  1. Thanks Hawkesy Appreciate the response. I know nothing about nitro - the E-Maxx is electric. I'd be in way over my head! ?
  2. Hi All Looking for a Traxxas E-Maxx. I already have a 3905 so thought it would be cool to run two - for sharing parts/knowledge etc. Already have two Rustlers so that works well. Looking for a 3905/3/8. Not really after a 3906 as a lot needs upgrading to go brushless (which is the ultimate aim for both trucks). So if anybody has one kicking around unused or even parts of one - give me a shout. Thanks for reading.
  3. He seems to have four available. If you buy it and it doesn't come or isn't as described then you get your money back via PayPal anyway. I'd happily buy it if I was after one. Sent from my S55 using Tapatalk
  4. My experience from Banggood has always been good. Both those cars look decent for the money. BUT - a lot of Banggood stuff initially has plenty of spares available which over the years tend to dwindle in number and availibility. Of the three you're talking about - I know which one will still be going in several years time. Plus, you could run the Rustler brushed for a while then sell the ESC/Motor and buy a brushless combo from Banggood with the proceeds!
  5. That's fine. PM your bank details and I'll do a transfer. Cheers Sent from my S55 using Tapatalk
  6. Sounds good. Does that include postage? If so, I'll take them. ?
  7. Hi I'm looking for some - for the rear of a Rustler. Why didn't they work on yours?
  8. E6000 is the same as Shoe Goo. Just look for that. I buy it off eBay but I'm sure you can find it locally. Or, as said, a glue gun. Sent from my S55 using Tapatalk
  9. TBH as a total n00b to RC cars Traxxas was one of the big names that everybody has heard of. I bought a used E-Maxx and a very used Rustler and they've both been great fun. I liked the fact that there's a huge body of online knowledge about how to fix and upgrade them. The Traxxas forum has been very friendly and helpful to me. Furthermore, the massive spares backup and endless choice of aftermarket stuff makes tinkering a breeze. Maybe once I know a bit more about the hobby I'll see Traxxas as the big, bad wolf and move on to some cooler kit - but for now, I'm happy. Sent from my S55 using Tapatalk
  10. So - had my first ESC fire. Ran through a few puddles and maybe the cheapo Racerstar ESC isn't too waterproof? Anyway, smoke began pouring out of the car so I unhooked the bodyshell and saw this. I then stopped filming as the ESC burst into flames and I managed to detach the flaming ESC from the rest of the car before it was all engulfed.
  11. Fitted a 58T 32P Spur and a 16T 32P 5mm Pinion. Seems to work nicely with a big 3660 Brushless motor. Waaaay faster than I've got room for on the driveway. Got a lot more room on the lawn but the grass is a bit long and damp just now so the wheels spin uncontrollably. ?
  12. Should work fine. Most of the FPV 5.8Ghz cameras need a power supply so try and find an all-in-one self-contained unit with a battery built-in. FPV goggles from Banggood around £30 or more for higher resolutions. DVR recorder around £15.
  13. Thanks guys. Yeah I was running both 48p pinion and spur. I've ordered some 32p gears. 54/16 which equates to the regular stock gearing for the VXL.
  14. OK - bought a cheap Rustler XL-5 off eBay. Ran it with the brushed setup for a while then stuck in a Velineon motor that I had, with a brushless ESC. It ran OK but then the gearbox broke. Rather than strip the 'box, I happened to have another one that seemed in good nick with a slightly smaller spur. So fitted that. I'd sold the Velineon motor but had a spare Leopard 540 brushless 3300kv motor and ESC from my SR5 Bike so I tried that. It ran fine on the bench but once on the ground - nothing. The motor would try and turn but the wheels wouldn't move. At all. The motor got REALLY hot trying though! Anyway, the spur was a bit smaller (76T) and the pinion quite large (26T) so I wondered if lack of torque was the issue? Next, I tried a bigger 3660 Racerstar 2200kv motor with an 80A ESC which I also had. Meshed it tightly (with just a tiny bit of play). Had a 22T / 76T setup. Set the punch control for the most gentle get off. Ran it for about 5 minutes and totally stripped the spur gear.(see pic). Never even got past half throttle. Was pretty gentle. I don't want to just change in another spur gear and have the same again. I'm guessing a steel spur just transfers the issue elsewhere? What am I doing wrong?
