Hi All,
I finished doing some checks over the weekend to ensure the gear selection, motor and battery are compatible. I never thought it would be quite so involved to do a conversion, most people just whack a motor and esc in and off they go. To double check my fag packet calcs were correct I used Excel (yes, I am an Excel freak) and reworked all my gearing, the motor selection and pulley calcs to ensure I was correct to within a few decimal places.
Without boring you all too much, I have attached my workings sheets. You are more than welcome to use it for your projects if required or just rip it to bits and use the parts of it you need. I should make a more user friendly one at some point.
In summary -
The NT-16 Nitro equivalent is approx. 950Watts in electrical terms, to get the gearing of the motor in the 30-40,000rpm range with the 3S battery I wanted to select something like a 3000kv motor (just so happened it has the potential for 1900Watts). The final gear ratio of the standard gearing is between 10 and 14 for the first and second gears, the new ratio with the belt system gets me in at 11 with a top theoretical speed of 43mph. The 3S battery is 2.2Ah and 35C so should be good for 77A up to 143A burst power.
I am hoping for some performance from this with a acceleration and a top speed that would rival the old nitro engine!
Total Spend so far - £109.38
Still need a controller, my Kyosho is on the blink so another £40ish to complete the build.
