  1. I owe you guys some beers, thanks so much
  2. Looks good value indeed. I guess I just stick a loop in the second battery connector? I already have an ISDT Q6 Lite charger and some cables to adapt to the outputs of a PC PSU (650W), will that still do the job with these batteries? Should I be considering something more beefy?
  3. Ordered... Now this time I'm sticking with it! 😄 Time to look at batteries and essential upgrades. Does it make sense to get 1 x big battery (6s/4s) or 2 x small ones (3s/2s)? Doesnt seem to be a lot of choice with the XT90 connector fixed already, but I guess it's not too hard (or dangerous?) for me to get my soldering iron out and put a different connector on a battery? I might look into getting a different body for it, as the Red/Black one is a bit obnoxious for my liking... fancy something a bit more classy.... but I can wait... batteries first
  4. Is there a significant difference? What I'm reading is that something are actually better on the V3, and others worse. The radio being better on the V3 is definitely a big deal and the servo saver seems to be a big talking point. I'm thinking the V3 might actually be the way to go, bash it, break it, upgrade it.
  5. Is it just me, or is this a pretty good deal? https://www.wirelessmadness.com/arrma-kraton-6s-blx-brushless-1-8-monster-truck-with-ttx300-2-4ghz-radio-red-black-ar106029 I know it's more of a Truggy but at less then £400, seems like a steal.
  6. Well the ProLine has gone back but I wasn’t able to cancel the Servo... can’t imagine it will do any harm to have a spare Servo kicking around though. My 2yo face when I said I wasn’t keeping it was a heartbreaker. Thanks again for the suggestions folks, I think the comment about, “not buying on a whim” is a lesson I need to learn generally in life.
  7. I’m pretty sure that’s code for either: ”don’t waste money” or ”I can’t believe you’re over 30 and playing with toys” or “what do I get?” My justification that it’s cheaper than a real race car 🤪 From the very beginning I wanted to go bigger than 1:10 but then pulled it back to 1:10 so I could build it myself, as kit wise there isn’t a great deal around outside Tamiya, which don’t seem up to the task. I still really like the look of the MT+ II, the Arrma Notorious, and Arrma outcast is still on the Radar as they’re £100 cheaper. I guess the Arrma ones are all basically the same under the shell and share a lot of parts? I like the look of the Maxx, but them I’m back down to 1:10 so back where I started, in which case do I look at the Stampede Kit again, or just keep the bloody ProLine 😆 im going to the pub...
  8. Me: I'm just looking at what my next RC car should be.... Missus: .... Me: I want a bigger one Missus: ... Me: No reaction? Missus: I have no opinion Guess that means I'm in the clear then [emoji38] Sent from my G8341 using Tapatalk
  9. X Maxx is definitely out of budget haha... nearly a grand without the batteries So with the Hobao (my god my missus is going to throttle me) I reckon probably makes sense to start off with 4s (2x2s batteries?) Do the Modelsport bundles tend to make sense, or are the parts they offer with it a bit... crap/overpriced?
  10. That thing does look super tempting, but once I have the batteries and charger, i'll likely be pushing close to £700 which is probably just that bit more than I really had wanted to go... maybe its worth it in the long run... Anyhoo... I dont want to clogg up the MT 4x4 thread with my indecision so perhaps I'll discuss over in the thread I already started.
  11. So the Proline is going back after just arriving. Bit of a shame but it's my own fault for not actually checking the spares stock in the UK... should have known after struggling to actually find stock for the rolling chassis in the first place. I really do appreciate the advice regardless. So it basically looks like 1:8 RTR is the way to go given the potential for bashing in the moors/dales... This HoBao is calling me: https://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-mt-plus-ii-monster-truck-rtr-1-7-scale-silver/rc-car-products/442021 But also the Arrma options look like they're very well supported in aftermarket, and there is a lot of choice when it comes to the stock shell and frame: I particuarly like the look of this one: https://www.modelsport.co.uk/arrma-notorious-6s-blx-v4-2019-black/rc-car-products/440202 Saying that all this about RTR, there is this: https://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-sste-truggy-1-8th-scale-electric-rolling-chassis/rc-car-products/379171 Jumper mentioned the Hyper ST Pro earlier, but that's a Nitro car that needs adjustment, is it vastly different to this kit?
  12. Yeah, from these guys: http://www.modelshopleeds.co.uk
  13. Honestly I'm buying something specifically so I can jump it and give it a beating. Living between the Dales and the Moors in yorkshire, I'm pretty sure I'll find some good spots. It's literally just come through the door...
