  1. Hi Someone, I have watched a friend "Basher" trying his best to destroy his Outlaw by trying to do the impossible and more? Madness !!! One of the the reasons it survives so well is that its Flexible mostly as designed by the manufactures. I drive a real defender 90 which I us off road on occasions and if it was too stiff I would break something. One must allow Flexibility. Something Will Give In The End ( Break ) Good Luck Anyway. Regards John
  2. Welcome to MSUK forum What a great start. Blown away, Great idea and looks so real. Did you make the body yourself ? Well done either way. John
  3. Hi mamodman, Sorry for the delay in answering you, been very busy building a lean to on the side of the house as the old was falling down !! Not so easy as I'm getting older ? So glad to know some one who owned an Allegro, not too many admit to it !!!!! Anyway you were right as regards the make and a good guess but wrong with the model, I wasn't expecting anyone to know what it is unless you're a serious Triumph fan ? Its a one off, the only one of its kind ? A Triumph Fury, prototype for the stag. My first father in law restored classic and vintage cars, he also restored a Triumph TRX known as the Bullet designed by Walter Belgrove only 2 and an half made because of a fire in the factory in 1950. The video fails to mention it has 4 hydraulic jack one in each corner so wheel changes are easy and you can take the bonnet off anyway you like as well and also the bench seat is hydraulic !!! Meeting up with Basher on the weekend for trial bash up the Castle with his motor converted Outlaw to see if its up to crawler the banks?
  4. It appears from the comments about the cars that there's a few of us not quite so young out there??? I can recall a comic in the sixties where a young man had a RC model army and I can remember thinking " Wow If Only That Was Possible " I would have given anything to have had what the youngsters have today regarding all the electronics etc ? Hope someone remembers the comic and the article as getting older takes its toll on the memory !! I was an Apprentice Mechanic between 68 and 73. I used to drive "The Attached" most weekends during the summer, to classic and vintage car shows "One of The Father in Laws Cars" Be Surprised if anyone knows what it is ??? My Carnage now has the brushless setup out of my Outlaw and go's like the clappers after Basher set it up properly for me. Just finishing off the paint work. The Landy Ranger is quite amazing and looks near scale, I use it up the castle frequently and get lot of comments, Especially from the older dog walkers !!! John
  5. The Hillman Avenger Tiger, Well there's a car for you !!! I was on the track at Longbridge building Austin Allegro's ( Square Steering Wheel, Who Ever Thought That Up ? ) when they first came out and because of the automated track there was quite a few 3 door versions! 2 doors on one side and one door on the other ??? all Unfortunately scraped when they realised what had happened. The 1100 and 1800 tracks produced between 70 and 80 cars per shift, the Allegro track was knocking out 250 to 280 per shift, no one working on there over 30. Trying to keep up with the Fiat Strada built by robots ? Was this one yours ??? John
  6. Well we share the same sentiments !!! 2 Plus 2 equals whatever they want it to ? Love the Skull Truck but not very aero dynamic ? Was tempted to paint the Landy Ranger Like This But Thought Better Of It. Love Wabom1981 assault course, think I may have to make one myself, it would certainly help with the slow control etc. So many great inputs on here and I love seeing what all the others are up to. We never stop learning.
  7. Terrifying, But I'm worried what's going to be compulsory in the future !!! Here's my next project ( photos not mine ) but want to do something similar with my Carnage? Thinking of Gloss Black and Lime green ???
  8. PS, Mamodmam Love your saying "Stop you getting brain rot from TV" I always say that loads of TV is entertainment for the mindless masses ??? And there' s loads of them out there !!!
  9. Hi mamodman, I totally understand your situation and I would go with Cold and Well Ventilated. I have a few friend with Railways in sheds and a couple in small Caravans, it appears that still air is always the problem so I would give it loads air movement, some vents down low to let in cooler air and quite a few up top to let the warm air out because where there's air there's water and they sweat ??? Unsealed boxes in the loft are fine if there's lots of ventilation but I think your outside shed would be fine if you left the door open when you can? I'm very lucky really as the small b/room is my modelling room and I have a HO railroad layout in the second bedroom hence me saying the don't tell the wife !!!!!
  10. That's been my problem ever since I got into RC cars in January this year !!! Been into Model Boats Tugs And Gliders for years no problems because you're limited by the room they take up BUT car, well that's different matter? Also have a Maverick Scout and Just Received A FTX Carnage ( Don't Tell The Wife !!!!!! ) John
  11. Not to clued up on motors, diff and pinion gears etc I rely on a play mate, Isle of Wight Basher for all that info. Diff guard was made from a Samsung hard plastic phone case which to my amazement has an aluminium back just under the plastic ???
  12. Hi mamodman, Glad to have helped and I did the same and got 2 ! You're never too old and anything's possible on a Defender??? Just Google Defender Images.
