  1. Is 4wd essential? People seem to get the performance out of 2wd Rustlers? The TRF looks pretty serious, I guess it would be a fall back and allow the claim on 100% Tamiya. Is the drivetrain available separately out of these, I wonder if that could be cobbled into a classic? (My thinking is that suspension would need to be locked down to virtually nothing, and therefore the floating back end could be chopped for another drivetrain??)
  2. It that a just a one-shot chemical "rocket engine"? I guess this could be the last resort but not what I aim for! Having said that 137mph!
  3. Thanks for the replies, should like this would be a bit more challenging than I had thought My hope was that the upgrades to the gearing and drive train could be similar to what is done with the Traxxas Rustler (my technical understanding is limited but the rear gear arrangement looks similar and modding to 100mph seems common (ish) place. Would the rear end of the Rustler swap in, and would it be considered cheating if it did? This definitely sounds like cheating! What is a TGX, could you provide a link? (All I could find was a Tamiya HGV model which i suspect may not be what you mean?) Thanks Chris
  4. Evenin' As the weather starts to improve I am thinking about what the second year in the hobby may bring. My first year saw me enjoying a Dromida SC18 with my young son, treating myself to a Losi Mini 8ight and dusting off my childhood Tamiya Grasshopper 2. It is memories of the Tamiya kit that bought me back to the hobby, and whilst I do not have the heart to thrash my 20+ year old GH2 , I am contemplating a classic Tamiya kit project. I was wondering the practicality of modding a classic kit to achieve 100mph? I am thinking the Grasshopper, Hornet, or may be the Mad Bull (thinking the wider wheel base may offer stability|) as a base for the project. Can it be done, has it been done before? Assuming brushless drivetrain, upgraded and locked down suspension, and changing out the wheels would be the starting point? Best regards, Chris
  5. Would be interested to see how thats developing. I did spot something on Shapeways (http://www.shapeways.com/product/HHLA9H6KA/losi-mini-8ight-battery-plate?li=search-results-1&optionId=42076918) but it was very expensive,
  6. Thanks, will have a play around with the existing shell
  7. Interesting, just velcro and not using the pins at all?
  8. Thanks Si, Phat Bodies have some nice looking shells, the "Turbo" looks like it offers a bit more room! None of any in stock though, do you know what the deal is? Do they restock regularly?
  9. I am sure these questions have already been asked, but this is a massive thread! Q1. Is there a more elegant way to mod the battery holder than simply snapping / cutting the arms off to accommodate LiPo batteries. I know its an easy mod but would kinda prefer a replacement tray with velcro straps or something? Q2. Are there any alternate shells available, something a bit bigger, its a bit of a pain squeezing every thing in under the stock cover? Q3. Any recommendations for harder wearing tyres, the stock aren't going to last long with LiPo? Best regards, Chris
  10. Yeah, that's certainly the impression I got and one of the main factors in picking the car.... makes it even harder.... family holiday next week and was hoping to take it along too! Oh well, part of the hobby I guess!
  11. Will do... gutted really, not how I was expecting my evening to turn out like Just checked, sadly not, wish there was a quick fix... looks like I'm going back to the shop
  12. Evenin' Very proudly picked up my first "proper" rc from the local hobby shop this evening, dashed home and charged some batteries. Really impressed with build and blisteringly quick compared to my Dromida...especially on 2S! But after 5 minutes the car is jammed into full left lock and the ESC / TX is squealing and bleeping, the servo will not respond and if I try to move it by hand the servo saver just flexes. I did give it a bit of a bump into a kerb, by nothing serious and not at full speed. The Dromida has taken hundreds of knocks and nothing major has happened. Tried to reset / rebind.... nothing.... Any clues? Feels like this has a faulty servo, rx or ESC out the box, surely 5 minutes is a record to break one of these??? Best regards, Chris
  13. Damn, just ordered one of these. This is a great price. Will buy the TBR front & rear, & tower protectors if you are willing to split. PM me if you would consider.
  14. Fair enough, best of luck with the sale, looks a nice car Best regards Chris
