oodboo
I am doing the Total Warrior tomorrow. The Total Warrior is billed as the toughest 10K on Earth. That's a pretty big claim but having done it last year I can certainly say it's not a walk in the park. I am doing this to raise funds towards a specialist buggy for my disabled son. At the moment he has a buggy which is only really useable on smooth, flat surfaces. It's fine round the metrocentre but we can't take him out in the woods. The buggy we want also works as a bike trailer so we would also be able to take him out for rides. We're an active family but at the moment we can't get out as a family. Getting this buggy would mean a great deal to us and allow us to enjoy getting out together. If you would like make a donation, you can do so here:www.gofundme.com/johnbrown More about the total warrior: http://www.totalwarrior.co.uk/ And finally something about the buggy we want to buy: http://reha.bogetec.de/index.php/kangoo-classic.html Got photos from last year if anyone wants to see them

oodboo
Before: What a great way to spend a wet afternoon in the lakes It wasn't easy. I'm not a fit bloke and weigh in at around 17st so it was good to go at the pace of the slowest member of the group. Some of the obstacles are easy enough to get over on your own but others require teamwork. The course starts with a run up and down a steep hill and this helps spread the group out. After that there's the first obstacle, the human bbq, jump over a fire landing waist deep in water. A short climb later and you reach the next obstacle. Can't remember the name but it's a series of raised poles to get over (about chest high) and under (about thigh high). I slipped off one of the higher ones and landed quite badly knocking the wind out of me. Got up carried on. I think there was a series of walls to get over next, these were about chest high and I managed these easily enough but the women seemed to struggle so a bit teamwork got us all over these. Any remember all the obstacles so I'll stick to the highlights. A few stream crossings later, some you swim/wade, others are just knee deep but the rocky bed makes them pretty treacherous. There's a few obstacles where you find yourself crawling under barbed wire in deep mud. Not too bad but made a lot worse by the rough rocks under the mud sctratching and cutting your hands, elbows and knees. There's a couple of tunnels as well, one made of tyres (very uncomfortable) and one long smooth pipe (very slippery). These tended to drop you out into deep mud. Wading through knee deep mud can be tiring, wading through waist deep mud can be almost impossible. I was pulling the person's leg out in front of me and someone behind me was pulling my leg out. Eventually we got through but a few people left shoes behind. Various other obstacles involved my wife climbing up me to get over. Fortunately I seemed to manage all but one of these on my own. The one I struggled with was an overhanging climbing wall type thing. I got the others up and over then tried to get over myself. I grabbed my mates hand at the top but when I tried to pull myself up I slipped and fell. Landed with a bit of a thump but some bloke behind me helped me get over. On it went with more pain and punishment, carrying logs up and down hills, rolling them under cargo nets, ice baths and so on. I think my favourite obstacle was the water slide though. With my seal like build I seemed to slide faster and further than most The final obstacle, hang tough (monkey bars made of quite a long ladder) was the one I had been doing a bit training for. I can bare my weight and get across monkey bars but by the time I got there I just didn't have much energy left and couldn't get the rhythm. I made it half way though so I was pleased with that. Then it was time to get across the finish line and get my t shirt. After: Huge thanks for the donations guys. It's been a great but exhausting day. Let's see if I can still move tomorrow! I'll put some more photos up as I get them. Edited August 2, 2014 by oodboo