  13. Forgot to say I counter weighted the rear wheel with a diff guard and car wheel weights epoxied to the front axle.
  14. Hi mamodman, Snorkel link below, giving them away at that price ??? I've had Defenders for well over twenty years so I suppose I'm use to them but I know what you mean. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282389082310
  15. Hi All Well it's only taken me since January to master getting photos on here. I've been side tracked with modifying and changing the two bodies on my Outlaw !!! So here are some of my Landy Ranger. The last two show the articulation without the rubber inner shocker tubes, 3 wheels on the ground and no fowling of the tyres. Last photo is my daily transport. John
  16. Hi everyone, Thanks for the advice. Just ordered a Brushed Carnage and going to swap the motor and esc over with my Brushless Outlaw. I will then look into locking the rear diff up and give it a go. This is why I want it to crawl slower ??? Not finished yet This also gives me a Brushless Carnage for all the mad stuff !!! John
  17. Many thanks John, Do you run yours with diff lockers like lots rock crawlers? I'm not sure how it will get on coping with the full speed brushless setup and with lockers? Do I need a dedicated version ie :- Another Outlaw to convert ??? I have the brushless setup on mine at the moment which I love . Thanks John
  18. Hi Heggs44, I, like you love the BL Outlaw and its ability to take all the punishment you can give it,( Basher Certainly Give His Unlimited Punishment ) but also like you I really want it to be able to Crawl as well. Thinking of buying another brushed version and converting it to make a Crawler, so I will be interested in what others on here suggest and if anyone actually have made or used one successfully? Regards John
  19. You've done a great job Basher, Colour looks great and the lights certainly make it look like the real thing.
  20. I think Bashers Outlaw looks so much better now its been modified and the body looks more like the real thing? I'm sure it will look good in Orange. I also like Little Richards Outlaw, just needs a couple of Mad Max graphics on the sides ? Well done you've done a great job and its great to make a model your own by changing things. I painted mine dark grey, lime green and finally silver grey with a few coat of lacquer to finished off with. I gave it its first outing last Saturday, two minutes up the bus yard doing power slides etc ( amazing ? ) then down the shrubbery beside Carisbrooke Castle doing Steep Hill Climbing. I think I may have got about 5/6 minutes out of it , but what fun it was !!!!! Li-po battery and brushless motor etc will be my first mod, and when something breaks I'll upgrade. I really can't get over the punishment Basher gave his Outlaw when we met up a few weeks ago, it may not have looked pristine but its certainly was used to its full potential, I think the saying goes "How Dares Wins or, If You Don't Try You'll Never Know" Just a bit too quick for me being an old git !!! John
  21. Hi Basher, So pleased to know someone else is on the IOW and yes I will try to get over to Puckpool Park to meet up. I presume that when I click on your profile, the envelope I see is a private mail contact ??? If that's the case please leave me your contact number and I'll give you a ring and arrange a meeting, It would probably be on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Like your Urban Space Man Name !!!!! John
  22. Hi All, Eight weeks have now gone by and I’ve spent the time experimenting ( playing ! ) with my new Ranger. Like everyone seems to agree the Ranger is very capable straight out the box, However I wanted to do a few improvements etc so I started by removing the stickers, fitting a Defender grill and painting the wheel arches satin black. It now looks much more Defender like I also swapped of the battery pack with the rc and esc which helps with putting the weight forward. I then lifted the body by two holes and extended the front bumper out by one hole. I remove all the shock absorber inner rubber tubing as well as cutting out the cross member above the steering servo. I now get full suspension travel and buy sticking with the same size wheels; tyres and leaving the track width alone the tyres don’t foul the arches or bumper. With watching the Landy Ranger closely going over large obstacles and rocks the suspension never bottoms out due to it being quite a light crawler. I decided to buy 2 x 1700 mah Ni-mh so I can swap them when I out. I was more than surprised that they both lasted 35 minutes plus and 70% of that time was spent climbing hill as high as a double decker at times with quite a few gradients that were difficult to walk up. I live very close to Carisbrooke Castle IOW and find the moat and surrounding area a great challenge!!! Would just like to say thanks to everyone contributing on this forum, as all the information, opinions and advice are well received. Will try to work out how to get some pictures on here this weekend !!! John.
  23. Hi t2boats, Many thanks for your quick reply. I have started to do some of the suggested mods and so far Raised the body swapped the battery to the front removed some decals and painted the wheel arches matt black !!! I intend to get a Lipo but not sure where from or what make as I'm not sure what will fit the battery holder ? so any help would be gratefully received. I like the idea of widening the track and changing the wheel for ones like you have fitted, but again not sure where to look so any info would be great. Did you have to remove and dismantle the shock's to cut down the tubing or did you carefully cut them down with a Scalpel ? Now off to find your other video. Many thanks Again. John
  24. Hi Again, Forgot to say that " t2boats " Video is brilliant and the Ranger looks Fantastic. Hope I can get mine to look like and perform the same ??? Very Well Done and ManyThanks. Regards John
