FTX Mauler Rock Crawler Owners Thread

Pretty much did the same paint wise... Changed the servo and that's all for the mauler.... Later picked up a second hand scx10 and fitted the ESC 1080 to that...but it was the Mauler that wetted my appetite. -

Hi, As far as I remember I didn't need an extension for the servo....it just connected fine....and can't check now but i believe the battery was Deans as well. -

Hi, I think you'll find this a great step into the world of Crawling...I'm new to this myself and enjoyed messing with the car & the Maulers 2.2 wheels make quite the difference I noticed compared to the Axial Scx10 I later bought. I like the Crawlers because you can set a course up in the garden and trail whenever you fancy...something faster tends to mean a trip with more space somewhere else. Enjoy. -

I picked up a battered Axial body off ebay to experiment on changing the look. At the moment I`m trying to find longer body posts to move forward. As a separate question to those who have changed the ESC and receiver, has it been a straight forward swap..mainly regarding the connections for the lights etc. Did you just unplug from the existing and plug into the new...? -

Be interested to hear what you think and what kind of actual difference you notice -

Yeah, I took John's advice and swapped my servo but filed those nibs down as well to give that extra -

Sorry, I can't answer your questions but as you've got a good selection of Axial rigs I figure you'll get a good idea once it arrives. I'm wondering if its possible to convert the Mauler to a Wraith ... the Wraiths wheels seem to stand a little more forward. -

Everything I've done so far is from suggestions here. Other than a can of plastic primer and jet black spray paint from Halfords the only thing I've bought is the servo...just keeping a look out for a random 2.2 wheel on ebay for the back now. -

Glowing review in this months RC Racer mag...so far I`ve changed the servo as previously mentioned but otherwise stock I did use tennis racket tape around the Transmitter which has added a massive improvement to the comfort/feel of the grip. -

Thanks....I`m expecting it to scratch a bit when it rolls...but for now its fine. I`m thinking of fabricating something out of Aluminium eventually . -

Decided to change the look a bit...not a fan of the skull thing...but I think it looks more a hobby vehicle now. Guess having to spray the outside will catch up with it but its ok for now. -

Thanks again John, But you misunderstood me...I'm keeping my existing esc etc for now...which leaves me wondering the best way to connect a new servo as existing servo wiring seems to lack an easy unplug option -

Hi John, Thanks, and I intend to get the servo you recommend...however for now I'm keeping the stock esc but looking at the wiring its not totally straight forward for a novice like myself. There is no unplug one and plug in another...I'm looking for ideas on best way to connect up .? -

Just received the Orange version this morning....wouldn`t mind seeing a few photos of your body mount upgrade and new shell...also any one who has changed their servo , how would you advise I should go about the electrics..? -

Hi All, I intend to get one of these ordered this week and finding this thread very helpful , so thank you to those posting the info , especially any mod photos and product links. So I`ve got a few questions to those who already have the FTX Mauler. Straight off I`ll get the suggested servo fitted, but similar models seem to need metal lockers ( such as hsp 180009 ) and talk of a need to grease the gears so any update on this would be appreciated. Finally I like almost everything about the Mauler but I can`t live with that body shell paint job...whilst I wait to buy a pickup shell sometime in the future ( and not get a clear Mauler shell ) I intend to overspray with a gloss/Metallic black and re sticker...any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. regards Kev T
