RC 'drift' Project....

Smelly

Recommended Posts

Hey people of MSUK!

I am going to start a drift project!

First thing i went and got my self was a shell... dont ask why but i just wanted to go and get that part out of the way, well infact i got the shell tonight and paint and began straight away!

Need to put the decals on it, and get the wing, mirrors and other parts on it!

The wheels will be here soon, along with the Chassis, esc, motor, servo and other parts!

The chassis will have a 'counter steer' mod on it, (over driving the rear end)

The shell is a HPI  Lexus IS F racing concept body, from MMR!

The project will take a little time, but im sure it will work out great!  Also as im doing the project i will suggest a few things along the way!

Such as 'set-up' choice of motor, esc and servo! even the tyres...

Make sure to follow this Topic for the 'Drift Project 2013'!!!

- Shell painted up... waiting on decals and wing, mirrors and other parts!

Welcome to the insane world of drifting.

I would have made the holes for the body posts first but without the chassis, does make it quite hard. Out of interest, what chassis are you going for? Same with the cs, what ratio are you looking at?

Another up date!

Chassis time, i bought the chassis 2nd hand and needs a few bits doing to it!!!!

Well i say a few, i mean a full rebuild with new bearings, hubs, shock bottoms springs, oil and other bits!

But im sure i can get some of the parts over time and get using the girl!

Here is a picture of the chassis as i got it!

So yeah she is in a bit of a mess at the moment... Im sure things will change fast!

Next is a picture of the counter steer mod! this was on the car as i bought it, like i have said i have not touched it! the way it has been done is by using a servo horn and a arial mount! :o using the old pully!!! Ill get something a little better made up right away!

So this is what i have so far!

Im sure things will change very fast, get some new parts soon and get using it!

Make sure to post what you think i should be doing next! and keep your eyes out on this topic!!!

That looks more like just a belt tensioner. Are you trying to say that you have fitted a larger pulley for the rear/smaller pulley for the front then used a tensioner?

As for the ESC, I would advise on mounting that as far forward as the servo. Looks like it could have a lot of weight at the rear.

That is what i was thinking.... it just seems to make the belt stronger...

It dose have a one way bearing in the center pully too!

And yes, my plan is to get the esc on the servo!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Kirk! ;)

Yeah that's just a tensioner, was needed after fitting the smaller pulley for countersteer. We just used bits we had lying around to make a tensioner rather than trying to source a shorter belt, which would have been guess work anyway. The pulley with the one way bearing is actually from a Cyclone and needed some modding (and swearing) to make it fit on the TCX ;)

That chassis drifts lovely BTW :)

Hehe, thanks, the car has been set up to drift, in theory the front is wider with more negative camber, but the rear is a little more stood up right, along with softer springs at the front and harder at the rear!
