scrumpy jack
Hi chaps, never posted in the crawling section before, but have recently been enjoying playing some rock crawler games on my pc enough to want an rc one to mess about with. I really only want something to play with in the living room with my lad so im thinking a micro/mini one. Have been looking at the little losi's mainly the 1/24 truck. Im interested in this scale as part of the appeal for me would be to have a scale looking truck and I know theres 1/24 plastic models that I could use the bodys off to build a scale micro crawler maybe? The crawler doesnt have to be brilliant at crawling, as long as it will go over a few lego bricks and books etc that would be great. Suggestions please :-)
Gaz!
Losi micro is the popular choice but there is some qrc (I think) from Hong Kong for around
ReggieC
I was looking at smaller scale crawlers too, would be a lot easier to use indoors! Have only been able to find the losi's in my searches though Edited December 3, 2014 by ReggieC
mini-z-awd
you can also get the redcat sumo but its pricey on shipping http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Redcat-Racing-Sumo-Crawler-GREEN-1-24-Scale-RC-Electric-Crawler-2-4GHz-/390972627829?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item5b07c8db75 or this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HBX-2098B-1-24-4WD-Mini-RC-Climber-Crawler-Metal-Chassis-/271691874209?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item3f4218ffa1 this one is pretty close to the losi one even the chassis looks the same http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HBX-2098B-1-24-4WD-Mini-RC-Climber-Crawler-Metal-Chassis-/271691874209?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item3f4218ffa1 never tried either one but i have had a few losi`s and there really good Edited December 3, 2014 by mini-z-awd

scrumpy jack
Thanks for the info guys, I did stumble over that redcat sumo, but the chassis doesnt look very nice, I do want something I can make as scale looking as possible, which I know is a tall order for a micro! scrumpy jack
Those HBX look quite nice, can you get spares for them though? And as mentioned earlier a little pricey, especially if you get hit with import duties ordering from US as well.
mini-z-awd
just had a quick look on gogole and i could`nt see any spares but i did it cheaper on banggood http://www.banggood.com/HBX-2098B-124-4WD-Mini-RC-ClimberCrawler-Metal-Chassis-p-932834.html
scrumpy jack
So I have ordered one of these for a bit of fun, as it was cheap enough: http://www.banggood.com/HSP-94480-124-RC-Offroad-Mini-Climber-p-928462.html I have read that it will handle a small 2s lipo so will order a couple of these, I think they should fit: http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/__34369__Turnigy_nano_tech_180mah_2S_25_40C_Lipo_Pack_UK_Warehouse_.html I'm also planning to make it as scale as possible, so may grab one of these 1:24 models (no idea if this will fit though!) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271693640634?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I do need a bit of help at finding a connector to go from the lipo jst type connector to the esc on the crawler- this is a picture of the standard battery and esc of the crawler: http://www.banggood.com/HSP-94480-124-Mini-ClimberCrawler-4_8V-150mAh-Ni-MH-Battery-p-938082.html http://www.banggood.com/HSP-94480-124-Climbing-Car-Recever-ESC-p-936330.html I thought it was the same type of connector as used by the losi micro's, but it does look different, so any help in identifying it would be a great help. I also think I would like to make up some custom metal suspension linkages for it as well, for this I assume I need some sort of threaded rod and rod ends...but not really sure what I should be looking at there, so any thoughts appreciated. mini-z-awd
that lipo will work i used the same ones and fitted micro deans onto both the battery and esc and that body will work aswell but you will need to extend the wheels base a wee bit i used the same body on mine but sorry to say i have no pics of it though my mate now has the body in his hands. if you want it to fit it you can use the same side body mounts and then get something like a peice of 3-4mm lexan and make some mounts up and glue them on the inside of the body and it will hold the body really good also just glue the rear bed onto the back of the cab with some strong glue
scrumpy jack
Thanks. Good to hear the lipo will be okay, and the body is a pretty close fit as well. They actually sell a brass scale chassis kit that looks nice http://www.banggood.com/HSP-124-DIY-Climbing-car-Simulation-Frame-Set-p-933015.html although I may be tempted to have a go at making my own as I don't want to spend a lot of money on this as I've never had a crawler before, but hopefully it should keep me entertained when it's to cold outside to run my LST.
