on a slightly different note, can somebody please recommend a good alloy servo horn? (25t) because I've been using AnswerRC ones and they just don't seem to sit happy at all on this Alturn 966, I've also just bought a Savox 1283, which was destined for some kind of crawler set-up, but I may put the 966 into whatever crawler I buy, if I buy one that is and stick the 1283 into the truggy. Excellent, thanks Dazza I've never been too sure and they've only ever been just to say warm to the touch, these felt a little bit hotter but did a temp check on them at their hottest feeling point and they definitely weren't 140 lol. Oh How Original
Right I'd like some advice please. I've put the purple springs on the rear and it still hasn't had the desired effect. I've put the silver ones on the front and it has. I want to try and eliminate it bottoming out so easily, the problem is the rear only returns to about half way up after landing, I've got the purple springs on set right to the bottom, I've just rebuilt the shocks with 50wt oil and set the pistons all the way down, they're still compressing too easily though, I believe the pistons are 54's (4 holes)... What else can I do to make the shocks fully extend, or at least as close to fully extended as possible?

Oh How Original
Had a good blast out today with the 8ight-Te, finally managed to break something, very hard rear landing and broke a shock eyelet thingy, thankfully I have about 20 of them so just needs replacing and she's good to go. mydoddy69
So you not had this a month and it's in the sales I thought from your status updates this thing was the nuts? Yet a month in and up for sale ? . Have the little niggles put you off it that much ?
Oh How Original
So you not had this a month and it's in the sales I thought from your status updates this thing was the nuts? Yet a month in and up for sale ? . Have the little niggles put you off it that much ? Theirs been no niggles at all? Speed just isn't doing it for me again at the moment, so I'm going with something slower The truggy runs great and is a great piece of kit. I just want something different, that being said, if it doesn't sell, I'm really not bothered, I will keep it and just store it for a month or two until I get the buzz back for speed. I started getting a bit bored of going back and forward with the buggy. I suppose I could do with a few different places to go, so I don't get as bored as fast, after two packs I'm ready for home... But hey ho Edited August 6, 2014 by Oh How Original
mydoddy69
Sorry I thought you had a niggle with the servo or steering (post 8) and then with it bottoming out and shocks few post back? That's what I was referring too .

That's what I was referring too . Not really things that would put me off an RC... Just very simple things that needed sorting... And they now are The bottoming out is a very common thing with these which is why they need (and this got) purple springs fitting. I may take it off sale in the next couple of days as I'm still unsure to be honest, I know I'll eventually want something similar sometime down the line, so might just store it for a while.
