1. Hi, L&L models have some interesting bodyshells available but can't find feedback of buyers or how they look painted. Anyone has experience with them?
2. Assembled, took more time shimming and eliminating friction On the truck , visually, there's virtually no difference although being a brand new axle. Also, got rid of the helicoil threads. Was a bit of work, putting all of them and not always were strong as I thought . The panhard screw was always loose.
3. Molotow? I forgot to share the 1:1 grille:
4. All black and the logo was done with a silver Sharpie... Sorry guys...I'm turning going stock again
5. Saw 1:1 LCs with a different grille and copied them to 3D print in resin...Already printed the V1 and looks amazing. This photo is the V2 with cosmetic improvements :
6. Thanks! I'm not at that level of working tire valves :) they are M1 screws, in a hole threaded at an angle. Cut to size and to finish, a drop of black nail varnish to simulate the cap. Pretty happy with how the whole wheels turned out (except being 6 holes)
7. Tried something different and mounted a 17.5t sensored brushless I had for a while . It's a LRP so it should be good. Tried a 2s and seems that low RPMs are nice and there's no cogging . The problem was that the motor was so close of the servo that the sensor plug wouldn't fit...So I've returned to the old idea of having the servo next to the motor and did this new mount: Holds the servo, will hold the front of the body and is also the spacer for the gearbox. I think it looks cleaner
8. Major disappointment Built the wheels around these hubs although they were 6 holes. While mounting a wheel, the nut went through .Upon closer inspection, hubs are bad designed as the nut tightens against a section that's only 0.4mm thick and have nothing behind. Quality hubs wouldn't have that problem..live and learn(to not go after Aliexpress specials...) , I suppose. Why didn't I've made my own 5 hole hubs? machining the 12mm hex shaped hole is the most challenging part to do.But,it doesn't need an hex, so designed my own hubs but for pin, machined from brass Did the printed prototypes and lost 6mm on wheel to wheel width! (By the way, the M3 threads come out pretty good, considering the size..used a tap to clean them though) Still bummed for not thinking of this before making the wheels. 5 bolt wheels would be perfect
9. The 3D printed rims served their purpose so machined a set in aluminium They were machined on a lathe and drilled on a drill press. There's a thin 12mm hex mount behind(5 bolts instead of 6 😞 ) and M2.5 scale bolts holding everything. The "hubs" are an eBay special that I've ordered for the Unimog but there stands out too much. I think it sits well here. I'm aiming for the stock TOYOTA steelie so they are painted silver. A fellow builder challenged to do the valve stems as a joke. Was something I didn't consider before and went for it. Nothing fancy, just M1 bolts with painted tips
10. Not all are roses. Wait for developments in this soap opera 🙂 . I can tell that the gearbox looked promising but I didn't like the bores on the gears being 0.10 or 0.15mm bigger than they should. Doesn't seem much but in a 5mm hole, it's a lot. That play over all those gears, really adds up in the end. Machined 2 shafts oversized in the middle and the correct size for bearings at the ends. Then, there's the mounting issue. There's 2 holes each side. The problem with the holes is that there's little material around them and they are just 3mm deep. You stick a slightly longer screw and it hits a gear inside. I've put epoxy around them and even applied helicoils with no luck . I think that the best way for a builder is to make a steel plate to be between the motor and the motor plate, and that plate be welded or screwed to the chassis.
11. Eheh... Thanks! It is been a great experience, that's for sure
Amazing, how's the articulation with the radius arms?
