  1. Thanks good mate - you're a real star. I've just read the link and it appears that I must have bought it in 1989-1990 which fits with what I was doing at the time......so even older than I first thought. You've been a big help, Andrew
  2. Hi Guys, I bought a new Kyosho RC Ferrari F40 about 30-years ago and I've kept it in a box ever since - it was ran three times. I was hoping that some wise RC'er could tell me more about it please; i.e. was it a good car and what chassis etc? Pics below for reference. Thanks in advance, Andrew P.S. 30-years is a long time to remember techy stuff
  3. Guys, while I'm at it can you help advise me on the rear drive shaft and the spur gear. Spur Gear: I've been on the MS site and all they seem to have is a hardened Spur gear (pic below). Is this sufficient for an upgrade as I was hoping for a steel unit. That said there's a steel spur and pinion set on eBay for £20. What do you reckon? Rear Drive shaft: Should I buy the steel shaft from MS or is there a better unit available. I'm only asking as I've seen a robust looking drive shaft by GDS Racing on page-67/68 of this thread. Just want to make sure that I'm not buying any crap. Cheers All, Andrew
  4. Run-7: O toolbox out yesterday and somehow I bent the rear shock. I've managed to fix and refit it but I always seem to be fixing or adjusting something - which I quite enjoy, lol. I've lowered the rear suspension as the front suspension is very soft and doesn't handle at all well. I need to do something about it as it's just soft and mushy. This has definelty been a great intro buggy to RC.
  5. Thanks for posting the info up B-G, that's really good to know. All the best, Andrew
  6. Just a mobile phone - an old Samsung
  7. Team, Have any of you guys bought a 124017 yet. I watched the Tomley RC video (great presentation BTW) and I'm thinking of buying one......and at £112 from Banggood they seem good value. Not wishing to sound uncool but I had never heard of Banggood until this thread - are they OK to use? Thanks all, Andrew
  8. Cheers Iain, I'll stick it on the shopping list. Yesterday I thought I had broken my Outlaw when it got stuck in the grass. I went up to hear it cogging only to find that the rear drive shaft had been jammed by long read grass stalks - that was a lucky escape..........and a lesson learned
  9. I've spent a few hours trawling the MS site this week and one thing that I've noticed is that all the model types are captured under one section. Example: If you go to 'models-electric' or the 'off road' sections then everything is included, i.e. from tanks to snow drift machines to JCBs and 1:24th Mini models to the whole variety of RC cars. It would be nice to umbrella the non-car stuff or the tiny stuff under a different section as it's unlikely that a guy wanting a Traxxas X-Maxx will also be looking for a snow plow or a race trike. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the site. Andrew
  10. Cheers for that ;-) I'm getting the impression that any of them will do the job very well (which is nice to know). Thanks for the post-up, Andrew
  11. That looks to be a good price for that level of gear and at that spec too. I'll put my name down behind sunny.
  12. The big news is that I've now read the first 51-pages of this thread, incl videos so by my reckoning I'll be finished by Xmas, lol. One thing to report is that the repositioning of the battery pack has made a big difference to the stability of the buggy so that was a good mod to make. That said, yesterday, I checked the standard pinion and the main spur gear and it was evident that the pinion is starting to wear with signs of 'pinion dust' in the gear housing. A pic below shows the dust (drenched in WD40). What I am thinking is that 3S is probably going to damage the running gear so I'm going to stick with 2S and buy an alternative off-road race buggy in the future (something that looks like the FTX Vantage). .........I can now see why people come to have multiple cars in their collection). I'll be ordering the upgraded steal drive shaft, pinion and spur gear tonight from MS and that's about it for now. Oh, before I forget, I checked and replaced (using 45wt) the original rear shock oil last night and found that 8mm of it was missing (both sides) so it's clear that the FTX factory didn't fill them up to the top. I'm enjoying this buggy though - great fun. All the best, Andrew
  13. Thanks mate, I appreciate the response. I'm about to place an order woth ModelSport so I'll need to make a final decision asap. Thanks again, Andrew
