  1. Yeah, I'll second that. Traxxas is good for bashing and will be robust. As and when you want you could go for a mamba Max (Brushless system) £90 "delivered" from B-P-P.com and will do 40mph + I would recomend upgrading the wheels bushings to bearings (about £10).
  2. If the model is in stock you should have it tomorrow. I bought my Rustler from Modelsport and have been very pleased with it. PLEASE take my advise and check the wheel nuts are tight before you run it though. My front wheel came off due to a loose wheel nut, but that is no reflection on the rest of the build quality which has been fine.

    Demolition Derby!

That is the craziest racing I've ever seen!! Those cars look tough as well.
  4. The Traxxas Bandit will be fairly robust and I think a good 'bashing' car for £130. I have a Rustler (similar chassis to bandit) and am pleased with it, regarding spares I haven't needed any yet as they are hard to break. You can always put a faster motor / or brushless system if you need more power. If you think there is a chance you will want to race competitively on off road tracks then I agree with above. If you still want Ready to Run then try Associated RC10 B4 RS RTR as it is only £175.00 and comes with a pretty good motor to start with.
  5. In my experience I have had realy good service from UK LHS (ModelsportUK and Fusion Hobbies). However, I recently had a bad experience with another LHS not so far away from me. I ordered a speed control on line. It was not clear if the part was out of stock - at least it didn't say it was. I waited for over 3 weeks and had no timing on when the order would be fullfilled. I even asked if they had any similar products for sale (as I wasn't that fussy on make/model) but still no response. In the end I cancelled my order and probably wont use that LHS again. By way of contrast I recently ordered some parts from an American company on line. When I was told 2 days after I placed my order that they were realy sorry there was a going to be a delay of 1 week before they could ship the product and they offered me a 10% refund if I waited a week and didn't cancel my order. In short, you realy get the impression that they are realy grateful for your custom not something always experienced with LHS's. There's my rant.
  6. Hi, How did you figure out it is like 7.5 turn? The LRP Vector 6.5 runs at 6900Kv I think - therefore I thought it would be more like a 6.5.

    Demolition Derby!

Yes I agree there is something a little 'wrong' about mindlessly smashing up good stuff. But if its your own personal property and it doesn't hurt anyone else then I don't think its quite in the same league as vandalism. I despise vandalism as I see this as someone destroying/damaging someone elses property without permission. That's a big difference.
  8. Just seen your websites Sean, loved the Speed run clips. So far only got 35MPH out my Rustler with an LRP 6.5 and fairly conservative gearing... Only ever run on 6 cells though. What speed do you reckon I can get out of 6 cells on the MM 7700? - do you think it possible to get 50mph on a decent 2s lipo? Also, I am currently using a Garmin GPS to measure speed. How much can I get a cheap speed gun for? Cheers,

    Demolition Derby!

Yeah, I think I was fantasising! But hey if someone else wants to do it I would like to watch. Hey speaking of smashing things up has everyone seen..

    Demolition Derby!

