  1. ESC fitted today and last few decals. As soon as the weather dries up a bit I will give it a run outside and video it. Not trying to run it inside as even in 1st with the standard can it's way too fast to navigate around all the furniture.
  2. First short shift down. Could get used to 4 hour days. Not so keen on the back ache now though.

  3. Paint cured nicely and after a quick flat I got it cleared while most people were still sleeping. Unfortunately none of the pictures are good enough due to a smudge on the lens. This is how she stands now. Few decals to fit once it's all nice and hard. Also got the mirror backs and sunvisor to fit. Then it's ESC and reciver, test fitted it all just waiting on some cable tidy before it gets stuck in.
  4. It's nice to stretch their legs on a layout but as with lots of areas of this hobby it can be very clicky. I enjoy the building most, my fleet are mainly display. Got a bit done today. Coupler release plate built back up and fitted. Grille parts arrived. Very impressed for the price. And the V8 infill bits. New rims on. My new 80t motor also sneaking into the picture, that's for the next build. And the rears. Cab is primed and painted but I forgot to take a picture and I don't want to open the workshop door now as it's dropped cold and the sawdust burner is on in there so it will keep it a stable temperature overnight to cure the paint.
  5. Very true OHO they are never truly finished, just treated my Grand Hauler to some aluminium rear links. They are only cheap Chinese copies but the finish is very good and they come with brass bushing and hardware. Original idea was to put them on this and polish them up but I like the painted ones now. Not really got much done due to man flu and the sudden cold snap of weather. With luck I will get cab into primer tomorrow though and my new ally wheels fitted.
  6. Been an eventful few days meaning not much time spent on the Scania. I now have a return to work date so this, the Bruder and my yet to be disclosed kit will be used to stop me over exerting myself. However a dose of killer death flu has ripped through the house so I've got some done. Both sets of wings fitted. There was a tough decision, 5 quid for pre cut vinyl or 99p for enough to do 3 trucks. Few decals fitted. Side skirt and front wings finished and fitted. Got some nice chrome V8 bits coming and mesh grille inserts but they will be a while yet as the manufacturer is still celebrating new year.
  7. HGV conversion and recovery specialist. I specialise in damage less recovery and scene preservation, hard job both physically and mentally so my RC's are my wind down tool.
  8. Very generous of you. One of these would add a touch of bling to my latest project https://store.rc4wd.com/Engine-Cover-for-Tamiya-114-Scania_p_3951.html
  9. Weather was against me today but did manage to get one set of wings cleared and flashed off in the workshop. Few bits to do to them once they are fully hardened up but I think they suit the build. Tried to paint a couple of test squares on some scrap plasticard but the lighter blue I had reacted badly with the primer so a bit of a rethink on that. Could have something to do with the paint being years old. Also got this put together. Yes one heater vent sticker is slightly crooked, no it won't be staying like that, replacements are on there way.
  10. Not 100% on the cab colour yet. It will either be the same blue with a few tasteful chrome trims or a mixture of the dark blue and a much lighter one. Got to paint up a couple of test cards yet to see which I prefer. Not much progress today as physio and meeting with work took most the day, managed to flat off some cab panels and the other set of rear wings though so hopefully get some paint on them soon.
  11. Cheers Rover Man. Been hard work to get a finish I'm happy with but it's well worth it. Had a quick look at the other kit today, happy to report those parts look fine so this must just be a bad kit.
  12. Paint was still a little softer than I would have liked but there is a predicted herd of teenage girls heading towards our house tomorrow and there is no way all the parts would survive. Little bit of black vinyl makes it look much better in my opinion. Fuel tank painted and vinyl straps fitted. Pink shocks have been turned chrome, just need to dry fully. I need to mod the other tank a little as I'm not using the stock power switch hole. Also got some wet flating to do before clear coating the rear wings.
  13. I agree totally. If it was my first kit it would have been my last. No way I would pay the price and have a truck that looked rough. The marks are hard to pick up on camera but the naked eye sees them immediately. I could be unlucky and have a duff kit, little bit of digging has revealed a small number of imperfect kits were recalled by Tamiya, maybe this is one. Tamiya rep I spoke to was giving nothing away. I'm not too concerned now, given me a chance to build a full on show style truck which I wouldn't have normally done.
  14. It's only the chassis parts that are bad, all the cab parts are perfect. As they are shared with all the models I assume your right and it's just wear, the parts on the Grand Hauler didn't have them. Got another kit in the loft, might have a nose it that tomorrow out of curiosity.
  15. Visit to work and an hour or so booth time really helped this project. Fair amount of the chassis parts given a coat of paint and more primed after the moulding marks had been removed. Total sum of painted parts so far. Chassis can start going back together once it's all hardened off properly.
  16. A wet day has meant yet more wet and dry action. Nothing worth taking pictures of. Hopefully one of the paint booths at work will be empty tomorrow and I can use it when I drop my sick note in and have a brew with the lads. Will speed things up nicely.
  17. So after sitting and looking at this on a shelf for a few days I've decided that I couldn't sell this on as it is, I wouldn't feel right selling it to someone with its current flaws. I pride myself in working to the best of my abilities and this is not the best I can do. Fueled on by that and boredom this happened today. Pulled right back to bare rails. Rails sanded, cleaned and a couple of coats of etch primer applied. Cross members and various other chassis parts sanded to remove all the moulding marks and a couple of coats of primer applied. All the parts are drying in the nice warm workshop over night, will check them over in the morning and flat them off before the final coat of primer. Hopefully get some colour on the early next week.
  18. Having built an American truck back to back with a Euro truck I feel for you. The Euro ones are a pain in my opinion.
  19. The interior still needs to be built but that's far better painted first. Going to stick it on the shelf for a while now I think. See if there is any interest at the next club meet, if not it will be pulled back to rails, painted and rebuilt with some bling.
  20. Plenty of spare time today so got stuck in to the build I'm glad to say the white parts are perfect and really need very little work. Had to tweak the front a little but got it to line up nicely. cab went together effortlessly. Looks good, few minor tweaks but it all lines up nicely. Picture with the Bruder work in progress.
  21. Wife went out and daughter was at college so had a couple of hours spare. Managed to get one side fabricated. Still needs a bits of tidying up when it's all cured but I think it should look good when it's done.
  22. Tamiya RC truck and crane are a nice friendly bunch and very knowledgeable @Rover Man
  23. Glad it's not just me. Thought I had missed the point of the hobby. I enjoy the building and tinkering as much as the running. I went the truck route as it's all about customising. To be honest I prefer the company on here anyway.
  24. My thoughts exactly. One of the mods went on the attack as soon as I posted it, as soon as I pointed out we were not all on unlimited budgets I got banned. Doesn't bother me just hate the thought of people trying to get into a hobby being scared off by the massive cost when it's not necessary. My Bruder will work for what I want for a fraction of the cost of say a Goldhoffer.
  25. Just thought I would add this, if anyone is considering getting into the Tamiya trucks and uses Facebook don't join any of the many groups if you dare to speak out if you disagree with a comment. Just been banned from 3 groups, that I have now realised share admin, for daring to say a Bruder trailer is a viable option. Bit off topic I know and if admin deem it inappropriate then I will happily remove but just wanted to warn everyone.
