  1. Had a quick search and there's a thread about an FTX motor upgrade which may help. To be honest though I just risked it and bought a Surpass from eBay for my 1/18 and it's brilliant. Maybe something like this would work just as well for the 1/10 FTX https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Surpass-Hobby-F540-3300KV-4370KV-Brushless-Motor-ESC-Set-For-1-10-RC-Car-Model/383542612199?hash=item594cebd0e7:m:m4YYRmXXXvGIxgAgeShbVqw
  2. Is the ESC brand new or have you had it working before? What is in doing that you think it needs a reset?
  3. Not that this helps but this happened to 4 motors in a row on my sons Ripmax Husky. Got about 30 mins usage out of it and then gone. So much so we shelved it! It was 4 of the stock Ripmax 370 motors so not sure if they are just cr@p. Checked everything each time we replaced a motor and nothing seemed obvious as to what caused it. (Just mentioning it as I see you have one too)
  4. All, The following post is purely for anyone interested in the car and doing the same mods to theirs. Following getting my old AtomXT Maverick back from the dead.... ..... my son decided he wanted his own RC car for his birthday. Since he's only 10, we chose the Tamiya Rising Fighter (Great service and price from TimeTunnelModels) so we could build it together and then he could have some fun with it. Firstly, despite some comments I've seen here and there about the Rising Fighter and Grasshopper range, we had fun building it and it runs great for him. Anyway, as Dad can't stop dicking around with things, we've also done some mods as follows: Transmission brace - similar to the one that Mark Bryan RC details on his youtube channel - he calls his "rough and ready" however i think ours is even more! We had to trim a little off the battery door too. Tamiya Hop-up CVA Damper Set DT-03 Front Shock Support - similar to the one that Rob Brennan RC details on his youtube channel Some photos below show the mods and if anyone wants to make the same transmission brace, I've also posted some dimensions of the one I made and the starting bracket was a Galvanised Corner Brace 90 Degree Angle Bracket Joist Timber Mending Plates 40x40x40 like the one in the photo. Anyway, I hope this is useful for anyone who comes here thinking about mods for the Rising FIghter. It without a doubt has improved the handling however I'm going to shorten the front shock support to give it a little more camber as I think that'll make it even better. Now what next??
  5. Bit late to this party but that jittering you originally had was exactly the same as what I had when I switched on my old AtomXT Maverick which was still a 27mhz brushed setup. I've literally just finished getting it back up and running with a new receiver, ESC, Motor however at first I tried using my old battery. It was registering a charge and the charger thought it was charged however it just wasn't sending enough power. I upgraded the battery (just a NiMH) and hey presto, all good. Now....I'm glad I have breathed new life into my AtomXT but....i'm wondering if the jitteryness was caused by the old battery all along 🤔
  6. So before I ordered the Hobbywing ESC I had one last bash at getting the Surpass ESC and Motor combo to work. I’d tried it with 2 old NiMH batteries and 2 not so old NiMH batteries, all fully charged (or at least the charger thinking they were). Irrespective, I bought a brand new 1800mah NiMH battery and gave that a go. Rather than getting a 1/18 size I just bought a standard size. So there was some internal reconfiguration required! Configuration done, battery charged and connected and Bingo...for about 5 seconds then it cut out. Then it cut in, then it cut out. Aargh, the Deans to Tamiya converter was not behaving. Ended up cutting the Deans off the Surpass and soldering on a Tamiya and full success at last! Now I have a very rapid little Truggy once again and converted from 27Mhz and brushed to 2.4Ghz and brushless.
  7. Yes, Basher.. sorry, new to the lingo. Not a rock crawler. We have a large garden with lots of grass and trees so it'd be good to be racing it around that.
  8. Thanks Drnose, Have started looking at Traxxas rustlers on eBay. Maybe start with some used bits since i'm considering upgrading it anyway. Any other suggestions?
  9. All, What would you all suggest for a good base RC car for <£200 which would give lots of opportunity for me to fritter away cash infinitely upgrading and tweaking things over time? Has to be; an off-roader as it'll be primarily used on grass. ready to run in it's initial guise largely compatible with aftermarket mods Thanks in advance Ron
  10. Cheers, I’ve contacted the seller and ordered the Hobbywing too. Thanks for the recommendation. Will let you know how that turns out.
  11. Cool, I’ve contacted the seller. is the Hobbywing ESC this one HW30110000? Do you know if I’d be able to attach it to the Surpass motor? Here’s the spec sheet, it’s the 2030, 4500kv model. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QXn15VEbTCCDvBk1jyuGjRMS_pyd0RFG/view thanks
  12. If you google that ESC motor combo it does seem quite common, not just that seller who’s selling it. Just not a lot of info about it though! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07SNP94D9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xztQEb6R64M3K
  13. Thanks for the reply Paul. It’s just a GoolRC TG3. Again because the original car had a 27MHz receiver I just wanted a reasonably cheap equivalent controller and receiver. Just had a look at the transmitter and the throttle limiter and throttle trim are all at normal positions. I tried the holding it in full rev (I had been holding it in full fwd before) and then switching on ESC but it still doesn’t seem to enter calibration mode. As such I’ve just ordered An ESC programming card, see if that helps!
  14. Hi all, Noob and no idea what I’m doing so I make no apologies! Due to the Covid situation I found my old broken Atom XT Maverick RC car and thought it be a great idea to fritter away eBay cash on it trying to fix it. I bought a GoolRC controller and receiver only to work out that it must be the ESC that was knackered. I then bought a SURPASS HOBBY KK Combo 2030 4500KV Brushless Motor w/ 25A ESC (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383250178520) It was only £20 not £30 as it is now. I have installed this and it works however it’s running slower than a £1.99 RC car that Tomy would make for a 1 yr old! I assume I need to reset the ESC however I have no idea how to do this. I have followed the instructions. There is no reset button on this model. The old brushed motor on this car used to be super rapid, well rapid enough for back garden use! I assumed brushless would be at least as good and need less power. I’m using a 1500mAh 7.2v NiMH battery. Can anyone give me a clue or help? Appreciated and hope you are all staying safe.
