  1. In the latest instalment of "I now seem to keep being given RC buggies", I'm now in possession of most of a Kyosho RB6.6 readyset. It's in OK condition, but has no motor, ESC, or servo. At my skill level, I'm just going to be bashing about with it mostly. I've got up to £100 to spend on a brushless combo, and was curious about what might be best? I was thinking of either the Hobbywing EZRUN Combo MAX10 3652SL 4000KV or the Hobbywing Juststock XR10JS2 Black G2.1 10.5T, but any other suggestions in that price bracket would be most welcome. Cheers
  2. My father in law had something of a surprise for me today: A mid to late 1990s Mardave Cobra Sport that has been in a box in the loft for a couple of decades. My plan is to restomod it as best I can - keeping it in the traditional rear motor layout, getting spares from Mardave (who knew they still made parts for the Cobra?), but with a modern electronic SC and more up to date brushed motor. One other area I'd like to change up are the wheels. The old ones are smaller 2 inch wheels with a screw fixing. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to change the front and rear stub axles on these old 1990s kits to accept modern hex-drive wheels? Cheers
  3. I'd be up for that as another lapsed RC'er getting back into things. I'm in Huddersfield, but happy to drive for a bit.
  4. Thanks very much - I think I have a lot to learn (and re learn) having been away from it all since my teens. This is something I'll need to find out. TBH, I need to learn a lot more about modern batteries. I'm currently using 2200MaH 2S 25C and 4000MaH 2S 40C LiPos (it was all NiCads the last time I looked!) and need to get to grips with differences between 2S, 3S, etc. Cheers
  5. Having only recently got back into this stuff, and wanting to try a 4WD buggy for the first time in my life, I've picked up a Hobbytech BXR S1. It seems to be good value for money, with a decent spec and components like an alloy chassis, brushless motor, etc. Ad I must admit, this is all a big change from when I last used a buggy! The last buggy I had was a Tamiya Super Astute with a Kyosho Le Mans 240 motor and a few other upgrades (my first buggy was a Tamiya Striker - upgraded a lot, but still super fragile - followed by a Fox, which only lasted a while before it was stolen). The difference between my (hazy) memories of that and a modern 4WD setup - even a relatively budget minded one like the Hobbytech - is incredible. The speed and responsiveness are an order of magnitude better than anything I've tried before. If this is what the cheaper end of the market is like, then heaven knows what a properly set up Schumacher or Associated is like! Has anyone else here got a BXR S1? If so, any thoughts on the best setups for general bashing about, or useful upgrades (yes, only just got it and already thinking about that!) Cheers
  6. So, after a good couple of decades, I've just got back into 1/10th electric buggies. I'll be showing my age when I say my first ever RC car was a Tamiya Striker! I always had 2WD cars, but thought I'd try a budget 4WD buggy this time round. I opted for the Hobbytech BXR S1 RTR, as it was £250 and seemed to be better spec than some other budget 4WDs. My plan it just to bash around with it for a bit and then see if I have even the minimum level of scale to take part in some club racing. I'll probably bore everyone to tears asking for advice, as things have changed so much since I last had a buggy! Cheers
