2017 - About to buy a Maverick Vader xb- advice and Info please.
TheGinja replied to TheGinja's topic in General - Electric
haha wow, im looking forward to it now lol , any excuse to have the tools out on the kitchen table lol I was even thinking on going ahead with the vader as well, as originally planned since seeing it can be fitted with a ludicrous motor out of the traxxas x-01 - fettle time (knowing me I will likely chicken out of full throttle though) and I found out that the redcat rampage xbe is essentially the same car with parts in abundance . not sure yet though as that would need permission. -
congrats rover man, that looks a tasty machine.

I would really like to get my hands on an old Mardave Meteor, as a bit of nostalgia, as i used to race one years ago at horwich college races in bolton, and also in blackburn. I would love to get one which is as stock as possible. but I just cant seem to get my hands on one. I have a parts catalogue so was considering building one from scratch but then its going to be very expensive and probably not worth it.

They developed an 8S model now which is hitting the £900 mark so out of my league for now, Ill be on the hunt for a good used one or keeping my eye on the sales. definately not paying those prices.

TheGinja replied to TheTwig's topic in Buggies, Truggies & Stadiums
No worries at all, anytime. -
TBH if it wasnt a replacement I wouldnt of chosen it but.. its been good fun this one, so far.... touch wood.. it will fill that gap till april when the baja ss makes its way to my kitchen table haha, then the kids can have it. already got eyes on that traxxas xmaxx for next years birthday off my wife haha much grovelling i think. then prying her off it as shes rc mad as well.

Postie brought me a replacement rc vehicle. Had an FTX vantage brushless that was a bad egg and very fragile, complained to ftx and as a "good will gesture" they posted me out a brushless ftx carnage.! took it out today for its first run and had a blast with it. And for the first time ever in my ftx ownership I didnt break anything! Result!! Left s my kids carnage (Gnasher), right is my new toy! (Basher), the two tiny ones are HPI q32's left:(Onion the Baja) and right: (Samosa) indoor rainy day toys.

Sounds like a nice beast youve got there, I definately think the long term strategy is going to be the one. Especially like you say you can end up spending plenty of $$ . Slo and steady bargain hunting sounds like fun to me, Im always attracted to the bargain baskets haha so it suits me just fine lol. My LHS has mentioned that the baja is going back into production and will likely be back on the shelves early april so guess whos running to the store when the phone rings haha -

FTX Vantage - good first buggy choice?

We put some velcro strips at the two ends of the battery and in the car on ours, keeps it in place nicely. Did the parts make it to you ok as well. -
FTX Vantage - good first buggy choice?

Pro-line do a tough rear wing. The FTX vantage also has a cousin in a car called a Qaunum Vandal. and parts for the quanum are a lot cheaper, we are talking pence instead of pounds for identical bits. -

OMG that good then is it haha. guess id better get looking for stockists of the upgrade parts and build a wish list lol Its likely going to be after april when I get the car as my LHS has mentioned stocks are very low at the moment until after then as something to do with HPI changing ownership. Is it the steering and suspension arms that will need changing to allu or is it other parts which are weak. -

Had a look at the radio gear, its a nice bit of kit that, amazed how cheap it is as well, Thanks for the info. Im thinking the SS is the way to go after seeing that. Thanks for that evssv. Time to get hunting and saving. Are there any weak points on the baja ss which would need addressing at the point of build as a prevention method or any particular parts I should stock up on just in case, or are these things as durable as HPI make out. -

Im a pain in the arse tbh I cant make my bloody mind up half the time, Ive been delving through all the different HPI bajas, and the king motor bajas, and I'm becoming interested in the baja 5b ss from what I gather its a kit baja, comes with some upgraded parts but needs a few bits to finish such as radio gear. would a kit form be a better option do you think. if so what would be a good radio gear set to use for a car this size. Im new to large scale stuff and its a whole new world. -

funny you should mention bling lol I took a trip to rcmodelz in person yesterday as they are only a few miles away from me, and they had an all alloy/aluminium one sat right there in the window for £689 and Ive got to say the build quality is really good, much better than I thought it would be, a couple of sharpish edges here and there but they can be sorted easily enough,. and they told me all the parts will be compatible with a genuine baja5b so whichever route is taken I know where I can get decent cheap parts from at least. The staff are polite and the chap on duty at the time put up with me asking to view different models. I have come away with some serious thinking to do. they have a roller chassis for under £300 which really got me thinking. -

Those baja's look good and sturdy, and are a lot cheaper than the HPI, question is what are they lacking over the HPI's to be so much cheaper. or is it just a brand name thing.
