  1. Ok thanks. Maybe i'll just check the levels of oil then as mine seem very soft. No idea what the stock oil even is though. I'll have a look
  2. What weight oil do people generally run in the shocks on the VSE?? Mine feel very soft and slow. Thanks
  3. I never did solve the issue with my boys Carnage. I changed the motor twice and changed the ESC to a Hobbywing one and still had the same issue so I have just converted it to brushless and it's running sweet now. So much faster too. Probably not what you want to hear with a new toy but maybe you'll have more luck tracking down the issue than I did.
  4. Does anyone know the difference between the standard grey springs and the orange ones that are for sale on Modelsport?? Are the orange ones stiffer??? Thanks
  5. I know it has probably already been discussed on here somewhere but I can't be bothered to look throgh 239 pages!!! I want to upgrade my boys Carnage from brushed to brushless. Do I choose the standard 2950kv motor or the 3450kv motor? What is the difference between the two of them? They are the same price with the 45amp ESC. Also, do I need to upgrade or change anything else at the same time? Pinion or spur gear?? It will be running on 2s Lipo if that makes any difference. Thanks
  6. Thanks. I have checked most things but haven't changed no bearings and I haven't checked the front diff so I will do them next.
  7. No, still having the same issues. New ESC and motor but it is still getting hot and going into limp mode. Damn thing is driving me mad
  8. Yeah i have a feeling that the lipo is what is causing the heat issues. It does say 2s compatible but its a lot quicker on 2s than it was with the NiMh pack that came with it. Maybe a change of pinion gear might be an idea. Try to slow it down a bit and maybe keep the temp down a bit. Not sure what pinion to try though or what it comes standard with.
  9. They are good fun when they run ok. Are you planning on using lipos with yours or sticking with NiMh packs? The quality is a bit hit and miss and compared to my hyper you can definitely see the difference in quality but you get what you pay for i suppose.
  10. Hey, there is a lot of people who love them so hopefully you will have more luck than me. I'm determined to get to the bottom of it. I will get this damn thing running 🤣
  11. The lipos are 5200mah 30c. If I leave the car for a few minutes to cool down it runs as normal again, and the charger is showing very little drain from them so definitely not because they are low.
  12. The motors have all been installed with a very small gap between the gears. I've fitted quite a few motors over the years and have never had an issue so I guess I'm doing them ok. The first motor stopped working because he drove it through a boggy puddle so I bought a new one. After installing the new one it kept getting very hot and after a few runs it burnt out. Burnt smell coming from it and speed was hugely restricted. With the 3rd motor I also changed the ESC to a hobbywing one as I thought maybe that has gone bad too, but the issue is still there. It will run fine for a few minutes and then it starts to limp along and the motor is extremely hot. I have no way of checking the voltage on the batteries but I have 3 new 2s lipos and it does the same with all of them. The ESC jumper is set on the lipo setting. I'm getting to the point where I don't know what else to try.
  13. This motor is literally brand new. Along with the ESC. It gets hot running it on flat tarmac. If you use it in the grass it gets hot in no time at all. Like I said this is the third motor I've put into this thing and they have all got hot so something else is definitely causing it. I've got it stripped apart right now and I can't see anything wrong. Everything is moving freely and nothing is binding at all. Its probably only had about an hour of runtime since he bought it as it keeps burning through motors. How does the slipper clutch work and could that cause it if its not adjusted correctly? I know nothing about these slipper clutches to be honest. Thanks for trying to help.
  14. Yeah I've checked everything numerous times and can not see anything that would cause it. All 4 wheels spin with no resistance. Everything feels fine on it. There is a very small gap between the pinion and spur. Its actually running just in rear wheel drive at the moment. I removed the centre drive shaft to try and eliminate anything on the front wheels and it still gets hot in no time. I don't know what else to try to be honest.
  15. I've changed the ESC as well as that did go poof!! I have a Hobbywing ESC now but the motor is still getting very hot and the car goes into a sort of limp mode and runs very slow. I presume this is some sort of protection that the ESC is kicking in?? Not really sure. I can only get a few minutes out of it though before it gets too hot to touch. Running it on a 2s lipo. Ive almost given up with the damn thing. If he hadn't saved up and bought it himself I would have thrown it in the bin by now!!!
  16. The wheels and tyres are terrible. All 4 of them on my boy's one wobble around like mad. The motor keeps overheating too. On its 3rd one now and it's hardly been used. Definitely not the best of quality.
  17. Yeah they are nandas. They are years old. They are off my old hyper 7. I've only tried them on my VSE for a few minutes and one of the tyres came straight off so I put the original wheels back on. Might try them again one day.
  18. They are badland copies. I've gone back to the standard wheels and tyres as these keep coming off the rims. I've not really put much effort into trying to keep them on and I'm sure a good tyres adhesive would work. Also the offset of the wheel is different to the standard wheels and they rub slightly on full steering on the front.
  19. I personally prefer using one 4s pack rather than two 2s packs. If one pack went bad I would want to replace both of them anyway as I like to keep cells matched. I have not had any issues with deans, although there seems to be a few people who hate them. I did have to cut and modify the battery tray to get mine in though.
  20. I had to cut the front of my tray off, lower it and move the esc back to get my 6500mah 4S in. Not hard to do though.
  21. Can anyone recommend a replacemnt motor for the FTX Carnage (brushed version). My boy has gone through 2 motors in his with next to no use at all. I am replacing the ESC with a Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 and would ideally like to try a different motor this time as it seems as if the standard ones are pretty poor - and seemingly out of stock everywhere. Thanks
  22. Well it looks like the new motor that I put in the car has also gone bad again. I connected the motor straight to the battery without an ESC and its all over the place. Doesn't hold a steady RPMand surges up and down. Could a bad ESC make a new motor go bad?? I think I will go with the Hobbywing ESC but should I replace the motor with a different one or just stick another new standard one in it??
