  1. Definitely, definitely, definitely go LIPO for all 3. No hassle messing about with charger settings either but they're just so much better. I made the mistake of initially going with a NiMH and it doesnt get used now.
  2. I thought STD was 88T/19T. According to the manual: the 88T can take pinions from 16T to 23T. the 83T can take pinions from 22T to 30T. the 77T can take pinions from 28T to 35T.
  3. So there's a new model out? Which do you have? Just set the cutout around 3.2v or so?
  4. The ESC is faulty - car won't reverse.
  5. Yeah, so it seems. Although they could have responded saying so though. It went from amazing service to no response.
  6. I have a problem with my Firestorm and they were dealing with it. Suddenly they've stopped responding to any emails at all.
  7. Did you get your order? I never got a response to any emails.
  8. Right. Seems such conflicting opinions on it from reading the thread. eg just European distribution affected. So what is the exact situation then? If you didn't notice the small print at the bottom of the website, it just looks business as usual. James and Josh and the rest not there anymore?
  9. Don't know if it's a co-incidence or not but since this news, none of my mails to HPI are being acknowledged or being replied to. Usually great service but nothing now.
  10. News around that HPI (Europe?) have gone into administration? Or the distribution side of the business? Hope not because their customer service really is second to none. Having said that, I've not heard about my ESC - hopefully not related.
  11. Not very happy at the minute. My Flux wouldn't reverse. Had my ESC firmware upgraded by HPI - still the same. Sent off the ESC again with the motor - and got a new motor. Still no beeps and still no reverse. Everclear1984, are you sure the beeps come from the motor? I've swapped the receiver and still no reverse. Swapped the controller and still no reverse. If I run the car with the wheels off the ground and then select reverse they stop very quickly - so its braking appears fine. If I pull the car backwards it moves freely - and if I engage reverse there is resistance. ESC set to normal braking mode and 2 clicks. Changing between 25% and 100% braking force makes no difference, still no reverse.. Very, very occasionally, when I hold the back end up and push the throttle forward the wheels do spin in reverse but seems completely random. I've also just completely loosened the pinion and it makes no difference - completely removing any possible mechanical issue I think? Has to be the ESC surely?
  12. Thanks. So the beep comes from the motor. I did check the brake/crawler mode and that's fine. I did a reset - and also I assume the firmware update would do so too. My guess is that water's got into the 'waterproof' motor then. Will check when I get a chance tomorrow. Those screws look tiny - any idea what size they are (for spares..)? 1mm?
  13. Can someone tell me where the 'beep' comes from when you're adjusting settings on the ESC? Mine stopped beeping after a drive in wet grass. It also stopped reversing. I sent it back to HPI who have upgraded the firmware and said it's now fine - but it's still not beeping. Making ESC settings adjustments is hard just using the lights and will be nigh on impossible in daylight outdoors. If I lift the rear wheels off the floor and go pull the throttle back and then fwd it seems to apply the brakes - but a subsequent press doesn't go in reverse. I think it could be a connection going into the motor as if I hold them in a certain position then sometimes it will reverse. I'm guessing those wires aren't user serviceable? motor is the MMH-4000 brushless.
  14. ...unless I add other goodies to kid myself the postage isn't as big a ratio to the stuff I'm buying... :):)
  15. Postage makes them about the same really. EDIT: beaten to it..
  16. Cheers - assume it's a direct replacement? Fits in and no other parts/links required? EDIT: need waterproof.
  17. Can you recommend one? The video suggests it's faulty then yes?
  18. So, after the ESC stopping working, HPI agreed that I could send it in and they would upgrade the firmware for me. Then it started working again. Took the car out and noticed it wouldn't turn left properly. Took the shell off and noticed the servo struggling to move left - but was OK right. Assumed the servo saver - but have just removed the link to the car and it's the same - see vid. (Not quite sure how the saver adjusts on the Firestorm.) http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v156/sjw01/20151120_112609_zpsjuthimwf.mp4 Is the servo faulty? Assuming so I might as well send it with the ESC and have them both looked at? Thanks.
  19. Wow, cheers for that. Just sent HPI a mail. Had great service off them in the past (stripped a pinion on first run) Cheers
  20. Just been using the Firestorm Flux (77mph model) in the wet grass. It's stopped working now and won't switch on. There seemed to be some smoke coming from the esc when I took the body off and a mate reckons the ESC has gone. It's the EMH-3s. I got this back in Jan from Modelsport. Is there anything I can do with them or do I need to buy another ESC? Cheers
  21. I've found these batteries with this connector to be fantastic. No soldering needed and I find the leads coming out of the top leaves far less room for cable damage against the front bulkhead of the battery compartment.