  14. You're a star ;-) some damn good info there. I'll get the RW stuff ordered asap via Modelworld as I had a feeling it would become an issue. (I've just checked Modelworld and the part # is RWFTX62). I note from your pic that you've moved the rear suspension back by 5-holes from its original setting so I think I'll copy that too. I fabricated and fitted a brace to that area already and I have found a big difference to the performance on the chassis. I can also see that you've relocated the rear battery case holder/support to the upper rear of the chassis. I was intending to do the same but then changed it before I ran the buggy on Run-4 so I think I'll go back to what you've done. Thanks for the advice - it's really appreciated. Andrew
  15. Nice one, thanks. It'll come as no surprise to you that I've not heard of them yet. It's a big learning curve. Thanks again, Andrew
  16. Some really good points there ;-) I've been working my way through the many different RC topics so I'm slowly getting there. It's tough being a newbie, lol
  17. Cheers Iain, I'm doing all of my own fabrication to keep the bills down so my next job is to fabricate a small 5-bar ali plate across my already fabricated skid/bumper plate. The front end of my car is now like a rock but, in all honesty, this may also prove to be a problem, i.e. if the front end is too solid then a huge impact to the front may direct the forces to a different are area which then breaks. I'm thinking of buying a 3S Lipo but from reading this forum I believe I'll have to upgrade the spur gear besides other things. Thanks again, Andrew
  18. Thanks mate ;-) Run-4 went better than expected. The forward loading of the battery has definelty reduced the twisting affect on the chassis under acceleration but it still wheelies sometimes if I welly-it off the line. I don't think I'm going to improve the handling of this car much more except try and get the front suspension firmed-up a bit. That'll be Run-5 at this rate, lol.
  19. Hi guys, I've just joined the Outlaw ranks after buying a brushless version last Wednesday. I had to make a few adjustments as the steering was proper wonky so it was definitely not 'RTR'. Run-1: I took it to the park and within the first 3-minutes of use the front suspension holder broke so it was out of action almost immediately. I don't think me driving into a wooden post helped though, lol. Run-2: I let my wife have a go and she throttled it without turning the steering and off it went into a fence, breaking the very front two chassis affixing points and the front bumper plastic supports........so that was session two over fairly quickly. Run-3: Perfectly fine but the buggy keeps twisting and flipping - my inexperience doesn't help though! Run-4: TBC but with the following mods done: Modifications: I've posted up some pics below but in a nutshell I have: 1. Moved the battery forward to help with weight distribution. 2. Relocated the ESC, RX and on-off switch and a bit of a wire tidying too. 3. Fully braced the front using the chassis plate, differential housing and suspension mounts to clamp the new skid plate to the front. 4. Changed the shock oil to 45 which has made no difference whatsoever to me wanting to stiffen up the front suspension. 5. I've braced the rear suspension mounts to help support the shocks when under pressure. I'll keep an eye on the heat of the ESC against the battery compartment but it looks to be fairly well vented for now. Wish me luck for Run-4 !! All the best, Andrew
  20. @Jack Reacher and @Yorkshireman Thanks Both ;-) I really appreciate your recommendations. I've done a whole load of reading on Lipos since buying the model but there's nothing like asking a question and getting a recommendation from the likes of you guys. Thanks again, Andrew
  21. Hi Guys, I'm after a Lipo charger to replace the basic Etronix Pocket Pal model which came with my FTX buggy last week. I'm looking at buying two more 2S or 3S lipos between 4000-5300mah so I'm hoping that you guys can tell me which Overlander or SkyRC unit to buy please. I've got the choice of the following: Overlander: 1. VSR Mini 60W 6A (£31.49) 2. RC6 VSR 80W 7A (£44.99) 3. VSR Mini+ 100W 10A (£35.98) SkyRC: 4. T100 Dual (£41.39) 5. S65 A6 65W (£30.59) 6. e680 AC/DC 80W (£37.79) Any help or advice would be really appreciated. All the best, Andrew
  22. Hi All I picked up a FTX Outlaw buggy last week and it came with a Voltz 2S 3250mah 20C battery. I would like to buy one or two more Lipos but after delving through the Modelworld web shop I'm now confused as to what battery manufacturer is best. I have a choice of the following brands so what would you guys recommend - or are they much the same in terms of performance and quality? Voltz Corally Overlander HPI Plazma Many thanks, Andrew
