  1. I'd see the comments top of page mate. Might try one too. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  2. Tel and me will be out doing much the same Sunday. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  3. I've watched Terry's roll some twenty metres down a slope, at speed, and never flickered. I can't run my Outlaw for twenty mins without something breaking..... Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  4. Oh I hear that...... No one told me before I got into the hobby. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  5. It was a relief to realise it was an easy fix. Just got to get over the shame..... Thanks for your input on all this John. It seems a much more "mature" animal now, not the crazy puppy of old. Hopefully I have managed to cure the appetite for spurs too. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  6. Here the first test run, no cogging and real smooth. Reverse is a bit severe but tuning with the prog card and tx is yet to be done. And the slightly damaged spur is still in there for the testing runs so there's a little extra noise which should go in due course. She's back on stock wheels because it'll be crawling first of all, and the Bugsta wheels ain't great for that. Main changes are Ares 13.5T Pro sensored brushless motor Hobbywing 10BL60 ESC Turnigy 1501 17kg servo Absima R3FS RX and their 4 channel Tx. Ally upgrade motor mount Steel rear prop shaft Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  7. So, finally got some time and all the parts to fettle the new Ares sensored motor and Hobbywing ESC. Took a few attempts because once assembled the drive train just appeared to lock up. Strip it back, and everything worked in isolation. Culprit? Using the slightly longer screws to screw the top plate into the gearbox housing. The screw ends where catching the spur leaving the two indents and jamming it. Thankfully I carry 4 spur and pinions now in my spares box. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah I hear that solution a lot. I may do something similar. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  9. I had thought that. The geometry of the front v the rear is so radically different it must be inevitable that they need different oils. Looking forward to finding out! Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  10. Yeah I'll try 30wt in the second set of shocks. But I'm curious about the different dynamics the shock oil weight brings, and I'm going to be using it for crawling (hence the motor choice), general mischief and high speed racing. Hence the two sets of shocks and experimenting. A full report will be forthcoming from the upcoming crawling adventure. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  11. Yeah that's a definite risk. But, with no real knowledge or experience (and my mate's shock oil haha) you gots to start somewhere. Now I know it's a piece of cake, I can redo them if needs be. Truth is, I have a full spare set of shocks still factory fresh, so chances are I'll end up with a firm set and a soft set. Horses for courses. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  12. So last night it was upgrade time. Since I'm going thru spurs every twenty mins major changes were needed. Thanks to John of course for the inspiration and recommendations. In goes ARES Pro 13.5t sensored motor and Quicrun 10BL60 ESC. Still on original motor mount as I, erm, forgot to order the ally one. But that'll be next. Had to shave a little off the top brace for the motor connectors and yes, we lost the hot glue seal plug. Also, a new spur shaft assembly with new bearings, washers, shaft, spur and front cup are for the weekend. While stripping I found that the rear section of the metal drive shaft was unscrewing which must have meant a ton of slop where it wasn't needed. My mate@TerryV34 also showed me how to change shock oil out. The stock oil was already shot, check out the color. In went 60weight and now she's really smooth and supple. The first run will tell if she's too supple, but right now she feels a-mazing. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  13. Sounds good. I'm still on the OE chassis but some jumpers have had theirs break esp where the rear arms join. You do get a better sealed RX box in the upgraded chassis so it'll happen for me sooner or later. The rest of your list, yup. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  14. Nowt wrong there then [emoji106] Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  15. I'm the anonymous friend he keeps referring to. Wondered why my ears were burning randomly. And I haven't started the sucker yet. Gah. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  16. Looks real good John. Real good. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  17. During last week's ill fated evening woodland excursion (another stripped spur) I did experiment with lighting. Here is the buggy with my cycle light attached to the inside of the roof frame. And it worked a treat. The lights are £15 from Halfords, Inc battery, and attach via a rubber band. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  18. And I clearly don't know what a stick controller is, by the sounds. I'll get my coat.... John, motor and esc you recommend is going to be in my sweaty hands Sat morning. Fingers crossed and thanks for the info, you useful mine of knowledge you. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  19. And while it seems to be me and you, the car can be programmed via the £10 esc controller shown in the manual, to go direct to reverse from forwards. Really can't recommend this if you value your drive train. The car is, in brushless format at least, borderline over powered out of the box. Snapping from one direction to another will unduly stress especially the plastic components like the spur gear and stock rear prop shaft. I think std setting requires you pause the throttle between fwd and back before reverse is allowed. Imagine slamming a car into reverse at 40mph..... Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  20. Only thing I can contribute is to be careful with flight transmitters whose throttle stick won't be spring loaded to return to "off". Maybe car specific types do, but my Spektrum dx8 and ilk don't. So you let go, and the car would keep going. Like a cruise control. Whereas the wheel types all spring back to throttle off. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  21. It will, the esc has a preset safe limit of (can't remember) but it's the recognised "don't use this battery past... V" Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  22. Doh! Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  23. And does a sensored motor work along side the existing OE brushless components? Or does it need to have an ESC upgrade too? Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  24. Hmmm. That's very interesting gents. And sounds perfectly plausible. Guess it's more money either way - expert view or try motor replacement. I thought it might be the diffs, maybe stiff or binding, but since it free-wheels easily on all wheels and on each axle I don't see those being an issue. Doesn't leave many other options really, but the motor. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
  25. Thanks John, I didn't really think the wheels would be a big issue but am grasping at straws otherwise. This time the pinion seems fine, maybe I'm unlucky and jammed a wheel with a stone or something momentarily. I can imagine it doesn't take a second to strip a tooth enough for it to then roast the whole disc. So I thought, let someone take a look at it instead of me poking around making matters worse. If it gets the all clear, then I guess I'm just unlucky.
