  1. I find it interesting in this day and age how people make uninformed choices about purchases, you only have to spend an hour or so googling away and you can get a pretty good idea of what's a good or bad brand or product to buy. Sure everyone has there own opinion and preferences about certain products, but you can get a good feel about most things by doing a little research. If I was going to start a new hobby in something I knew nothing about, I would read everything I possibly could about it so I could make an informed decision as to what to buy, okay we all occasionally make a hasty purchase and buy something that's no good (cheap ebay AV cables come to mind) but I can live with that if it was only a few quid, but not if I'm shelling out a few hundred.
  2. It's not going to be a savage or a madforce, but it will be a monster truck...and maybe brushless if I can find a decent roller...just missed one on ebay
  3. I know what I want (I think)..unfortunately they seem to be hard to find used...and you can't get them new any more.
  4. I shall make it my mission to build a pit proof truck! Got a few ideas which may involve another conversion, as I'm not quite giving up on brushless just yet...
  5. I'm thinking this could be a bad idea Paul?! we may need a canoe...
  6. cool- i'll be ready, just need to make a quick bodge fix on the savage!!
  7. are we still on for today chaps? weather looks a bit funky! got my battery's on charge though..
  8. I have a TL-01 roller kicking about that I don't use, will dig it out and bung some pics up if your interested?
  9. Thats not good...I would pull all the electrics out and bung them somewhere warm like an airing cupboard. the engine should be okay- flush it out with a load of wd40 or fresh nitro fuel. Take as much of the car apart as possible then give the parts a good spray over with wd40 let it all dry out and It should be fine. Give the air filter a good wash and dry on a radiator, then re-oil it.
  10. The 20% is fine, I'll even try to charge my rota-start battery properly this time!!
  11. I have recently been watching a lot of 'Jay Leno's garage' episodes on you tube, which featured the bike http://youtu.be/1nN1q2ihw2Y interesting stuff...
  12. I'm really rather fed up of re-building diffs now Paul! To be fair it's the first diff I've ever broken in a savage. Would love a lift on Saturday if that's cool, and could do with some fuel if your getting some...
  13. I'm pretty certain the mounts are all the same...the LRP should drop straight in. The only thing you will need is the drive shaft to go with the XL chassis.
  14. seems like I'm not having much luck with diffs at the moment, I pulled apart the savages front diff and discovered what was left of a spider gear rattling around... luckily I have some spares from all the diff rebuilds I've doing recently! So all back together now and should be good for Saturday
  15. I'm not working on the 7th so I should be able to go, just need to check over the savage though as the front diff seems a bit crunchy...could be full of gravel though!! Paul - I did say we would probably end up getting 1/5 cars!!!
  16. there's some flat spots of dirt around the pit at Friday woods which would be fine for a WR8 and your most welcome to come down next time we are down there keep an eye on the thread for details.
  17. The whole tapping/percussive thing got really popular when Newton Faulkner broke into the mainstream. The technique is not actually as complex as it looks, it's done using open tunings so even if you hit strings by accident it will never sound out of tune It does mess up the finish of your guitar though. I used to get people trying guitars in the shop and start playing in this style (usually badly) I used to tell them "stop banging the guitars please, If you want to bang something there's a drum kit you can play over there"
  18. well the world's uglyist, bodged together savage ran well for at least 2 minutes :)

  19. Paul- this was the sort of abuse my old savage used to have to deal with! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUPhU74iCIo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmDP_JCofQg
  20. I have built one big ugly savage sprayed an old shell on the outside, as the old paint wouldn't come off, looks a bit better than it did anyway..had to cut the rear tail gate off the shell to squeeze it on! A massive amount of quick bodges holding this thing together, and still have no idea whether the engine actually runs...guess i'll find out tomorrow!
  21. Just heard Lee will meet us down there as well
  22. I do think Di'caprio is a good actor, and catch me if you can is a great film...I didn't think Wolf of wall street was particularly good though, certainly not one of Scorsese's best efforts. Granted Di'caprio put in a good performance and I thought the first hour was excellent, but then It just doesn't go anywhere story wise for the following 2 hours, just a endless repetitive amount of drug consumption and debauchery- disappointing really as I really wanted to like it. After seeing 'The Fighter' I really rate Christian Bale as an actor now, which before I was never overly keen on him, Mark Whalberg was good in that film as well. For me my favorite actors tend to be the older ones (but when they were young) Al Pacino (Scarface, The Godfather, Heat) De Niro (Taxi driver,Raging bull, goodfellas, Ronin, Casino, Heat etc etc..) Jack Nicholson is always great to watch (the best 'Joker' in Batman-( sorry Heath RIP!) Denzel Washington I like Tom Hanks -Usually always in a decent film Gene Hackman (the French Connection) Marlon Brando (The Godfather, Apocalypse now) Steve Mc Queen Paul Newman Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, Close encouters of the third kind) Christopher Walken Lots more but I can't be bothered to type them all!
  23. Excellent, looking forward to it!
  24. Help! - anyone know of a quick bodge I can do on my savage..I havent got any C-clip's to go on the ends of the suspension hinge pins- what can I do to hold them so they dont fall out on the bash tomorrow? ideas??

the body clips I have are far to large. I might try wrapping a load of wire around it, then cover the wire in solder to keep it together.