Thanks Maverick, Sounds like a good set of rules to me. I thought it might be a problem getting volunteers to enter their car into such a vicious event though? A MadBull Kit is £63 so the overall damage can not possibly be silly money. I had a quick look on YouTube but couldn't see any decent clips unfortunately. Anyone got/found any clips of this? I am normally an electric RC fan, but I think this would be more impressive with Nitro's! Imagine T-Max's ramming into each other that would be funny to watch!
  11. Not sure if this has been done before? I have always been impressed with the robustness of my RC cars (Tamiya Madbull and Traxxas Rustler) and would reckon they would be good to enter into a Demolition Derby! Imagine an arena were you have to pit your RC car against other RC cars. Where you have to try and smash up the other cars and be the last one still moving (or what ever the rules are). Am I the only one that thinks this would be fun? After all, cars can be repaired can't they!
  12. No, I am using an expensive stick pack! The FTX pack with unmatched Intellect cells 4200. I may upgrade to matched cells or Lipo. One step at a time really.
  13. Yes The 101bk gets very, very hot and has thermalled on me a couple of times. But none the less performs OK 99% of the time. I have read else where that people have run 19T on the 101bk, so it is quite a tough little cookie. That 23T BZ motor has a lot of power and torque - About double the torque and RPM of the silver can so must draw quite a bit of current. I might try it on my Traxxas XL5 ESC to see if it makes any difference. Since I am getting BL for my Rustler, I may keep the XL5 ESC on the MadBull.
  14. Thanks for that. Considering it is quite a bit of hassle for me to upgrade all my stuff from Tamiya to Deans can someone please explain why it is so important? Whats the worst that can happen if you run a powerfull system on tamiya connectors? Is it possible to damage the ESC?
  15. Having read countless times that Tamiya style connectors are no good for Brushless I have ordered my self some Deans Connectors for my (on order) mamba max. However, my mate runs Corally on matched cells, I wasn't sure if I could solder these easily to stick packs so went for Deans in the end. Does it really matter if you use Deans or Corally, is there any performance difference? Ta!
  16. That's interesting, perhaps someone else can explain why? I have a Tamiya 23 Turn BZ motor running off the TEU101BK in my MadBull at the moment (which is on the limit of the ESC really) and figured it worked ok, but I have better speedo's available I could try it with. If we get any decent weather I may give it a whirl tomorrow and see if it makes any difference. Do you think it made the most difference to acceleration/punch or top speed?
  17. Yeah, your right my friend has a big advantage in that he is using a 4WD Kyosho ZX5 and that thing shifts! Maybe I am setting my sights a little high, but that said the Rusty/mamba combo looks pretty formidable on YouTube. The thing is with competition buggys they are a bit fragile... I have a Tamiya Madbull and Traxxas Rustler and those baby's just love to take abuse. My Rusty just loves the Skate Park, where as my mates ZX5 lasted about 2 mins before breaking something. Of course on the track I could not compete with a competition buggy but I was hoping I might stand a chance in a drag race!?
  18. I have ordered a MM7700 for my Traxxas Rustler, so was interested how it will compare with other motors etc... I am a basher, but my friend is a racer and has just bought a TC spec LRP controller and he's getting the Vector 5.5 turn. I wonder if I will need to sneak a couple of extra cells in to beat him in a drag race? as his ESC can only take 6 cells.
  19. Yes interesting stuff on Nic Case's record attempt... 134MPH!! You think MM7700 is quicker than Novak and LRP 3.5 Turn on 6 cells??
  20. Hi, What's the fastest 1/10 scale Brushless set up on? 1 ) 6 Cells 2 ) Whatever the ESC can take I am just talking about ultimate straight line speed here.
  21. Thanks for the Link. I was planning on using an FTX stick pack containing 6xUnmatched Intellect cells - With Deans connectors. Do you think that will be good enough? Or will it really need matched cells or Lipo to feed its thirst? Also, Castle claims that the motors are good for 1000W plus! Which is very impressive. Its a shame there aren't a few more specification details on the Mamba Max motors as I would love to know what the power would be for the MM7700 on 6 cells. I guess it is well over 500 Watts. ALso, All the other manufacturers (LRP, Novak etc..) tell you how many Turns the motor is (i.e. 4.5 etc..) But Castle don't tell you this do they?
  22. Thanks guys. Yes I can see that the high RPM will shorten the life span of the transmission - which I guess goes with the teritory when you are dealing with high RPM motors. I think I am more concerned about something breaking within the first couple of runs due to stress/shock of so much torque/power.
  23. Hi to everyone on the forum. this is my first message! I have recently got back into RC and was simply astounded by how far electric technology has moved on. Talk about fast... Before long I was looking drop jawed at Mamba-maxed Rustler's on You Tube! I have had my Rustler(XL5) for a couple of months and realy like its handling and robustness , but have really got the bug for speed!! So decided I just had to order my self a Mamba Max as these seem to be the most powerful BL motors on the market. I have already got extra ball bearings (5x8x2.5) for the wheels, steel yokes, Anaconda wheels/tyres for tarmac already in place. I will be running on 6-Cell packs with Deans Connectors. Questions: Is it true that I will need to get the Aluminium Idler gear to handle MM7700? as according to Traxxas Accessories guide you need to upgrade to a Machined Delrin Gear if you up grade to Aluminium Idler gear. Has anyone installed the Aluminiuum Idler gear/Delrin Gear? Does it make a difference/Is it realy necessary? Can't I just adjust the Slipper clutch to 'soak up' some of the initial power so I wont have to upgrade the transmission? Can anyone think of anything else obvious that I need to upgrade to make the Rustler(XL5) ready for MambaMax 7700? Thanks!!
