airfilter base to carb gasket

collective itch

Is the part of the air-filter going onto the 'base plate' made of rubber or metal?

If its rubber, that should be fine as you've mentioned, but if there is a 'metal-metal interface' it should have a gasket in-between (Some air-filters have an alloy casting / turning into which is inserted the filter).

the base plate is plastic, its the one that comes standard on the baja 5b

i tried reassembling without the spacer between the airfilter and carb, but the carb wouldn't tighten properly as the bolts fouled the cylinder head and went to far without the spacer.

i assembled it with the metal spacer in place, and a gasket either side, and the engine fired up fine.

this is what the spacer looks like, but is made of aluminuim

hope this makes sense?