  14. Thanks guys. Feeling a bit dejected but I guess I will arrange to send the ProLine back and keep looking. I don't think the MT410 is for me, as great as it looks, at £400 starting point without wheels, electrics, shell or anything else... that will end up costing more like £700+ I don't want to derail this topic completely, so if anyone is feeling particularly helpful and generous, I'd love to here your feedback on my other thread:
  15. Am I correct in thinking the Maxx has JUST been released, and is a scaled down version of the X-Maxx? In a game of top trumps, they seem pretty similar, with the Maxx probably winning on parts availablity and overall cost. I wasn't planning on getting a RTR though, as I'm getting a real kick out of learning the hobby and getting stuck into the assembly. At £550-600 for a fully ready to go truck, that seems pretty good value, but I wonder how it compares in durability to the PL MT 4x4? If you don't mind me putting you on the spot, if you had a budget of £500-600 (for all the internals and radio too) right now and you were looking at something like this, is this still the truck you would buy? All I have ordered so far is a servo and the chassis kit, I'm still undecided on the electrics, so I'm far from committed to it. It seems rcMart have a decent set of spares and hop ups in stock, so if I stick with it, I may well go back through the thread reading everyone's comments and just grab the parts that others have struggled with (and whatever is shiny enough to put a smile on my face 😁)
  16. Hi Guys, I have a chassis arriving tomorrow, but looking around at parts availability in the UK kinda scares me. Is this a vehicle that is always going to require importing the spares, and is still a pretty active platform in the US, or is it basically dead already? ...should I stock up on parts, or should I send it back under DSR and keep looking?
  17. At least I feel a bit like I'm learning. Have to say, the spares situation for the Proline looks a bit bleak at the moment. Most places don't seem to have any stock at all... Is this going to be a situation where I always have to import the parts or are we just in a bit of a shortage at the moment for some reason? Ordered the first blue bird servo you suggested.
  18. Just a quick check... those servos state the operating voltage as 2s LiPo, am I missing something with my understanding here as I’ll likely be running a 3s? Does the ESC also rectify the volts for the Servo?
  19. Looking around at the electronics, I'm pretty sure Im going to blast past my budget.... oh well. I think i will go with the lowest end option you already suggested as its pretty freaking cheap compared to the "reputable" brands. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4068-2650KV-Sensorless-Brushless-Motor-4Pole-150A-ESC-for-1-8-RC-Buggy-Truck/123724115851?hash=item1cce882f8b:g:j6MAAOSwmphcpewQ Reading some of the other threads about this MT, looks like between 15-20KG is the requirement for the servo, does that sound about right? Is something like this over/underkill: https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/17098/
  20. I had a similar issue with the Firebolt 15t I stuck in my strada... flipping the wires worked on that one though. Not sure I would recommend the motor anyway as I have already had one go pop
  21. I pulled the trigger on the chassis Now to figure out Electrics, necessary minimum upgrades, spares and radio.
  22. Perhaps I just need to decide on a budget and figure out what the very best 1:8 or 1:10 basher is for that budget, as I feel like these shiny things could easily smash through my original scope into something completely different and crazy expensive. Lets just say I would rather the initial outlay including the chassis, necessary upgrades/parts, electrics, radio be less than £500, but can be convinced to go a bit over that if it makes sense in the long run. Im definitely looking at something with big wheels, tough suspension and reasonable ground clearance to use off road and do jumps with, so truck or truggy probably the best way to go (correct me if I'm wrong) After some thinking, I will just throw out the "kit only" requirement but put a strong preference on ARTR or Kits. How I'm feeling right now: The Traxxas kit seems like the upper end of cheap kits/trucks, but is very well supported in the aftermarket so has a bit of room to improve upon the existing frame and plenty of customisation options, but may require more initial improvement upon purchase to really get what I want. There is very limited capacity in terms of starting with a low power motor and growing to something with more oomph. The Pro-Line is perhaps more expensive than I intended, but fits the bill well in terms of capability and flexibility, plus has some room for growth as my comfort/skill increases but isn't all that suited to the very top end of it's supported motor configurations. Looking at the 1:8 kits that are around a similar price would probably result in overall lower quality compared to the higher end 1:10, and would likely end up costing a lot more to not only maintain, but to just get them where I want them with the electronics and basic upgrades. Is my thinking about right here? (Also thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it, just tell me if I'm being basically lazy and feel free to throw reading material at me)
  23. I feel like you're specifically referring to this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GoolRC-S3670-2850KV-Brushless-Motor-120A-ESC-Program-Card-Combo-for-1-8-RC-Car/392327000348?hash=item5b5882f11c:g:pHAAAOSwffBdHFGV Couldn't see much on wheelspin that matched those specs from more "reputable" brands. Perhaps the GoolRC motor is better paired with a "reputable" ESC? I think that might be sensible. My Strada can actually run 3S also, so if I was to upgrade it wouldn't necessarily be a waste. I might regret asking... but... you mean like this: https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/301666/ I have already learned the hard way about taking everything out, dabbing it with loctite and putting it back together. Lost a bunch of screws on my first few runs with the strada. I probably will stick with a 3S to start, but in terms of diff oil, a guy in the video suggested 1mil weight, would you concur with that? Lot of different discussions about which oil to use so will probably have to do some reading.
  24. I don't live too far from Leeds either.... But for quite a bit else to research first. I can wait for stock in other places too and I'm quite enjoying experimenting with my Strada, even if I am spunking far too much money on a throwaway RC car. Watched a few videos on the PRO-MT and it really does look the absolute DogBs. Wondering if going straight in with a beefy 1:8 motor and 4S might be just pushing me beyond my current ability, or a reasonably sensible financial choice in the long run.
