  1. Carbon tubing turned up today along with more bills...think I should turn the bills into something...maybe ash? 😬 By the way @Fuzzock, did you know you won the latest gold member prize? πŸ˜„
  2. @Fuzzock Could potentially spray with a rust protective paint? Rustoleum? Just an idea, not sure how it'd work.
  3. I got these. They're a direct fit/replacement so no issues with fitment or anything. I see there's a canny few now coming out on Modelsport, RW Racing ones, etc. 0.6 Module 0.6M 64T 64 Teeth Tooth Metal Gear EP 1/10 Black 9mm Wide 11184 5055681318178 | eBay L619B Module 0.6 0.6M 19T 19 Teeth Tooth Motor Pinion Gear Black 540 5mm Bore 5055681359928 | eBay Haha punny! Love a good pun joke Yeah was a blast. A bit annoying at first just because I haven't got the time to fix them and mess about with them as much as I'd like. Think that might become more prevalent though. Wife taking up a second job with a view for a career change so will have more time to tinker.
  4. So, as I said before I took ours out at the weekend and had some fun. There's quite a bit of a difference in speed for the metal spur and pinon change I have to say. Think it's only about 4 mph, but you can really tell when you're blasting around a large field. Still had fun though! Didn't do anything major as didn't want to break anything this time (still managed to break my rear wing mount though πŸ˜„πŸ˜ž) , but it was the first run in regards to the shock oil, 500 cSt is a bit soft on the stock springs still if you're doing jumps I think as it'll bottom out. However, the Quantum + springs and 500 cSt seemed to be more or less perfect for me. Think you may still bottom out a bit, but works alright for me for now. Have to say, we had a "wheelie" good time πŸ˜… https://i.imgur.com/UabPkhO.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/ngUjzcu.mp4 The Quantums! 🦾 Playing in the mud Zoom! 😁 Where's the XT?! πŸ˜„ All back home in more or less one piece with minor repairs to make. Just need to clean them up nicely now πŸ˜„
  5. Some bills, and some wall plugs which will be used for the braces I make when the carbon tubing turns up πŸ˜„ the wall plugs that is, not the bills πŸ˜„
  6. For anyone running XT or Pluses, be careful with running the rear wing. @tomr alludes to this problem. But basically the rear wings are fragile, and if that doesn't break, then it will be the rear wing mount, and if not that, then the diff housing (which are like gold dust at the moment!) I snapped the wing mount on mine over the weekend. Runs fine without it, just looks slightly odd.
  7. Well, it's been a while since I've update. Been busy with work. Anyways fixed up the XT again. XT: Replaced the suspension arms again, but swapped them both for the new "upgraded" set from Maverick as the Metsafli still hadn't arrived. Also fit the little aluminium body posts. Very tight, but they do fit. Not overly sure if it's a good idea on fitting these yet as the force will just transfer to other parts of the truck (like the diff housings that are currently hard to find). Whilst I was at it, I figured I'd rip the car apart and do the upgrades I was wanting to do. Helps that I had to bend one shock shaft back into place until the new HD ones turned up. Anyway, replaced the shock oil with some 500 cSt. The stock oil is super thick! Couldn't believe it to be honest, no wonder the cars have no rebound. As my new maintenance stand hadn't arrived, I improvised. Rear wing on the XT makes a decent shock building area πŸ˜„ Got them set and rebuilt them and threw on the Quantum+ springs. Much nicer and the car has a decent rebound now. Think the stock springs would be OK, but I think it would bottom out on a decent jump. Replaced the rear turnbuckles as I managed to bend one. Found these on eBay. Got 8 sets for a decent price and got them more or less next day. Seem to be fairly beefy. Had to add a small nut though to push the turnbuckle off the rear shocks. Quite a bit of play in the pivot ball area though sadly. Also tore the front and rear diffs out and added some oil. There's hardly anything in these, just a bit of blue gunk. 50k front and 30k on the rear. So got it all done and put back together and wanted to test it. So took it out to the front street and ran it around. Seems very quick over the tarmac mind, but the grip on the tyres is horrendous in my opinon! Anyway, I managed to flipped it on the road and it hit a curb. Seemed alright actually! Was a bit surprised, but then it started grinding horribly on accelerating and braking. Stopped running it, as I was planning to go out the following day with my son and his MT. We ended up going out the next day and I managed to move the XT about 10 foot with the grinding before it just stopped and didn't move. Assumed it was the spur gear, as you could hear it