  1. Hi, Not built a kit in a long while and want something to get my hands busy with. It’s just for bashing in the garden. I don’t like trucks or truggies. I’ve got all the required RC gear etc. could someone suggest a kit please. I seems that almost everything is now RTR if it’s not a Tamiya or pro level. What happened to all the kits. It’s so much fun to build. Am I missing something? Cheers Tom
  2. Cheers for the replies. Doing some research and the ECX looks ideal. I'd prefer a full build but maybe a build to drive kit is a good halfway house. Does se anyone know they are like on grass?
  3. Hi all, my my son is asking for an rc car for his birthday. I would love to get him one but am struggling with what's the right choice. I would love to build a kit with him as I think it's important to see how it all goes together. However kits seem to be few and far between these days. It will be mainly used for bashing on grass so needs to contend with that. From my own research it would seem a 1/8 size will be better for grass but I don't want to intimidate him. I have had cars since I was a kid along with planes, helis and gliders so I'm not worried about abilities for myself to help him. It has to be electric as nitro is too much and too noisy. I'm thinking brushed or at least only a moderate brushless set up to keep the speeds down in the beginning. I live in north scotland with no local model shops near me so spares support needs to be good on the internet. And of course I don't want to break the bank as he's only seven! Can anyone recomend a brand or model that might tick some of those boxes? Cheers
  4. Hi all, I'm just getting back into rc cars and looking around the local area there are few options for racing. There's an off-road north of Inverness or on-road at Stonehaven. Both of these options are a bit of a drive for a regular commitment. So, I have come to the only obvious conclusion, that setting up my own local RC track is the way to get a regular race. To that end I'm interested to see if there is any demand in my area. Would anyone be interested in an indoor carpet track for 1/12 pan or 1/10 touring in the Forres area? If so so would you be willing to pay, say £5 for a nights racing? This is is just me putting out some feelers to see if it's worth my effort. I may do it anyway just for myself as the fuel costs alone for traveling to the two nearest tracks almost cover the venue hire not to mention the 3-4 hours of travel there and back. All ideas are welcome. Cheers Tom.
  5. Hmmm, I guess that means none. Bummer!
  6. Hi all, Does anybody know of clubs or tracks in the east anglia area that are open during the day, mid week? Suffolk would be best but Norfolk or Cambridge would do. I get time off mid week and work weekends a lot. This means I risk life and limb if I say I'm going rc car racing on the occasional weekends I have off instead of spending time with the wife and boy. Any help? Tom
  7. Sounds right EpicLURcher. Sorry, I think we got into a bit of out of sync posting. I was trying to answer the post before but you had already posted by the time I'd finished posting. Any how, any more suggestions?
  8. As an example, If you want 200 amps, a 30C will need to be 6666mah but a 45C will need to be 4444mah. Still when you are getting up to 90C, that's some serious power! Tom
  9. Yup, Thought I might have to go to a bigger C rated Lipo, still if you up the mah you are effectively increasing the available amps. So a lower C rating with a higher mah can produce/ have available similar amps to a high C rating with lower mah. Hope that makes sense? Tom
  10. Cheers EpicLURcher, Seems quite similar? I know it's not good for bashing up and down the street. I'll be driving it on an airfield dispersal with very few loose objects. They tent to get blown away by the 10 tonnes of down wash from the other residents. Nice and smooth too. Tom
  11. Hi all, I have a birthday upcoming and the wife has said get what ever you would like. Now, I'm sure there are those of you who know that when a wife say that, what she really means is I love you but please not another RC toy! Well that was never going to happen so I showed her the price of a T4 and she said that's a lot for a silly looking circuit board. The irony and scorn were falling off her words in great big dollops. Needless to say, as I'm a big brave boy and happy with my place in the family hierarchy, I'm not going to tell her it doesn't even come with wheels! So I'll be buying the guts and all myself. To be honest, this is going to be well waisted on me. I don't race and can't see me managing to do so. I have lots of time off, but its midweek. If anybody knows somewhere I can go midweek in Suffolk I'd be very greatful. Anyhow, back to the guts. I'm thinking of a Savox sc1252 for steering. Not sure if it should be the 7kg or 9kg version? A speed passion Reventon Pro esc with the V3.0 MMM brushless motor combo. Not to sure which turn motor to go for, 13.5t or 10.5t or 5.5t? Just don't see what differance it will make if I'm not racing? And a Thunder Power lipo 35c? Not too sure if this C rating will deliver the power required and not to sure what mah to go up to? As for boots I'm looking at a set of Sorex? And finally a PF masdaspeed 6 to hide all the goodies under? I know this will probably (defiantly) be overkill for just driving around, but its so pretty. Any thoughts on any of the above would be greatfuly recieved. Tom
  12. Yup lots on eBay. None of them are thinner than 1mm. Very annoying.
  13. Cheers, they might. I think I'll need some in varining thickness as not all the play is equal. Polishing a proverbial but would be nice to make a car as good as one can. It just seems there is a lack of different thicknesses. Oh well, I'll keep looking and call modlesport to see what they can do.
  14. I have looked everywhere, but can not find washers or spacers or shims any where. Well, not with the dimensions I'd like. I'm trying to take out a little slop from my axles. I need an M5 washer .5mm thick, or should I say thin? It's proving a bit of a challenge. This may just be because I'm searching for the wrong thing but its driving me crazy. So, does anybody know where I can buy shims, spacers, washers in rc car sizes in thicknesses of less than .8 mm? Please if you know, don't keep it to yourself. Thanks
