  1. I think between 8-10 but have used just over quarter of a gallon of fuel. The settings are high and low speed at 3 and 3/4 full turns out from closed. Yeah think I get the difrence in the sound and what to look for just gets confusing when getting close but that should come with experience. just supprised it would be so far from the factory settings I think, so will not worry too much about them. Yeah did think the temp might be affecting it didn't get over 1c here. One question if you are richening the high speed to where it seems right but the car is boggy/stalls when at low speed do I need to richen or lean the low if ether or have I gone to rich on the high? Am thinking lean the low but not sure as that didn't seem to work just made it harder to start
  2. Ok so having some problems getting the engine tuned/running right. I started this morning practicing with the old buggy and got that tuned pretty well I think it had good smooth acceleration and a good top end with a good amount of blue smoke. So on the new engine I reset the high and low needles to the factory settings, checked the idle gap was 1mm checked the glow plug was working, heated the engine to 200f and started. It started fine then cut out right away so set the trim to open the throttle slightly and it started and idled fine. On to driving it was fine at low to mid speed with blue smoke then it would die off at higher speed with less smoke so started richening the high speed after richening it quite a lot from the factory setting it seemed to be ok and get to higher speeds but struggling a little lower and cut out. It wouldn't start easily after that until I reset the needles to the factory settings but then I had to start richening the high speed again to stop it struggling at higher speeds. Any ideas? I have had to give up for tonight as I can't see what I'm doing any more but will try again tomorrow.
  3. Am using a wratchet spanner/driver as my normal wheel but wrench doesn't fit in the wheels so might not of done it tight enough. My main problem was the grub screw coming out meaning I almost lost the hub so need to make sure that bit has locktight on it. Yeah seems to be going ok got a little confused with it towards the end so have reset the needles and will start tuning again as soon as I have sorted the hub out. I have also got the old lightning 2 going and the engine is running pretty well for a old engine might practice tuning on that one before carrying on with the st.
  4. Finished breaking in my engine, leaned it just enough to stop it wanting to stall and went for a little drive about with it taking it slowly. Got it muddy then the wheel fell off and lost the nut pin and almost the hub thankfully found that about 5 meters away so will have to order some more parts and check the other grub screews on the wheel hubs are locktighted in.
  5. Finished my hyper st build and started breaking in the engine. Thanks to Locky for helping me with tips during the build and with how to get the engine started for the first time and broken in.
  6. Have had 6 tanks through it now and all is going well had to stop for tonight as it was getting hard to drive and hold a torch on the car but will put a couple more tanks through tomorrow then start to tune it slowly. A few pics before and whilst breaking in.
  7. Thanks sounds like its going ok then there was plenty coming out the exhaust. Going well so far have had 2 tanks through at idle and 1 tank at quarter tank. Temp wise the engine hasn't got over 160f so far.
  8. Ok it has started it seems to be idling fairly quickly and just turning the wheels slightly spluttering at times. I have set the trim on my tx to keep the throttle slightly open if I leave it closed it cuts out. Does this sound about right? First tank of fuel through it now. Have set the piston at the bottom and will let it cool for a few mins then will carry on with the break in.
  9. Thank you will give that all a try. Think I wasn't heating it anywhere near enough.
  10. All put together now, will add some pics later. Trying to start the break in but can't get it started yet, I have reset the needles to factory settings they were miles off as it came, using the glow plug that came with it glows very brightly but also have some os no 8's if that would be better? New fuel, and just about to double check the idle is set to 1mm. Have also been pre heating the engine but what temp should I be pre heating it too? It is pretty cold here at the moment so guessing that isn't helping? Thanks edit just read on the break in thread to start it with the receiver turned off and the throttle open slightly by hand so will try that next.
  11. Yeah spoke to my brother after and he said he had loads of truble with the starter even when it worked so glad I have ordered a pull start and new bearing for it.
  12. Thanks so far i went the other way with a spacer between the mounts and chassis and a longer screw going in to the mounts seems to be doing the trick for now
  13. Thanks will see if i can find some washers the right size if not i will make my own.
  14. I have a plan I have found a thin bit of metal at work and am going to try and cut it down and make some spacers. should this work or will i be lifting the engine too high?
  15. So new engine arrived this morning and have started to get it installed but hit another problem, the back plate and pull start sit lower then the engine mounts so can't get the engine fitted. Is there a way around this or do I have to buy new mounts?
  16. Think it is the one way bearing as the insides just fell apart in loads of pieces whilst I was trying to clean it.

  18. I have now ordered a new one way bearing and a pull start for the engine.
  19. Ah yeah so it does will try it the other way and see if that helps at all. The fuel was brought today.

  21. Ok not sure what i have done but have got it running now. But it is idling very quickly and if you touch the throttle it cuts out.
  22. How i have put the starter together. The needles have been to reset to what it says in the manual and the gap looks 1-2mm it does say 2mm in the manual.
  23. ah ok i did have that apart earlier and wasn't sure if it went back right so might be wrong tho did work for a little bit after i put it back together will get some pics of it
  24. Ah ok something doesn't seem right about the starter where about is the one way bearing in the hand held bit or the bit on the engine? Sorry havent actually tried to start a nitro before today so still learning it all it is my brothers old buggy he said i can have. I was pre heating the engine with a hair dryer. have also got a new glow plug in it, new fuel and reset the needles to factory settings. Earlier it was starting but then stalling/cutting out straight away then started having problems with the starter.
