The Dark Knight
Well that's my Schumacher Mi5 and Team Associated TC4 both sold. The Team Durango has still not been released yet so this has left me without a touring car. So far at the local club I have been racing my touring and GT12 but finding myself enjoying the touring car indoors more and more so I just had to get another one whilst waiting for the Team Durango. I looked at all the latest kits but eventually settled on the 3Racing Sakura XI Sport, mainly due the price of it but I have also had a go of one of my mates Sakura Zero S which I was impressed with. The stock tyres actually feel like a nice usable compound but are on the heavy side at 32g per wheel compared to my Sorex 28's which are only 22g per wheel. I've assembled most of the kit already, just the shocks to build and fit a different spur gear. I assemble the kit using a Yeah Racing titanium bolt kit and the optional floating servo mount. I need to tidy up the wiring a bit and find somewhere to stick the cap. I'm also running a Wild Turbo Fan. For the money, it is a great bit of kit and went together very nicely. First race should be this Sunday. Here's some photos of it so far: Edited December 9, 2013 by The Dark Knight
PurcyP
For the money it is what it is, and its been popular, plus when you do get your team durango it will feel even better since the quality jump will be rather massive lol

I'll see how it drives, might not bother with the Team Durango if I'm happy with this. I was really surprised how nice the kit is.

If it drives anything like the Zero S, I'll be happy

The Dark Knight
haha a wise man indeed fair play to ya keep us updated with pics too Will do dude More photos for you already, before I sold my Mi5 I had already painted a body shell, bad thing is the body mount holes for the front are in different places so I have two sets of holes at the front. But saves me buying and painting another body shell though. Also tried on the kit wheels, I might try them out just out of interest. I tried to be more minimalistic with the stickers on this one, "less is more" and all that
ratman
What shell is that? Those wheela look.good
The Dark Knight
What shell is that? Those wheela look.good It's a Bitty Design Striker-SR 2.0. The wheels are growing on me but as I've already said, they're 10g heavier per wheel than my Sorex wheels, so that's 40g of un-needed weight plus it is rotating weight so will have a big effect on performance. bluepoolshark35
The shell looks great! I found some build tips for this model on 3racing Facebook page so will use those along with the manual! Going to order the same extras as you also

The Dark Knight
Has anyone any suggestions as to where I place the esc cap? I was thinking about taping it to the side of the esc but there is a risk of it getting knocked off. I've also thought about tie-wrapping it to the sensor or motor wires. PurcyP
you dont have much room to play with do you. if you can tie wrap it to the edge of your top deck then can do that or well, on top of the top deck anyway as it wont effect flex or as you said tie it to the motor/sensor wires so it sits on top
Richard.S
i just zip tie mine the the motor or battery wires.
Quantra
When I had a car with belts I'd stick the cap to the side of the ESC so it would sit between the belts.
The Dark Knight
Thanks for the advice guys, I've tie wrapped the cap to two of the motor wires and the sensor wire, I'm reasonably happy with the set-up just now. I'm after another bit of advice please regarding the WTF (Wild Turbo Fan), should it be sucking or blowing air? I presume blowing air towards the motor?
Richard.S
I have mine blowing on the motor but have it positioned between the esc and motor so its not fighting the natural airflow through the car. What have you got yours wired to? i blew mine up wiring it direct to the esc.
PurcyP
You need the fan to be blowing air onto the motor not sucking it away id usually have mine between the ESC and motor like Richard as it works along side natural airflow, but space does not allow! however it does also work just fine with the fan positioned at the rear, just not as efficiently. Also my WTF fan worked fine either plugged in to the RX or soldered directly to the pos n neg of my ESC
The Dark Knight
The kit comes with a mount which you can fit either 30mm or 40mm fans to with a hole pre-drilled in the chassis. Mine is plugged into the rx, hope that's ok? The WTF came with an extension cable to do this.
PurcyP
Yeah plugging in the RX is fine but you need the fan turned around so its blowing air towards the motor, no good keeping your rear shock tower and drive shafts cold now is there lol i jest
The Dark Knight
haha, thank Mr P, I'll turn my WTF around
Richard.S
Do you run boosted purcy? It ran fine wired direct when running blinkey - as soon as i went 6.5t boosted it fried the fans pcb. PurcyP
Yea 13.5t boosted it was fine also what fan was it, should be able to take 8+ volts
Richard.S
WTF 40mm - would the extra current draw when boost kicks in have not have an effect?
PurcyP
Yeah possibly, can vary from ESC due to BEC's capacitors etc etc
