  1. Exactly right. I also taped up the centre chassis brace above the slipper to minimise stuff falling in. I've not had a good look since but there must be another route in, or my dealing isn't sufficient
  2. grit and stones get in below the slipper clutch, from the front and back. i taped up the front hole and added a plastic plate to the rear but it's still getting in. wheels wouldnt turn last after getting it out of the boot but took it apart before any damage done. we'd been hooning around a gravel carpark. another thing to watch with going into water is that the wheels have holes in them on the insides, so the tyres can get water in. my wheels are currently sat on top of the boiler and once they're dry i'll tape up the holes.
  3. Definitely seal up the spur and pinion. Although this isn't as easy as it sounds, I sealed mine and grit is still getting in. Has anyone used the mesh bags that cover the whole chassis? Like these - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F254429895569
  4. Hi, got a rwd rustler off ebay today, it has radial type front tyres and lightly treaded rears. Had quick blast tonight and think better tyres are needed with more tread. I put the wheels off my carnage on it and they are a good fit and are 25 quid for 4 on Ebay. Any other suggestions as sources of cheap wheels? 105mm ish radius and 12mm hubs. Or is that as cheap as they go? Thanks!
  5. Went looking at arrma cars today and bought a granite 3S for my son. Nearly went for the typhon but the monster truck look won in the end. Aware of the issues with arrma, but after all the work on the last 2 cars I feel happier to swap stuff as it breaks. Chassis is really substantial, overall it feels heavy and solid. Got it home and noticed front bumper spring bracket was cracked, so the rc problems keep coming! Rang shop, very apologetic and will post replacement out. Glued it and taped up the inside of the body to hopefully make it last a while. Charged up a 2S battery to help my son get used to it. Started out on 50% throttle on gravel carpark but soon moved to 75% which was fast enough for where we were. My son absolutely loved it, was doing small jumps and donuts, handling is quick as it's such short wheelbase. Decided to avoid skateparks for a while. Then had quick blast on a field on 100% throttle and even on 2S it was doing wheelies, which when you're 6 is very cool 😁 We hit a metal post at mid speed and nothing broke. Was fun hooning round with my carnage, which feels much livelier than the granite, might be the much faster servo I put in. Both were actually loads of fun today, we emptied both batteries and came home filthy! I know the granite costs a lot more but initial impressions are that it's a very solid car and makes my carnage feel lightweight. Sure there'll be breakages and esc failure but today was good. Thanks again for all advice, it's been invaluable
  6. Thanks for the detailed posts, very helpful. Seems theres no bulletproof options out there. Read about the arrma issues on other posts, seems mad it would get past any kind of QC process. After all these things are way above toy money. I might hold off for a few weeks and see how the reviews are for the rival mt10.
  7. hi all, only recently started with RC's when i got my son an FTX Outlaw brushed for christmas. got myself a carnage brushless in january to chase the outlaw round skateparks, bmx tracks, etc. have really enjoyed the cars and my son totally loves taking them out. but i've had enough of the breakages so i'm looking for recommendations for something much stronger. i know that all cars can break, but the ftx cars have been too fragile for us. Having had them both apart several times i'm not that impressed with the chassis design or build quality, and the original carnage body lasted 10 days! i'll be e-baying both cars once they are fully fixed and i'm looking for suggestions for stronger cars. my son is only six and he's still learning (as am I!) so i dont want anything too fast. the brushed outlaw was maybe a bit slow and did topple over in corners a lot. my 2S brushless carnage is a good speed. ideally i'd like something very strong for jumps, skateparks and generally hooning, preferably with the ability to limit the speed. 3S is probably as high as we'd want. spares availability is important, but ideally the cars would take a beating without breaking too much. i like the size of the outlaw at about 50cm so something similar would be good. also want 4wd and either monster truck or truggy typecars with decent ground clearance. i dont have a budget but dont want to spend more than is needed. looking for 2 different models, so maybe 1 cheaper for son and a better / faster car for me. based on some googling and reading this forum options i've seen so far are - arrma granite 3S BLX £309 (or has anyone got experience of the £215 brushed version?) traxxas rustler 4x4vxl £409 associated rival mt10 3s £249 (not out yet, so spares??) possibly even the arrma senton 3S at £289, just not sure how that handles compared to the wider looking trucks any other advice or suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks
  8. i didnt go for the metal chassis for the Outlaw, but yes this one broke at the trailing arm mounts. the previous Outlaw chassis broke at the bumper mounts. my first carnage chassis also broke at the bumper mounts, and then when i broke a suspension arm on the carnage i rounded out some screws that i'd threadlocked in, so i had to deliberately destroy the second carnage chassis to free the screws. nightmare. i talked it over with my son and i'm going to get both cars fully fixed up and then put them on ebay. i'll be looking for some stronger trucks but will post for advice on another post.
  9. The upside is that when they're working they are massive fun, but sure that's a general rc thing.
  10. Hi I'm also new to rc and bought ftx outlaw brushed and carnage brushless. I'm ready for selling them both to be honest after just 5 weeks. the amount of breakage I've had runs to about 150 quid since christmas. Wish I'd took the plunge and got stronger cars. I know anything can break after crashes, but the chassis on both of these is poorly designed, with screws placed about 2mm from the chassis edges which just doesn't give enough material to take the knocks. Maybe me and my boy are too tough on them, but they are both in bits in garage and just ordered another 2 chassis, suspension arms, etc. 3 shocks have come apart and lost all fluid. Motor and esc on outlaw both replaced, outlaw steering servo isn't working, carnage body is unbelievably thin plastic and lasted 10 days. Sorry to be negative but I've spent 350 on the 2 cars and didnt expect such problems. I enjoy fixing them, but having to fix them after every run is becoming tedious for me and my son.
  11. I've not done anything like the jumps in that video! We have a small skate park, maybe a metre high curved banking and some 50cm max humps to jump. The carnage body came apart after just rolling over on tarmac whilst cornering, its unbelievably thin plastic. I've just added up and I've spent 80 quid in 3 weeks and I need more body posts and a new carnage body. Local shop has been great but I don't want to spend all my time and money in there! Ordinarily if I'd spent 200 quid on something with so many problems I'd not hesitate in returning it, just don't know if I'm expecting too much from them. On the plus side they are awesome fun and my son is always asking to take them out
  12. Hi all, Got my 6 yr old son an FTX Outlaw brushed for Christmas, then got myself a brushless Carnage to join in the fun. The cars have been a real eye opener, i wasnt aware how realistic they'd become. However i'm very dissapointed with the way that the cars break. My son broke front bumper / bumper support / chassis on the first outing on boxing day! We've since burnt out the motor and ESC, snapped battery tray mounts and i think the diffs need looking at as they seem quite 'crunchy'.. I've had the Carnage 10 days and have replaced chassis, body posts, front bumper, spur gear and the bodywork is in tatters. The Outlaw body and cage seems much more solid. I did some reading before buying and was aware the cars were a bit fragile, but i wasnt expecting to snap a chassis by hitting a kerb. i can live with the outlaw for now, it was a present so dont want to change it. But after 10 days i'm thinking that the carnage needs to be taken back to the shop as it's just too fragile. I appreciate we're learning to drive the cars and bumps will happen, i'd be ok if a bumper broke, but 2 chassis's in 3 weeks feels wrong. Any advise appreciated, and the form has been a great source of info so far, many thanks! cheers, Ian
