  1. I figured the footage wouldn't be amazing, hence why the very cheap camera. If I get a few good shots, great. If not, then I haven't spent heaps. I'll have a dig around. Thanks.
  2. Hi all, I've been looking for a camera for an onboard view in my RC truck for a while now, but the list of available mini cams just seems to be endless. I'm wanting something VERY cheap, no frills. It doesn't need to transmit for FPV or anything like that. Just simple onboard recording to watch back later, and it doesn't need to be super high quality image either. It's purely for a bit of fun. Has anyone got a recommendations? Thanks very much.
  3. Anyone tried different body shells on the outlaw? (Besides the obvious other FTX bodies. Zorro etc.) I'm loving the lasernut body. I'd love to get that to fit. Also interested to see what customisations folks have done. I've already dropped the poly parts on mine.
  4. I would say you need a metal spur too. The harder pinion will eat plastic worse than the soft brass pinion did. You'll later likely need a metal motor mount and CVD too, as the metal gears put more strain on surrounding parts.
  5. Yeah I skimmed the thread and watched the videos. Seems its a fixerupper for sure, but I like a bit of engineering and love the style of it, so couldn't resist. I'm sure it'll be all metal by autumn. I always check the nuts and screw. A lot of my past cars had a habit of trying to rattle themselves to pieces. Thanks
  6. I've got one of these on the way (brushless). Quick question... Is it worth stripping it back and checking for grease/oil levels, or are FTX good for QC?
  7. On the subject of Lipo safety, what are the current (pardon the pun) best rated battery safes/bags/boxes? I'm not usually a paranoid person, but I live in a fairly compact first floor flat, with no shed/garage/outdoor storage access (beyond an unsheltered balcony). I also have a 2 year old daughter, so i'm keen to avoid recreating some Grenfell disaster while charging/storing lipos. I did a search, but nothing concrete came up. I've seen people using ammo boxes, so i was thinking store the bats in individual small lipo bags, in an ammo box on the balcony (while away, at work, etc.)? The only issue being, sealing it against the elements without creating a metal bomb!?! Anyone had a run in with a disgruntled battery? Anyone in a similar living situation and found a good solution? Thanks.
  8. The carnage does look pretty good, and the price is just right. It also lead me onto another FTX. The FTX Outlaw brushless. Love the desert buggy style, though it's design doesn't look the toughest. Seems to have lots of upgrade potential though. Anyone had experience with these? I've seen polarized opinions on this one. It's either tough as steel or soft as jelly, depending on who you ask. And thanks Lorrylemming and Nitroholic for the list and breakdown, respectively. I'm weighing up a couple on that list too.
  9. Thanks all. Lot's to think about and look at. Just to answer a few points, and I should have specified before. 4x4 would be ideal. I used to have a 2wd and it was a nightmare for getting beached on clumps of grass, sticks, etc. Great fun on dusty tracks and tarmac, but for all round terrain, it was tough going. Also I fully expect to break the car at some stage and don't mind buying parts, here and there, so a slightly "weaker" car, that is fast and fun, is no problem. I'm not bad on the controls, so hopefully won't total it immediately! 😆 Size likewise isn't a concern. I like small cars for their agility and portability and I like the big cars for their strength, and ability to manage larger obstacles. Thankfully I live next to a decent wild Park, so transport isn't a problem. Sadly I've been racing around the last couple of days, chasing my toddler who just discovered tantrums, so apologies for the slow response and not looking over the specs of the linked cars thoroughly yet. I'll take a proper look at everything tomorrow. Thanks again, guys.
  10. Sorry. Totally missed your comment (I'm on mobile and it got hidden by an ad) Not really. I have a really old slow charger from a 90's tamiya truck somewhere, but not even sure it would work anymore. The only others I have are USB type slow chargers. So long as the car has a bat and some basic way to charge, I could always buy a better charging system and extra bats at a later date. I'm not expecting anything utterly bulletproof or groundbreaking. Just something that isn't going to die after a few months and something that has access to spares/upgrades. I just don't fully trust all the youtube hype for these cheaper cars (£80 - £120). I bought a "budget" car based on these videos and it turned out to be pretty poor and died super fast from basic, careful use. I've got it going again, but I doubt it'll last.
  11. Have you tried all of these cars? Any recommendations on particular cars? Are you recommending these purely because they are at the right price point, or are they particularly good examples of cars at this price? The Traxxas Rustler is a nice looking truggy. Anyone have experience of that particular car? Thanks again.
  12. Hi all, New and not sure if there is a special place for requests like this, but here goes... I'm looking at getting a new RC car, preferably a truggy. (though I'm open to other off-road types) Not looking to race or anything. Just looking for a tough knockaround that is fast and fun and can handle some muck. And maybe something with good spares/upgrade access. Top budget is £200, so i might be asking a lot here? I've been trawling youtube videos for days, and seeing a lot of varying opinions on the same cars. Also not 100% sure who to trust. As some seem they might be getting kickbacks for positive reviews. I'm totally lost now! I've seen a lot about WLToys buggies, but is it mostly hype? Anyone got hands-on experience of a particularly great budget car they can recommend?
  13. Thanks Gampla. I'll take a look. Not going to bother with new tyres on this now, as i don't think it's worth pouring too much money into it. I might be getting a better hobby grade car soon anyway, or repairing/upgrading my old Chevy S10.
  14. Hi all, New here and needing some help. I recently bought a cheapo brushless 1/18 car to introduce my daughter to RC. The HS 18421 (essentially a knock off of the letrax teton chassis). It's great fun, but it's shocks and tyres are awful. I knew this going in, but I read it was an easy car to upgrade/buy spares for. Sadly I'm not finding parts that easy to source. I especially want to get some damper shocks. They need to be 60mm hole to hole and I'd love plenty of travel. In fact if there is some hs18421/teton experts who can recommend a full list of upgrades, that would be awesome! I've been out of the hobby for years. I used to race a tamiya S10, way back when physical hobby shops were still a thing! So I've no idea where to source parts these days. Thanks for any help you folks can offer. P.s. I'm UK based, so reasonable delivery to UK or UK based would be a bonus, thanks.
