Hiya all, My first post here so I hope I've done this correctly. I bought this second-hand SCX10ii at the start of last year to give RC crawling a go. I have really enjoyed crawling, trailing and tinkering. Learnt a lot from breaking things, not many original parts left. Built to match a Hotwheels. Parts list: -Proline BF Goodrick KM3s in G8 compound -Injora Beadlock Wheels -Injora Front Bumper -Injora Roof Rack + Light Bar -Injora Inner Fenders -Injora Cherokee XJ Hard Body -Injora Brass Steering Knuckles -Injora Brass Diff Covers -Injora Interior -Custom Number Plates (Found on eBay, wanted matching plates with my real XJ) -Han Solo (Because I couldn't find Indiana Jones.) -90mm Desert Lizard 2 Stage Internal Spring Dampeners (I bought this rig second-hand on eBay, rear shocks had been replaced with ridiculous ones. I wanted a matching set all around and something I could run a droop setup with.) -Hobbywing QuicRun Fusion FOC 1800kv (Drowned the stock motor with excessive dips in rivers and the sea, was recommended this upgrade by a friend.) -Savox - SW0231MG+ (I bought this servo when I killed the stock one. However this servo never worked properly for me, it was somehow causing full throttle blips and I could never work out why. I have been running a stock TRX4 servo for the time being, do not recommend it at all as it struggles to even turn on grass.) -Injora High Voltage Waterproof 30kg Digital Servo (I have ordered this but not yet fitted, have tried the larger 35kg in another build and have been impressed. I would have bought the same but none were in stock at the time, I might swap them around as this is the heavier of the 2 rigs.) -Zeee 5200mah 2s LiPo Batteries x3 (I was running it with a 3250mah battery that came with it for the longest time, struggled to last an hour.) Comments and Questions: -I wanted this rig to look reasonably scale but not give up too much crawling performance. I thought putting a hard body on would ruin this but was pleasantly surprised to find it very capable, if not more than it was with a lexan body. Always looking for more upgrade recommendations. -I originally tried mounting the hard body hinged at the back with 4 magnets at the front, but this didn't hold up well to the thrashing it took on the trail. Was getting frustrated with the body being pulled off by foliage so swapped it to a very jank clipping system that I cobbled together, can show more on this if anyone is interested. -The wing mirrors on hard body took some heavy hits and snapped off fairly quickly. I found drilling a hole through the body and screwing a bolt with some small o-rings into the mirrors worked to re-attach them. It also seems to provide some shock absorption to direct impacts, as they haven't come off again yet. -Bigger batteries have helped improve runtime, but this rigs efficiency seems terrible compared to my friend's TRX4. Both run the same batteries, the same Hobbywing QuicRun and are geared similarly. I reckon mine lasts about an hour and a half whereas his will go nearly double that. -This is run on stoney beaches most of the time and the links underneath have taken a beating, had to bend them back by standing on them or with pliers. Any recommendations for upgraded ones would be appreciated, higher clearance ones might help their longevity. -The hard body has also seen better days as I don't go easy on it, chips in the paint have exposed the white plastic beneath. I want to try weathering it with brown paint to cover this up, am looking for any tips or examples of this being done on a well used rig. Thanks all for your time 🙂 Cheers, Al.

I've had my tamiya cc01 for quite a while now and it's been one of my favourite RCs but I thought it was time for an upgrade. After a bit of research I decided on the SCX10ii raw builders kit. (excuse my manky feet, didn't realise they were still in shot). I quickly realised that power tools would be needed for this. These long hex screws are a nightmare compared to the little tamiya screws I'm more used to. It's coming together but the instructions aren't as clear and easy to follow as tamiya instructions (sorry, no more tamiya comparisons), I had to study each step and take it a lot more time over it. I stole the electronics out the CC01 to get me started. That's an 80t motor, turned out to be a lot slower than it runs in the CC01. Gearbox built. Done. Wheels stolen from CC01 to get me moving though they look a bit small on this chassis. The 80t motor was just a temp thing to get moving. I soon realised that I would need something different. I found out about 5 pole motors from another thread on here and heard a lot of good things about Holmes hobbies, however I like to spent a bit less. I went for a Hobbywing 1080 esc and an SMD Surpass 16t 5 pole motor. On 3s this maxes out at 7.4kph and on 2s is still plenty fast enough for me. The savox servo seems to have plenty power for this so that's staying. I had my eye on the Range Rover and Toyota hard bodies but at around £100 each it seemed like a lot for something I'd just to smash. Maybe I'll get something like that eventually. For now I just wanted a body to run and not worry about rollovers and crashing. I went for the Proline Rock Van. Wheels seemed to be quite expensive. Everything I was looking at was £25+ per pair, plus tyres and you're soon spending £150+ one wheels and tyres. To save a few quid here I bought a set of Fastrax heavy weight aluminium beadlock wheels, these came as a set of 4 (why do wheels always come in pairs??) for about £30. Tyres are going to make more difference to performance that pretty much anything else, my research led me to the Proline Krawlers. I went for the smaller size as I thought these would sit under the van body better. I'm a bit impatient and wanted to give the motor a good test so I took the chassis out for a drive. I'm really quite impressed with this motor. Loads of torque at low speed. This is so much bigger and more capable than my CC01. Time to get on with the body, I hate masking and it turns out masking hates me. I didn't do a particularly good job with the masking but it's good enough for me. It looks great from a distance. First colour on then into the paint drying cupboard over night. Those pipes are for the underfloor heating so it's really warm in there, perfect for drying paint. I found a friend with a 3d printer and they printed off the wing for me, Proline provide .stl files for a few extra parts for the van and the wing fitted in perfectly with the A Team design I planned. All done for now. I'd like to add bull bar and maybe some lights. First off though, I need to get it out and get some decent action photos.

I’m hoping this is the right forum thread to post this. I’ve had a nice response to my “hello” thread and a couple of people have suggested I do a build thread...so here goes. Be gentle, this is my first attempt at a build thread and my first foray into an RC build. Personally, I think building is more interesting than an RTR. So here’s the kit box and some sprues from bag 1. I’m going to run stock for now - although I’ve already been drawn to all the shiny upgrade parts - and if anything breaks or wears out, I’ll upgrade to whatever I’m drawn to online. SSD look like they do very nice stuff for this chassis. One of the reasons I chose this particular one was the myriad of upgrades available from lots of different companies. Also, does anyone have any experience of purchasing parts direct from the Far East? I’ve found a lot of offerings from a lot of manufacturers on Aliexpress. I also picked up the nice Fastrax tool set from Modelsport. I’m starting from scratch, so it’s nice to invest in some decent gear that’ll hopefully last a while. Does anyone recommend using shock pliers btw? The shocks on this kit are plastic, but if I go down the aluminium shock upgrade path in the future, will they be a good tool to have?

Decided to sell my newly built SCX10 ii due to just not being able to find the time to give it the use it deserves (between MTB, PC gaming and full time work).