How about all this flex? Honestly, I was expecting less. Seems enough for the type of truck The first choice for gearbox was the gearbox from the KingKong CA10. Is an affordable gearbox with scale looks and nice features: 18.2:1 ratio, wide steel gears, aluminium motor plate and full bearings. The only bad thing about it is that it's shape( with motor) is not builder friendly. Needs a bit of tinkering to make it work on a chassis. This is the third chassis I put this on. First experience with servo location and it's mount doubles as front body mount This is what I'm aiming for:
12. Thanks! I have the perfect job to do this kind of things. And during the day, half of my brain is thinking about RCs 🙂 Thought a lot on how the front suspension will be and because of the gearbox chosen, the best option was to copy the 1:1 and do radius arms! I just did a compromise to have front shock towers to use this nice pair of shocks instead of the springs on the frame The 3D printer was useful to mock up the mounts and even the arms and had those laser cut afterwards and threaded for the rod ends . The mounts are 2 pieces of 10x30 steel tubing shaped to look like axle mounts. The bushings are servo rubber bushings. Every modeller has plenty laying around Unpainted, they stand out too much, a bit of black would help. The extra "fin" on one of them is to shape for the panhard mount And because I want a bit of performance on this truck, did this panhard mount out of brass 😛 . Brass is like stickers, it adds performance
13. Hi! Some time ago, my buddy TheGamer sent me a nice Killerbody LC70 loaded with extras. Not related to this particular event but shout-out to him, one of the few people I can call a friend :). Was happy and surprised to get a LC70 because always wanted one but I had nothing clear in mind for it,besides knowing that wouldn't be "hardcore" Gambled on these Austar 1.55s and were a pleasant surprise. A 90x24mm tire, super affordable, sidewalls with many details and a soft compound? to top it off, they don't seem knockoff of a know brand tire(correct me if I'm wrong) Next, ordered Yota II axles and designed a set of narrow 1.55 wheels to allow the wheels being tucked inside the body. Stuck on the idea of rear leafs like the real ones Start tinkering with frame rail design and laser cut these . A RC4WD Hammer found it's place here
14. I have a sensored LRP x20 17.5t on my carisma and already goes pretty fast on dirt. Can't imagine a 7.5t
15. Thanks! 3D printing is an awesome tool. Cost of entry is not that expensive and you can make things, from simple scale accessories, spare parts and custom parts suited to your needs. FDM is more versatile and easier to use and there's resin printing that can make super detailed prints(but there's fumes and smells, not recommended to use inside the house). These axles would be perfect with laser sintering but it's too expensive but there's no worries about layer orientation
16. Time for change... One thing I think I needed to improve in this truck is the front axle width. Wheels stick out from the fenders and there's too much scrub radius from the added width of the portal boxes, making the tires rub So I've gather some parts and made new portal boxes: Yes, they look the same ,albeit being made from scratch instead of copying the old ones. I'm using a 12t portal gear and universal shafts from Capra. The big gear is the same 25t 32dp pinion but inverted(The section where the grub screw is fits perfectly on a 10x15x4 bearing! Each portal box measures 5,5mm less than the old ones which is great. I could also narrow the axle housing if needed, but that would not solve the scrub radius problem Printed and mounted, match the estimate of 11mm narrower axle. Doesn't seem much but is very noticeable with the cab. Also redone the axle housing with a change on a driveshaft bearing position to fit the new Capra uni shafts Old vs new:
17. I don't like snakes but I'm curious. I know there's a lot of lethal snakes but this one doesn't seem like one. Old folks around here like to kill snakes at sight but can't really justify why. They are good pets?
18. And the pets that are not with us anymore. These black twins were amazing. Really gentle cats that came on demand. Just needed to whistle. We had them for a while. One disappeared without a trace, the other one came home with trouble breathing. vet said it had a ruptured diaphragm, most likely someone kicked him . The surgery would cost a lot with no certain chance of success. We had to put him down. Just to say that awful people exist everywhere... d Their mother was a beautifull long haired black cat that was basically house's guard dog. She followed us to neighbours and wait outside until we get back. Didn't like to be pet or held but couldn't resist a good blanket on a sofa The dog was a friendly, cute dog . Miss him greeting me at the gate or coming home to lunch and that poor ******* waiting for me,sitting there on the rain, dripping wet. Was far from obedient but was a good company
19. Thanks a lot! I really enjoyed doing it Some of you already saw this video: I confess that making videos is not my favourite thing to do. I know that no one forces me to do them but a good video is time consuming and the truth is that I just can drive about 2 times a year....but if the video creates the right illusion, makes me happy and I hope other people like it too. Along with photos, it's a good way to show the work. (not everyone likes to see photos of half done trucks on a bench 🙂 ) Changed the battery from under the bed to a more practical location
20. The white cat is named Maru like the youtube cat that loved to get into boxes. This one can't resist a box even though he's a 6.5kg big boi The gray cat was a gentle cat that appeared at our house and we thought that was a stray cat. No, it belonged to a family living about 300m from us. It had marks of not being well treated(and has the size of a young cat) . Former owner knew where it was. Didn't show any interest on getting it back neither the cat. Don't know if there's such a thing like a bipolar cat but this one can be the most gentle and attention craving cat but can start biting and scratching without notice. I think he never learned how to play properly
21. Sound is always on a different track on the video editor, but was not slowed down. That involves a lot of cuts and moving around
22. While I was in a roll also modified the portal covers, making them stronger without messing much with the look. Middle axle printed: Third axle Because the offset diff of the third axle, had to do new unequal shafts Middle axle in place with the driveshaft bearing carrier Assembled... Wiring is a mess but is a problem for another day
23. Anyone remember these? http://www.ssd-rc.com/d60-axle-case-for-scx10.html I need one to complete the set but can't find it anynore since they were discontinued .Anyone has one laying around?
24. Modified axles to fit the new transfer case. On top is the 3rd axle, with the pumpkin offset 15mm so the driveshaft doesn't work in a awkward angle. On bottom, the middle axle already without the output shaft on the rear side and with the bearing carrier integrated. That carrier uses 2 bearings and a 5mm shaft with a ticker middle section as the spacer Mockup of these 2 axles: Printed transfer case halves (ASA)
25. This is the right section to do a build thread of this? is not a tank but a tracked cargo vehicle
