You must have a rogue Outlaw then 😆

I think it knows that, based on its reputation, I  bought upgrade parts including metal chassis, steering upgrade, rear arms, rear arm mounts, hexes, steel spur for the standard box and alternative gearbox and a brushless motor / ESC combo.

    It is taunting me...

  2. I have been very lucky with my Outlaw. So far no breakages. Today it ran three NiMH packs in the hands of a 7 year old. You can be sure he isn't gentle with the throttle and brake!

Every so often it just stops for a minute and won't respond to any input I can't decide whether this is a thermal cut out or the ESC on the fritz from too many collisions 😆

  3. He piloted the truck brilliantly, it had more pace than we needed and conquered some incline / decline tests without any roll overs. And the odd puddle.

It ran faultlessly. Than never happens for me.

Of course, it wouldn't be a 'Crumble RC day without some issue. I went to storage charge the LiPo and the balance lead plug disintegrated. A few scary sparks later and I had everything disconnected .

Any lessons for me? Had it been a Tamiya it might not have taken me two years to get it running...and it still isn't finished...

  4. My RC love has been waning recently, the winter is never great in my cold damp garage and my spare time is limited and now competing with a miniature painting commission.

Mrs BC had an overnight with work so I gave El Kid a few activity options - he chose working on my trail truck with a view to running it today.

So it gained the axle shims and Tamiya 6mm hexes it has been waiting for and I tidied up the wiring with some zip ties. Woo hoo! Then the truck threw it's usual curve balls.

    1. No compatible XT60 lead for the 2S LiPo

  5. This thread has been a bit quiet of late 🙂.

My bone stock brushed Outlaw got an outing at the weekend, rolling round my back garden in the hands of my 7yr old.

He'd been running  his Tamiya Dual Hunter but quickly wanted to swap over once he saw the Outlaw in action.

I was really impressed with his throttle control in the small area but eventually there were a few  coming togethers with the DH.

We finished with batteries (Nimhs) depleted and both cars still in a working condition.

The motor and battery in the Outlaw were VERY hot at the end of the session but it just won't die.

  6. The Inspire4 is £449, the TD-4 should be significantly less than that.

TheTD-4 is not meant to be a top-end race buggy either.

The $449 quoted for the TD-4 is the MSRP, suggesting a shelf price of$300-320.

Hopefully the UK / EU price will be reasonable

Edit: news suggests £305 to £325 UK price, due in October.

Just run it now - wow, just wow!

So much more drivable - good low speed start up and control, no hint of cogging at all, this car has never had any sort of low speed control before.

It’s a torque monster - driving feel is so much improved, rolling pickup is instant and feel through the curves is much improved.

I didn’t have access to my full straight this morning because of puddles, but still had 37mph out of it - definitely had more in it, and I was also being timid because of the new power!

Am now able to exceed my handling mods again, it will roll again under high speed cornering as the speeds are higher over the same course.

    It runs really cool.

Run time is extended, with the same battery over the same course I had considerably more runtime.

It’s like running a big block V8 compared to a smaller high revving engine - it’s under no stress and just gets the job done - it’s so composed.

Feels like the motor it was made to have, it’s a better truck all round.

    Now….    What about 4s….    🤔

I'd bought the 4600Kv version to mate up to a third party gearbox but now I'm tempted to slot it straight in and we what happens breaks first.

I really need to switch to LiPo first though...

  8. I suggest having a watch of the Scalebuildersguild review on YouTube. From memory the updat s to the chassis are discussed and there is an in depth look at the body and mounting system.

If it is the Bronco body you want, it is probably worth waiting and saving up. Even if you have a deal on the older chassis, it will cost a fair bit to upgrade to the new body and bits.

I like the look of them, can anyone explain how spring rates are measured?

3 lbs/in doesn’t mean a lot to me - does that mean it takes 3 lbs to compress it an inch?

Can I therefore assume that a spring per corner will hold up 12lbs and only sag an inch?  Ergo a shade over 5.4kg - which is approximately what I’m expecting Krystals sprung weight to land at.

so maybe by combining these in the top with the ax10 firm springs in the bottom I’ll end up somewhere near right?

This thread shows how spring rates can be measured  Tamiyaclub spring rates but isn't crawler related.

There are threads that I can't currently link (or view) on rccrawler.com.

What I can't tell is whether either of the springs I linked would fit your dampers 😟 as they are both Axial and your kit is HPI.
