  1. Hi, My youngest son has a Tamiya Mad Bull that is great fun and gets lots of use, and my eldest son Finley now is fancying a car of his own but wants one he can in his words "mess about" with as he loves taking stuff to bits modifying them nerf guns, pushbikes, lego, meccano etc and strangely for a 14 year old he enjoys putting it all back together again! He is big into pushbike and motorcycle trials so he really likes the idea of a rock crawler and our back garden would be perfectly suited to one. But he also still likes the speed of the Mad Bull and would want to have a 'bash" and jump now and again with this brother. Is there a car on the market that is able to do that ie a rock crawler-basher combo !! Or would that make it too compromised and therefore good at neither. The other thought I had, and this would also feed his habit for modifying things. Can you convert a Maverick Scout into a basher ? Its a cheap start up kit, looks a decent enough crawler (from the reviews and video online) but I can't find any info on converting it. Could you shorten and stiffen the suspension, and change the gearing to make it faster? I realise this wouldn't be a 5 minute swap over but it would keep him busy for an evening the day before a trip out with the mad bull. Then another evening turning it back to standard if he fancied a bit of rock crawling again? Is this a crazy idea? Would the scout last about 5 minutes as a basher ? Any better suggestions, for less than
  2. Thanks everyone for the advice, plenty of time between now and christmas to do a nice job, don't see it as being a chore to do it properly. Hopefully is should still look ok for a few weeks, after that a few battle scars can be classed as "patina" Bought the sealed bearing kit for the wheels and have plenty of low strength threadlock so should be fine. Just looked in the box and it comes with TEU104BK speed controller Doesn't look very mechanical to me so i guess im ok with it ?? Thanks Phil
  3. Hi, I have bought my son a Tamiya Mad Bull for Christmas. The idea is to build it together over the holidays but I intend to try and paint the body myself beforehand so we don
  4. Is there an eBay seller in Hong Kong or China that you guys have used that you could recommend?
  5. After a few recommendations on here and some decent reviews on youtube. I have decided on a FlySky 3GTC to go with my son's Tamiya Mad Bull christmas present. Trouble is I can't seem to find an official UK based stockist. Loads on ebay, but i would rather not buy from some random guy in China and then have the major hassle of sending it back if it doesn't work. I realise one in the UK will be a bit more expensive but im ok with that. Where would you suggest i got one from? Thanks
  6. That seems to make sense, bigger investment initailly but better than buying twice Would either of these be a good buy, seems to do everything, and it works off 12v aswell which is a bonus so i can use it when out in our Camper. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/overlander-rc6-vsp-80watt-7a-output-ac-dc-charger-with-fan/rc-car-products/379060 http://www.modelsport.co.uk/core-rc-uac50-charger-12v-110-240v-6a/rc-car-products/365880 If its no good what would you suggets instead Phil
  7. Mad Bull, bearing kit, Flysky GT3C, a decent battery and a fast charger, all sorted The only thing left that I'm not sure about is the servo ?? Apologies if these are very basic questions but I haven't a clue. Does the make of servo have to match anything else or are they all compatible with any other brand of electronics ?? Also do they all have standard mounting holes to fix it back to the chassis? Or do I need to buy one specifically fit a Tamiya kit ? What would you recommend ?? http://www.modelsport.co.uk/servos/rc-car-categories/9910/991020 Thanks

  9. Just about to ask the very same question so, double up if thats ok? I was also looking at the Flysky FS-GT3B and GT3C kits http://www.giantshark.co.uk/product/171883/flysky-gt3b-3-ch-transmitter-rx-for-car-boat http://www.giantshark.co.uk/product/171882/flysky-fs-gt3c-transmitter-rx-for-car-or-boat
  10. My first question so please be gentle with me I have spent the last 2 weeks glued to the WWW, mainly on this forum and YouTube trying to work out which kit will be best for my 11 year old son to start out with. The information on here has been invaluable and I have settled on either a Tamiya Mad Bull, Rising Fighter or a LunchBox the final decision will be his but it looking like it will be the Mad Bull. I realise there are other kits available that are more modern/cheaper, are better handling and have better future upgrade options but these are my reasons for choosing the Tamiya kits, 1. The idea of building it together from scratch looks great fun and it will add another dimension to it for him and hopefully turn it into a long term