spinning, but nothing. Oh well, back into the bay for repairs. Didn't put a downer on us though. We still managed to have a blast with the little lad'sMT. He wasn't impressed at the RWD as it was a bit difficult for him to control. Explain what it was to him and how he had to take it a bit slower around corners and when going from a stop as it was just "squirrely." Eventually he got the knack of it and we managed to give it a really good bash about. After 4 LiPos through it we lost a few body pins and broke a body post mounting pillar. Nothing too major. Thought it was the diff. housing at first. Anyway, back in the repair bay, both of the trucks. They both sat for a few weeks until repairs were made. In the mean time, my Metsafil arms turned up, as well as my lovely little Fastrax maintenance stand (wish it had a lock on it though to stop spinning if you push it, otherwise it's excellent). XT: Pulled the spur gear out and replaced with the metal 64T 0.6 mod and replaced the pinon as well with a 19T 0.6 mod. That was fun as I ended up snapping my 1.5 hex in the grub screw when I went to tighten the grub screw down onto the motor shaft...so I had to fight to get the bits out. Used a cigar lighter to heat it up and loads of WD40. Was a right pain, but I eventually got it sorted. Everything nearly went through the window πŸ˜„ At any rate, both pinion and spur sit perfectly, not modifications needed. Used the old piece of paper trick I saw on a YouTube video (think it was on one of the original post ones actually). Think these pinion and spur are slightly dfferent from the 48T and 17T (I think, forgot to count it) originals. Found this little calculator here RC Gear Ratio Calculator (sodialed.com) and it says the pinion and spur is a 19% increase so it should have a bit more acceleration and torque whilst also putting less strain on the motor. The top speed of the original was fun before, but I think for the way we drive this will be more fun. Hard to see, but the gear is worn quite a bit, some of the fins are flattened into others. Metal spur gear and pinion fit. Remeshed it so the pinion sat on the spur a bit better πŸ™‚ MT: Well, started off with going to replace the front diff as I thought that was the main reason why we lost FWD. So I pulled that out to have a look at it. Looked ok and actually turned fine as well. So I filled it up with the diff fluid (50k for front) and gave it a quick test. Still no FWD and it was all connected up fine. Strange. Anyway, further investigation it turned out the diff was fine and it was actually the center drive shaft that lost a pin on the rear and also slightly bent the center cup that connects to the rear diff. So, I replaced both the center drive shaft and cup set with new ones. Of course, I then figured I may as well put the rear diff fluid in as well, so I pulled the rear diff off and tore it apart and stuck somet fluid in it (30k in rear). I replaced the body post mount when I had it out as I thought it was the diff box housing originally. Nice easy fix . However, when I was doing the diff I noticed that the pinion was super loose! It was literally sliding back and forth on the motor shaft. No idea how the spur didn't end up getting stripped. Grub screw worked it's way loose, so I figured I'd just whip the pinion and spur off and replace it with the same metal ones I did on the XT. All set. Finally, I replaced replacing the body post mount. I thought it was the diff box housing originally, so was a fairly easy fix. Decided to leave the turnbuckles until they went and then I can replace them with the same aluminium ones I have on the XT. Center cup! Look where the pin bent the steel! Probably will still work, but replaced anyway. Missing pin from center drive shaft. Can this be replaced? All set for a non-rainy day to go out for a session of fun. Of course, the HD shocks turned up as well, but I'll just wait to replace them when I stick the Metsafli arms on. Speaking of Metsafli, I noticed they're also producing HD rear turnbuckles and a center cup set. Might invest. In the meantime, I've ordered some carbon tube to make a brace across the middle of both cars. Just some 8mm diameter, 6mm internal diameter tubing and a few wall plugs so I can stick a bolt in them. Should be lightweight and vastly improve the durability of the car. Going to look into 3D printing a few custom roof rails once the printer is setup and going. Here's the link for the carbon fiber tube if anyone's interested πŸ™‚ Matte 3k Carbon Fiber Tube Length 1000mm All sizes OD From 8mm to 40mm Twill | eBay
  8. Nothing overly special today. Just a replacement tip for my 1.5 hex driver. πŸ™‚
  9. HD shocks for the Quantum Flux, suspension shim set, some Modelsport stickers, a replacement rear turnbuckle and a new metal extruder for the 3D printer πŸ˜„
