  1. Totally understand that....its really tough to diagnose without the car in front of you.
  2. Yorkshire based, Doncaster home, Rotherham work.
  3. I found the receiver and the bind socket on the car, but have no idea where to find the bind plug. I really do not recall ever seeing one...... But i was wondering - should the LED on the receiver at least be lighting up? There is nothing there at all and wonder if its possible the receiver has packed in? would this be likely mid use? Ive read it might be possible to replicate the bind plug with tweezers so can try that at least but otherwise expect i may need a new receiver - Im not seeing these anywhere on the usual sites so may have turn to ebay. I was wondering though also, when I power the car on the little fan spins on top of the receiver, but the brushless motor is not on at all - should that be going round as well ...could this be the problem? The only sign the car is powered on is that little fan thing. Ive never not had the controller not connect to the car before, so know when Ive carried out repairs before and turned on the car the motor is always on..... Just trying to pinpoint the parts I might need to buy to get this thing running again Thanks in advance, I know this is probably noddy stuff but I really havent much of a clue and its not my little lads hobby - he adores this stuff
  4. Yeah I saw this in the manual but our outlaw's receiver looks nothing like this one. It was only bought about 16 months ago so may have been updated
  5. Thanks, I had no idea there was such a thing. I'll take a look tonight. Oddly I do not think the car has a bind socket on the receiver.....but again I'll check tonight.
  6. Cheers, yeah its centred ok, theres just absolutely no connection to the car. In terms or rebinding, is this a case of just holding the 'bind' button on the controller? Ive tried all sorts like that but nothing is happening. I thought it might be the motor being burnt out (with it happening during heavy use) however given the steering doesnt work either I think its more a connection/signal issue
  7. Hi all, Im looking for a little diagnostic help. My son has the brushless model. The other day it cut out whilst off roading at speed. Now the controller will not connect to the car. The battery is charged, there are new batteries in the controller and that usual 'beep' on turning it on is not there. Literally nothing happens. The solid red light and green light on the controller are on, and the red light next to the on switch on the car is on. The little 'fan' is going like the clappers, but the motor isnt turning at all, and the steering doesnt work. There is literally no reaction to the controller at all. anyone had this before? My lad thinks he needs an ESC - but Im wondering if it might be something else? I only replaced the middle axle last week and put a new gear wheel in that the motor connects to to turn the wheels. Any tips would be very welcome. I have repaired this car so many times, and have no issue taking the thing to bits but when it comes to the electronics I'm a bit stumped.
  8. He's reasonable, the Rc's he has at the moment are not super powered like this one seems to be so its definitely a step up. The outlaw he has might do 35mph on a good day, and whilst we have some scrapes and some smashes on the whole hes pretty good with them. Really going for the Traxxas as I heard they can take a good bit of punishment too, but no doubt I'll be buying parts in no time 😉
  9. Absolutely and given my son isnt an expert on the other brands they will not have that initial 'wow' of a traxxas as daft as that seems. Thank you for your input - its been a massive help. One final question. Ive been looking at some bundles for it..... 2 options 1. the car and a 3s battery and charger - at £721 2. the car and a 4s battery and charger - at £836 Is the 4s really that much better?
  10. This is very helpful - thank you. My lad has some very basic Liop batteries - I think around 5000mah and 3200 and whatever came with his Maverick. We have very average chargers too - nothing he has to date has cost a deal tbh so this is the first foray into a more serious unit. I know he loves watching youtube videos of Xmaxx's getting thrown through their paces by the crazy loons over the pond, and loves it so i sense he would be thrilled to have something by Traxxas. I appreciate fully I am going to be overpaying for the brand. But to answer your questions I do not believe the batteries and chargers we currently have will be up to the task on the wide maxx and was planning to get a bundle including either the 4s or 3s traxxas battery with associated charger. I know its going to cost a fortune unfortunately. Sadly I would not be confident at all in changing the connectors.....Ive had a fair job on changing broken chassis's on what he has now, and installing new drive shafts, and all sorts. I'll have a look at the MT10 Thanks again for your valued help 🙂
  11. He's just going to hammer it around our local area, through the woods, do some jumps etc
  12. Novice here looking for a little advice from an expert My son is 13 and RC mad, you name it he's into it - Boats, helicopters, planes, drones, cars etc He started with a maverick phantom (which is still running after god knows how many new parts and repairs by dad) and then went to an Outlaw Fox (again still running after numerous repair jobs) Both cars have had some fair use. His Birthday is coming and I wanted to upgrade him to a better made car that may take a little more punishment and also give him a better experience. The cars he has are great but its time to up the level. I have narrowed it down to a Traxxas Widemaxx or a traxxas Hoss - although im the first to admit i really have no idea about these things at all outside of a little internet reading. Both are roughly the same price point - looking a little north of £700 with the super battery. Can anyone offer any advice on which one to go with? Thanks in advance Paul
