    Smoke :(

HI Folks, I just got some smoke. Motor seemed to be cogging a bit last time I had my Mini-Summit out. Plugged it into a pair of stock traxxas NiMHs in series - tried the throttle a bit & smoke came out of the battery vents! I'm not amused! Turns out I'd managed to de-solder the battery wires >.< Any idea's what it would might be that went wrong? I've not had any issues with electronics before, so I'm not really sure. What should I be looking at replacing it with? I did toy with the old SV2 & 540 Sized brushless, that's a fair investment - but then I understand replacing the traxxas bits is likely to be as much or more. Any advice welcomed.
  3. Are these all the newer E-Firestorm fluxes you're powering on 3S? I'm pretty sure the electronics for mine the older flux motiv combo need the motor changing from 5700kv to 4600kv before 3S can be used. My understanding is that the new flux vapor electronics are ok.
  4. I have an E-Maxx & an E converted Revo/Nitro Roller which I could let you have... drop me a PM if you like
  5. Hmm... I find that the research, ideas and development of my RCs is what keeps me focused. What if? I wonder what that would do. I have only had RCs for less than a year, and collected 6. Maverick as my intro, two firestorms, two is always better right? An E-Maxx, for something larger, and a revo to see how it was different. The challenge of learning how they work has kept me entertained for a year, and I do enjoy getting out and about with mates, or my cousin and seeing the feats they can perform. I think I need to look at racing to indulge my competitive side, and give measure to the tweaks and improvements I make. It's just unfortunate that there don't seem to be any off road tracks nearby :/ Edit: Forgot to include my AX-10 Crawler in the list... just for something different again, to learn some different skills
  6. Will certainly be a bunch to keep an eye on. If they can drop that 1/8th Combo at the right price, I may well have a home for it in my E-Maxx or Revo
  7. Geolanders are decent onroad, and decent on dry grass, gravel, packed dirt etc. They're not so great on damp grass & I've not given them a whole lot of wet mud to play with yet
  8. That's presumably the 4wd advantage. I had my firestorm out on damp grass today, and just couldn't get enough grip on the rears to really open her up I think some spikes/studs would be better than my geolanders for that. As soon as I came back onto concrete though, she was away . I've only got geolanders on the rear, but that's because I bought a second firestorm, and donated two for the rear of that. I think on dirt or hard stuff, it corners better with all 4, but on the grass wet or dry it doesn't seem to matter much over the stock grooved fronts.
  9. Is this less flexible than generic gaffa tape? I strapped up my Geolanders with generic stuff, and they still double in size if my firestorm isn't touching the deck :/
  10. Went out for a little spin tonight... was a bit chilly, around 3.5' 60sec later, my mate hit me in the foot with a firestorm... knew he'd hit me, but it didn't hurt or anything. Seems the firestorm was a little less lucky... I guess that the plastic was very brittle due to the low temperature, Its the worst damage I've done to the firestorms in a year or so of owning them.
  11. I had a lot of trouble with wheels binding due to me over-tightening them. And then I had some issues with the wheel nuts coming off. I'd suggest have a play to find the right sort of tightness, and then use a dab of thread-lock once your practised.
  12. Thanks, glad to know they fit, the cables being top-mounted is a big appeal - The last ones I bought didn't fit in the firestorms, I can only use them in my Maxx. I'd hate to grab the Turnigy ones and find a similar issue.
  13. Anyone tried the NLB LiPos in a firestorm? They look like just the job. http://shop.northlondonbashers.co.uk/lipo-batteries/26-nlb-lipo-5000mah-2s-35c-hardcase-74v.html
  14. Looking good, particularly those shocks. Who's are they, and what do you reckon to them?
  15. is it my imagination, or does this look a lot like a firestorm?