  15. Flysky FS-GT3C? Got one that I'm running with two cars. You can set it up for ten. 3 channel. Doesn't take AAs but has a built in rechargeable 800mAh LiPo battery that uses a micro USB (phone) lead to charge. Used it today at a range of 400m with no issues. Easy to set up using info from forums - the manual is hopeless. Got mine from Banggod for £30 but it's gone back up to £40. Can get them on Ebay for £33 or so . Extra receivers are a fiver.
  16. E-mailed that Derek Bailey chap and didn't get an answer. Probably went to his junk. Well, after hunting all over the world for a cheap EVX-2 - I found one right on my doorstep in rural Aberdeenshire. A nice old guy who builds amazing RC cars for a hobby had an EVX-2 with 2 motors for sale as he'd upgraded an E-Revo to brushless. £40 for the ESC and motors. I can sell the motors on eBay too. He had an Aladdin's cave of RC cars. Electric and Nitro. Floor to ceiling shelves with loads of high end stuff all beautifully built and generally run once to test then becoming shelf queens. HamRadioGuy - I prised it open easy enough and it seems to clip back together ok. It's the soldering I can't do! tamiyafanboy - I've actually got a 1/8th brushless system I could have dropped in but the twin motor brushed system is still really good and the Traxxas ESC lets you run training mode with 50% throttle which is ideal for my 5yr old. (.........and me!)
  17. That would be really helpful. Thanks. ? Turns out new ones are £170!!! Traxxas in the US do an extended warranty where you can return the faulty ESC and they'll send a new one for $50 IIRC. But they don't do it in the UK?
  18. OK. The Traxxas EVX-2 ESC on my E-Maxx has just broken. One of the black power wires has pulled out of the base - presumably off the PCB but it's all coated in waterproof type gloop so I can't really see. I can do basic soldering but this looks beyond me. Are there any places that do online repairs by post? Or any folk on here that do similar? Annoyingly I missed a similar ESC on eBay for £18. New ones are £150 odd......
  19. Thanks Chaps Picked up a couple of (complete) Rising Fighters off eBay for well under budget. One's good to go, one needs some assembly. Should get us started. I'll have money for some upgrades later too. ?
  20. OK - I stupidly volunteered to set up an RC club at our local primary school. Well, actually they'd planned to have a drone club but I'd reckoned it would be pretty hard to run it safely where they were and pointed out a car club might be better. Then I got roped in..... Anyway, just looking for some advice. Have maybe £200-250 to spend getting set up. The playground is limited in size and there's a lot of hard stuff to crash into. They have a small games hall say 50'x20'. There is also a proper local outdoor RC track fairly close by and I'll approach the club and see what they can offer too. I've got a couple of TRaxxas Rustlers (one running and planned to upgrade to brushless and one planned as a high speed project) which the kids can work on and learn how it all goes together. In terms of driving I was thinking crawlers or smaller scale cars due to the space restrictions. Maybe long term - build an M-05 chassis circuit racer to run at club events. I don't really know what I'm doing so anyone with any experience out there who has a few pointers would be very welcome. Thanks for reading Buzz
  21. I'm withdrawing any interest due to my total lack of knowledge on the subject and the likely result that I'd never manage to build it and get it running. (Got a used Traxxas Rustler off eBay that's RTR so I'll start there.)
  22. How much is a motor/servo/esc gonna set me back? (I have radio gear and lipos) Just a general enquiry - looking for a way into RC cars.
  23. Just finished Altered Carbon. 10 hours of incredibly expensive sci-fi. Think it's Netflix but I'd downloaded it. Great story as it's based on a series of books. I think they're making five series. Once past the first couple of episodes it really goes places. Full of graphic violence, sex and full frontal nudity - although it has bad points too. Think Blade Runner meets 8mm meets Minority Report meets True Romance and you're halfway there......
