  1. The Carrera models are cheap and cheerful and the batteries last a long time. Presumably the controllers are small hand friendly too. Not digital proportional steering though but they look ideal for a young sprog. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/carrera-rc-electric-models/rc-car-manufacturers/1220/9900/990010
  2. Really enjoyed reading that. I used to have a TS 50 ER back in the early 90s. Wonder if it still exists...
  3. Shame because the Bullet is a great looking thing, especially in ST form.
  4. I bought the Core UAC50 Charger from Modelsport, I prefer to buy in the UK as it's easier to deal with a shop here if something needs to be returned. It works well and is very easy to use. Lipo batteries last longer than nimh's, especially with a brushless motor and are more powerful. I bought a Overlander 3900 mah from Modelsport (on their recommendation) and it's been great. It's a softcase one though, not a hardcase but if you prefer hardcase ones (better protection) they do those too. You will need a lipo charging sack to charge them too, for protection in the unlikely event something went wrong while charging. Generally they're safe if charged correctly.
  5. Those cheap shed alarms from places like Argos work well, mega easy to fit and are very loud, enough to scare someone off. But I'd not worry too much, as long as you've got a secure gate. Mind you, those trip wires that let off blank shotgun cartridges look fun! Imagine one of those going off in a shed in the total quiet of the middle of the night. Should make any burglar wet himself.
  6. No comfy chair or kettle?
  7. Great review, they're cool looking things. Not sure the drivetrain is really designed to cope with a brushless lipo set up though!
  8. My nephews tx's on/off button has stopped working. Have to remove the battery to turn it off. It's not the best but a new decent one is only
  9. Modesport sell RS2 Speed Passion Rollers new for
  10. What's it like as standard?
  11. Yeah call Modelsport, they're pretty good and will sort you out. Hopefully it won't put you off. I have an FTX Edge, the brushless version and it's been great so far, although I have had to order some parts due to a big crash at the weekend. First time out with it I lost a wheel, and the hex pin, washer and nut after about ten mins! Lesson learnt there, check all RTR wheels and nuts generally. Sometimes though they come over tightened so worth checking. I had a faulty charger too, is it that little Etronix Pocket charger? Got myself a Core uac50 charger and it's been great. Good luck with it, hopefully you'll be sorted soon.
  12. Thanks, have ordered some cheapo Schumacher ones, just hope they're 1/10th sized and fit ok. On closer inspection tonight I realised my car was broken. It's mashed the 'front top plate' which was meant the screws weren't holding it all together at the front end. No wonder it wasn't handling well! I think this could have been why it was wheelying so readily too, as it was allowing the front of the car to lift under power more than it normally would. Not cheap is it this RC lark. I really want to race, just not got the confidence to rock up at my local club without knowing anyone. I'm rubbish like that. But think I'd find it more enjoyable than just bashing.
  13. Been trying to look for inserts on Modelsport site, but when clicking on inserts, then buggy, it seems to only narrow it down to 1/8th scale but there seems to be a couple of 1/10ths in there. Am thinking of getting some Schumacher Blue Minispikes, anyone recommend some suitable foams? There's hard, medium etc and I'm not sure what to go for with my 1/10th buggy. Just looking to razz around at the moment, not racing or anything. The foams were full of water and dirtier than a badgers ballbag. Thanks.
  14. Great, thanks guys. For some reason my buggy was insanely fast at the weekend, popping wheelies easily, even when it was already doing say 20 mph, pulling the trigger further and it just went skywards! Same battery, same everything. I let my dad have a go who lost control several times and both tyres came off when he crashed and kept the throttle pinned when upside down.
  15. Had both rear tyres detach themselves yesterday. Rather than buying tyre adhesive can I not just use Superglue to bond them back to the wheels? While I'm on about tyres, when replacing them, do I also need to replace the foams, or can I reuse the old ones? I'm thinking of getting some new ones but the massive choice of foams confused me. Thanks.
  16. Ah I see! Pretty obvious when you think about it, thanks for clearing that up guys.
  17. Hi guys, When I connect my flat 2S Lipo to my charger, it said 6.88V. Shouldn't it say approx 3.4v which is what the lipo cut off stops the car at? I have noticed this with another battery too which is flat as a pancake. It then goes up to around 8.4 v when charging and then beeps and flashes 'fully charged'. How come it charges up to 8.4v when it's only a 7.4v battery? The charger is a Core UAC50. Cheers.
  18. I wouldn't buy a Losi 22 for bashing. I guess you can bash anything but that's a race weapon really and not designed for that. Does it have to be a buggy?
  19. Thanks for your advice Si. Much appreciated.
  20. Thanks Si, will go for that then. Looking at the pics of that Etronix system, do the different coloured wires that go from the ESC to the motor need soldering to the motor cables or are they just a pushfit type thing. Looks like they just push on but I'm not sure as I know zip about electrics.... Is my 2S, 3900 mah, 25C Overlander battery ok for that system do you think. I also have a 2500 mah one that came with my Edge. Any ideas on pinion size? Think the stock RS2 is a 19T.
  21. You need to take that somewhere bigger and let it rip then film it!
  22. Thanks for that. Think I'm going to go for the Etronix system. Noticed they do four versions, so in terms of driving, will the Etronix 9.0R which is 4370 kv be quicker or slower than the Etronix 13.0 R which is 3000kv?
  23. The RS2 Speed Passion is only
  24. Hi Si, just curious why the Etronix one is more gentle, or presumably slower. I'm currently looking at some electrics to put in a Speed Passion RS2 Roller, and am thinking of buying that Etronix system you linked to. But why is that Ebay one less gentle? It's a 3500kv as opposed to the Etronix's 4500kv. I'm a bit baffled by kv ratings. Some huge trucks use low kv ratings, like 2200, yet some people put high kv rating systems in that are mega fast. I can't quite figure it out! Basically, is a high kv faster or slower than a low kv, or is it not that simple.
