Kyosho GS11X pull start issue?

Hi .. I am 67 and retired - a lifelong model plane builder - used to be nitro now all electric ...Just finished a scratch built 1/10th scale 2 seat Spitfire

I have never owned a nitro car but during lockdown I have been fettling all kinds of stuff in my workshop and recently my son in law produced a car from his loft for me to ‘play’ with ...

it was a Land Ranger like this one ..

Kyosho GS11X motor with a pull starter .. Appvalley

that’s a new concept to me ..

Everything is fine - stripped it down and cleaned it all - 27mhz radio works fine - engine seems clean and turns well  ..

BUT .. the pull starter had no string in it ..

went to YouTube and learned how to restring and done that with high strength 1mm kite string  and it pulls a treat but doesn’t want to recoil.

it works absolutely fine off the motor and recoils well - but on the backplate it has this non-recoil issue - engine plug is out too to reduce compression ...
I suspected  that the knot was catching on the backplate screws so put a spacer washer in - no difference ..

Very little info out there on GS11X or GS pull start - any replacements available anywhere ..??
Mine is a GS with a red casing and a red reel inside .. Tweakbox

Any ideas ??

Perhaps even refer me to someone else or A N Other place??

thanks

Hi there. Have you put the one-way bearing in facing the correct direction?  Or there are plenty of options for you out there should you wish to try something different. You could go on ebay and buy a 1/10 scale pull start and take a chance or measure the hole centres around the casing and measure the oneway bearing (most likely 12mm) as some vary in size.  Another option is a roto start. Where you can use an electric starter or lastly a starter box where you put car on top, push down onto a starter wheel inside of the box.
