  1. My nephew is looking to race his Blitz. Does Bury run a short-course class?
  2. Nitroholic - that's an interesting mathematical equation. I have been running a hardcase Turnigy 4500mah/30c in my TT MT4 G3 which has an ESC rated at 150A. It runs very well, but does tend to get quite warm, so Im thinking it may be too much of a load. 4.5x30 = 135. My Zippy 5000Mah/30c seems to be running only slightly warm, so that's something to think about. They never tell you this in school......
  3. Its an interesting thread. When I was a young lad in my teens getting into the hobby then Tamiya was pretty much the only choice. Then other manufacturers appeared such as Kyosho, Marui, Associated, Schumacher, etc, which all seemed to push the engineering envelope and move on in terms of design and handling. I was out of the hobby for a good few years, but got back in about 3 years back. I was looking at getting another Tamiya, but was disappointed at the lack of progress made by them. The same kits that existed 30 years ago are great for nostalgia, but I wouldn't go out and but a Ford Capri circa 1984 over a current Focus, and the same goes with a Tamiya kit. Even the entry level RTR cars from budget makes such as FTX and Maverick offer much better value for money IMO, and the killer for me with Tamiya is how you are always buying extras to make the damn things run. Radio gear, batteries, chargers, ESC in some. When you look at the price of a Super Hotshot, you could get a Thunder Tiger 1/8th brushless EB4 G3 which is a totally different class. If people want to spend their money on a Tamiya, well that's great, but if you are getting the hobby now then I would strongly advise looking what else is available.
  4. Didn't see the Thunder Tigers mentioned yet. The e-MTA is available for about
  5. Yep, its the one coming out of the diff assembly, the inboard one if you will. I will get some ordered ASAP. I really should check the inner workings and grease. I also have a front CVD that is slightly bent and banana shaped. Do these straighten easily, or should I get a couple of these ordered aswell? .....And the second bodyshell I got has a tear in it after landing on the roof. Mmm, what to replace it with....?
  6. I snapped a rear drive cup where the dog bone goes in . Are these easy to fit?
  7. Well, another days bashing on 4s and I must say the more I use the truck, the more I like it. Its taking me a while to get to grips with its jumping ability as I am used to the Carnage breaking if I push it too hard. No problems though. I stuck the wheelie bar and found it to be easy to wheelie as long as the surface was grippy enough. I know some have had issues with the servo not being too good, but I have tightened the servo saver and I also have a technique of easing off the throttle slightly or even applying a touch of brake, which will have the effect of handbrake turns on a dime. Its a very easy car to drive and one of the surprising things has been how good it is at slow speeds, especially climbing steep banks. The tyres have such a large profile that they just dig in and propel it forward. Its ace on rough terrain at speed also and remains composed when going from smooth to rough. The Carnage would sometimes just flip over on big bumps. Cant wait to get my other battery soldered up.
  8. Thanks guys, that's reassuring. I have some foam padding that I will stick in the Mt4 chassis which should prevent movement. Nice one.
  9. Hi guys, Has anyone had bad experiences with soft case Lipos in cars, as opposed to hard case? Obviously hard case are going to be tougher and more durable, but also more expensive, and not as much choice. Are there major reasons not to run soft case in off road cars? (Im thinking 4 s for the MT4 G3). Thanks.
  10. Dogs are annoying and can get themselves hurt. I just stop the car and pull over and wait until they have walked on. I have heard the comments such as 'He doesn't like those things' and 'Are you allowed to run that round here?'. I even had a woman with a dog saunter past the other day. I stopped and waited for her to pass but she kept stopping and watching me. When she had finally got 100 yards off I started only for her stupid mutt to give chase. I like dogs and other animals, but the natural instinct is there and owners have a responsibility to keep them under control. I stripped the servo saver and acumen assembly today and popped a couple of 12mm washers under the nut. It is a fiddly business though and it seized up when I reassembled, until I realised a washer was stopping the servo saver turning.
