  1. Hello, I've nearly finished putting together my schumacher LD2. Just a quick question about the battery holder. I currently have a couple of core rc batteries but it doesn't feel secure in the clips. Its not going anywhere - but there's a bit of horizontal play. How good are those clips compared to the klinik rc battery cradle? Is the x-brace also worth considering - I haven't been able to find out much about it.
  2. Hello, How big is your garden? Have you thought about a smart sprinkler? I think there are some you can control from your phone... or, make one with a water solenoid valve and a relay. I don't know many R/C's that have a stand by mode so it would be a bit of a DIY project. You could power down the ESC maybe with an arduino controlled on channel3, or using a time out function but you'd have to leave the reciever running. I imagine that would last quite a long time. I think you could have a lot of fun making it look a bit like a cat. Birds aren't easily fooled by decoys but if it chases them I think it could be pretty effective. Q. Why did the scarecrow win an award? A. It was outstanding in it's field. From a recreational point of view: Tamiya are continuously re-releasely the cars of 1980's - to the extent that I wonder what they will do when our generation is pushing up daisies. By modern standards they haven't really moved on much and I can't imagine my kids having much fondness for them. That said - common sense notwithstanding - I still love Tamiya kits. A more sensible option though might be a ready to run (RTR) car. I'm looking at the Associated RB10 for my kids - but if you're running on grass I guess a monster truck would suit you better. Maybe have a look in the Monster RC's forum area. At a glance I like the look of the Arrma Granite or the Associated Rival MT10. I'm sure you'd still have a blast with a Tamiya Monster Beetle or a Lunchbox though (they might be kinder to your lawn too)
  3. Thanks - I've been watching TomleyRC review the DR10 and SR10 and I'm leaning strongly towards the RB10 now. That said, price is an issue so we might end up with a Bandit in the meantime.
  4. Thanks. I had looked at the RB10, but for some reason I thought it was a lot more expensive than that... It's certainly tempting and has more potential. I'm weighting that up against converting a 2nd hand rustler - there seem to be a few brushless ones on eBay for relatively little money. Like you say, it depends how keen they are on taking to the track. I shall present them with some options. My son has been really into timed circuits in the garden with just a Tamiya Jimny. There's hope there that he'll want the associated, although he'll have to wait a bit longer for that one so we'll see. Thankfully, my daughter likes the crawler so I don't think i'll need two extra buggies.
  5. It sounds like the bandit might be the one then. Last night I read that the dt03 gearbox is tough enough for brushless power - but it's prone to smashing itself up on impact!
  6. Re: the Tamiya option I meant DT03 (neo fighter/racing fighter) not the DF03
  7. Yeah, that sounds exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. They have been driving my old clodbuster so they are au fait with bathtubs!
  8. I'm looking at getting a 2wd off road competition buggy. So... there is a requirement for a less good 2wd buggy for the kids. (Not because I'm really competitive, I just don't want them breaking my new buggy!) I'm a bit soft in head when it comes to Tamiya... so I'm leaning towards the DF03 with a brushless esc/motor and we'd share lipo batteries. The Bandit looks interesting though. I get the feeling it's been around for a while so should be good for spares and "hop-uos" for some time?
  9. It will be many weekends before I'm racing again... for now it will just be practise laps at the weekends. Although, bizarrely, if my wife has the car, it is easier for me to get to Eden Park! Thanks for the heads up regarding the laydown - only last night I noticed the laydown had vanished from modelsport, and the stock spec is now £250. I think I shall hold tight and see what happens then. I'll keep an eye on the secondhand market, but I would really enjoy building one. I'll have a look at that SWORKz, that's new to me.
  10. I hear what you're saying - I'm clearly over thinking it. I'll just use something cheap/old.
  11. In the ancient past I had a set of foam tyres for practicing on tarmac / car parks but I wondered what was available now. The Schumacher venom tyres look good for the rear, but I'm not sure about the front. V-tech groove 2wd?
  12. I've really enjoyed this thread. That Kyosho looks really nice. 2WD racing is something I've wanted to get back into for a long time. We've been playing around with a crawler lately but then one of my son's friends bought a 4WD buggy and I can just feel myself beginning to crack. It turns out I'm not that far from HNMC in Ware, and I know Baldock quite well, near Stotford. I'm been looking into a Cougar Laydown. My knowledge is about thirty years out of date but I've found the spec sheets really helpful in working out what else i'd need.
  13. Hi, just a quick question about those winch remotes on eBay. Am I right in thinking they are infrared? Do they work ok? I'm thinking about using an arduino and a universal remote to control my lights ( and one day a winch too ). I am too tight to buy another radio.
  14. Hi all, I'm trying to find the SCX10 II Cherokee kit for sale - does anyone in the UK have any of these left? The new UK distributor CML are talking 4 months until they see any stock.
