collective itch
reassembling my fg using a new carb and a hpi airfilter. bit confused as to what goes between the airfilter base plate, the piece with the two brass inserts, and the carb. i take it the metal spacer thats about 3-4 mm thick, does this need a gasket either side of it as well? Nitroholic
ever had anything but a gasket between air filter and carb. If there is a metal piece between the two, then it needs somethign to seal it both sides.
collective itch
thanks nitroholic, so it goes airfilter base plate, gasket, carb?
atom3624
Is the part of the air-filter going onto the 'base plate' made of rubber or metal? If its rubber, that should be fine as you've mentioned, but if there is a 'metal-metal interface' it should have a gasket in-between (Some air-filters have an alloy casting / turning into which is inserted the filter). collective itch
the base plate is plastic, its the one that comes standard on the baja 5b i tried reassembling without the spacer between the airfilter and carb, but the carb wouldn't tighten properly as the bolts fouled the cylinder head and went to far without the spacer. i assembled it with the metal spacer in place, and a gasket either side, and the engine fired up fine. this is what the spacer looks like, but is made of aluminuim http://www.rcracingtwente.nl/DDM-Carburetor-Spacer hope this makes sense? atom3624
I'll leave a reply for people who've used it. It looks fine to me, but I've never used one of those. Al.
norney hurtmore
i have it on my MCD. the plate should have a gasket fitted both sides when new. If yours hasn't either use gaskets or a good quality sealant