  11. Hi guys, Can my nephews HPI Blitz be run on a 2s Lipo? Its the standard Orange/White model and currently runs on Mimh 7.2v. Obviously my Lipos have Deans connectors, so would need an adaptor to Tamiya. Would the ESC be able to run Lipo straight away or would it need resetting? Also, would there be any noticeable difference in speed or run time? He is only young and has 1 battery so its more a case of letting him have more driving time when he visits. Cheers.
  12. Yes, Simon, it is not the greatest shell in terms of durability. Its bound to smash when you have 4kgs of truck landing upside down, though. I quite like the look of the E-Revo for my next body. Hopefully the stock shell will last a few months so I can save up! Servo saver keeps coming loose aswell. I will stick a zip tie under.
  13. Another run this morning. A much cooler day than yesterday, about 4c according to my car temperature. Proper off road driving today with a wooded to open area with a jump, shallow embankments and damp soil. The MT4 was running well and the motor seemed to be cooler today. Warm to the touch, but not hot. I moved the motor wires so they were sticking out of the top cover and not pressed on top of the ripper. This seemed to help, as I noticed yesterday that these wires were getting hot too. The battery was warm to the touch, but again, not as warm as yesterday. I flipped it at one stage and thought I had destroyed the body shell, but it will live for now. I am going to fit some more lexan under the rear wing mounts as these almost punched through body where they touched. Hopefully this will protect it more. Thank goodness it wasn't on tarmac!
  14. Hi guys. Finally got my batteries through and took the MT4 G3 for a spin on the local playing fields and car park. It was running well and very quick on 4s. However, the motor was running hot to the touch, and by the end of the session (20 mins or so) the lipo was warm to the touch also. Ambient temperature was about 12 c, a nice spring day, but not red hot. Is this normal? Cheers.
  15. Can I join your select club? Just received my blue MT4 G3 from Wireless today. Its massive compared to my 1/10 Carnage. Weighs a tons also. Unfortunately I don't have any 4s lipos yet and I was trying to have a test run on a 2s pack. The car worked on a stand, but as soon as there was any load on the wheels it cut out. I am assuming this is something to do with a low-voltage cut-off? Also, I think I have done the binding correctly, but the green binding light continually flashes when the transmitter is turned on. Is this correct (new transmitter same as Lous). I was working all day so haven't had time to read through the manuals and check all the screws and bolts are tight. Front toe is way out and camber need adjusting all around. Gear mesh seems ok though. BTW, great service from Wireless. I ordered yesterday around lunch time and the car arrived lunch time today. Got fed up of waiting for MS to get stock in.
  16. Hey Greener, how does the MT4 compare to the Carnage?
  17. I have been bashing with my nephew recently (or watching, as he doesnt give the controller back) and the tarmac where he lives is a high-grip surface, causing the Carnage to roll and sometimes wheelie on 2s. It tends to drift more where I live as the tarmac is older and slippery. Question is, are roll-bars and a wheelie bar a good option to keep the wheels on the ground? It looks like Im going to have to order a new shell and front bumper so I may as well get a few more parts. Its all good fun though.
  18. Anyone tried the Nitro Aluminium lower chassis on the electric model? Yes, I know it will need a bit of drilling and milling but I wonder if it can be adapted. Its less than
  19. Another Carnage fan here. I even let my 9 year old nephew loose on the road with it. He hit loads of kerbs, had a few flips and the truck is still fine. Mind, the plastic body posts look like someone has taken a file to them.
  20. I suspect the FTX vantage wheels should fit, but not sure without checking. It depends on the size of the axle adaptor. I think they are 12mm hex. Probably easiest way is to take into a model shop.
  21. I have seen a set of 'Alternative' Carnage tyres and wheels advertised, but never seen a picture yet! Do Maverick or LRP fit?
  22. Summit would be my first choice. Loads of videos on YouTube to demonstrate its versatility. And LEDs.....
  23. Anyone tried the 'Outerwears' like Squirrel recommends?