  10. All them little dot stickers must of took you ages mate!
  11. Snapped the hex on the 1.5 driver on the pinion grub screw. That was fun to get out...changed to a metal spur gear and pinion on the XT, went for a 64T and 19T compared to the original of I think 48 and 13? It was stripped so it needed done. Went to replace front diff on the MT as I lost FWD on it. Pulled it apart, put 50k diff oil in it, replaced it, tested it. Still no FWD. Further investigation lead to rear diff being pulled off, noticed the centre drive shaft had a pin missing from the rear diff cup side and the rear diff cup was damaged (bent where the pin should have been). so replaced them both. Noticed the pinion gear was mega loose on the MT. Grub screw somehow managed it's way loose, so figured I'd pull it and replace the spur and pinion with the metal ones, same as the XT. No idea how the spur gear survived with the pinion literally moving up and down the motor freely. Whilst I was at that I pulled the rear diff and filled that with 30k oil. Stuck it all back together and boom! All working as intended. Noticed the MT had a bent shock, so pulled them all and decided to rebuild the shocks with thinner oil; 500 cSt. Currently sitting half assembled. Also going to order another set of Quantum Flux + springs, along with some additional pivot balls as I don't have any of those. Shocks might be a bit soft, so will adjust the spring rates on them until the new springs come. Then finally replaced the snapped body post mount on the MT as well. Just waiting till after work to finish rebuild the shocks and stick it all back together. Think the rear axles were ever-so-slightly bent, and had a few HD ones so stuck them on. Also I think one of the front axles is slightly bent as well so will replace them as I've got another set of HD ones. Going to throw another shim on the axles as well if I can. Also re-calibrated the ESC for the MT as it had lost reverse and only worked intermittently. That works fine now as well. Think that's everything. All-in-all, I was on it for about 4/5 hours...wife was not overly impressed as I didn't get into bed until 1:30 πŸ˜„
  12. Well, I finally got around to carrying out the repairs on the trucks. Don't think my wife was overly impressed...was on them for about 5 hours until early this morning haha XT - spur gear switched to 64T 0.6 mod spur and 19T 0.6 mod pinion. That was...fun...I ended up snapping the hex on the grub screw on the pinion so that sucked. Took me ages to get it off (heat...heat....some WD-40...brute force), but it's done. Think I got a nice mesh on it now. XT completely finished for now. MT - Reset the ESC as we lost the option to go in reverse every once in a while. Works fine now. Also stripped it down to replace the front diff as I thought that had went, turns out it was fine...it was the centre drive shaft that a pin came out of so it as just spinning and not turning. The little drive cup was also bent where the previous pin was out. So ended up replacing that with new ones for each. While I was at it, I switched the diff oils and out 30k rear and 50k front for the little lad and tore apart the shocks to fill it with 500 cSt. Lef them overnight so have to finish rebuilding them today and stick it back together. Think it maybe a bit soft, so I think I'll turn the little part on the shocks to firm the springs up a bit more. I replaced the body post tower as that snapped, and replaced all the axles with HD ones. I think the rear ones were ever so slightly bent, so figured I may as well when it was stripped. EDIT: another note, be careful with that pinion grub screw. I changed the spur and pinion gear on the MT as well as the MT's pinion was MEGA loose. I mean, how it didn't strip the spur gear I'll never know.
  13. I know right! To be fair though, I ordered that over a month ago...I only ordered the printer on Tuesday πŸ˜„ Might make another stand though for the other truck πŸ˜„ πŸ™‚
  14. I am very tempted to try these on the quantum. Not sure how well they'd work though. Be interesting to know what you think of them!
  15. A new 3D printer 😬😊 and then my Fastrax maintainer stand and Metsafli suspension arms 😬😊
  16. I just put a dab on the screw threads and screwed it in. Job done, never had any problems
  17. Haha so it is!didn’t look that closely at it. My mistake. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜Š
  18. Yeah, that little grub screw can really be a problem. It was one of the things I did straight away; throwing some loctite on it. Both my cars sitting waiting to be fixed. I need some time, but I'm slammed with work at the moment. Working late tonight to try and get caught up a bit 😞 Anyways, got about £200 to blow, so thinking about grabbing myself a 3D printer...or do I invest it in some crypto....hmmmm
  19. Really like that orange Ford body! Looks the business!
  20. Should have just said a bit of elbow grease, you would of had me going for hours before I twigged πŸ˜‚
  21. That's stunning. What do you use to clean them? I've got some GT85 (and WD40) and a soft toothbrush, but not sure how to set about to be honest. Mine are a bit dusty πŸ˜„
  22. It's on one of the pages near where you just got that quote from. There's a link to someone's Dropbox with it shortly after. EDIT: *page 11, @paul_111kindly provided a Dropbox link* The suspension arms from stock aren't that great. I tested the 3D printed v3 above and it seemed alright. Took a bit of a beating until it eventually snapped in the same location as the stock ones after some larger hits. Might need to make some adjustments to it. Think @Loboomade some other improvements like changing infill to 100% on the connection points and dropped material elsewhere. Check page 20 for his (or hers) latest design. No stl file on that though.
  23. Haha yeah, we went out yesterday, and it was a little bit went. My son's is RWD only at the moment so I need to fix the front diff on that. That made it a bit difficult to control for him, but he eventually got it. He managed to snap a rear body post mount, the one that goes onto the diff housing and that was it. My XT had a tumble on some pavement after a quick test (which by the way, I think the tyres aren't that great for tarmac!), and made some nasty sounds. Left it as it was still running so took it out along with the MT and managed to get about 2 ft before it stopped dead. Spur gear stripped I'm guessing. 100% has some faults, but it's a cheap intro into RCs and not a bad little car, especially if you get the upgraded arms and HD parts with them straight away now as well. I;d still buy another.
  24. Haha, was only a matter of time. Is it the new arms or the old style? My son's MT still hasn't snapped one yet, but my XT has snapped 1 old style and 1 3D printed one. Had them out yesterday, mine didn't move (stripped the spur gear I think πŸ˜…) but my son's had a decent bash about. Snapped a body post and a diff gear mount that the body post connects onto. Might have bent an axle, not sure yet have to strip them down and look into it. Luckily mine's all sorted except for the spur and pinon and I have metal ones πŸ˜„
  25. Yeah mate, they’re fit. It was a tight squeeze though to be honest, but they fit OK. Haven’t ran it since yet. Hoping to get out today
