  1. I might try finding out about setting it up better. It's just the thought of spending another £100+ on a ESC and motor combo doesn't really appeal. It does seem a shame that if you can set it up right it would be so much better.
  2. John I can understand why that should be the case, I took the center gearbox apart and wondered if it would have been better for an owner to understand it better from building it. Yeah the motor lasted literally about 5 minutes LOL. Soon as I Google'd I realized I'd made a mistake and gone in the wrong direction with this. Not anyone's fault apart from mine for not finding out first. I'm terrible for seeing something thinking it looks interesting and just jumping in. To be honest I think it's a bit of a white elephant and it's probably going to be tricky to sell, I'll try here first but I suspect an eBay auction will be my best bet. My plan now is to sell this and possibly my Yeti then buy an scx10 kit and just take it slowly. I'll enjoy it more and end up with something much more usable, it's also what I should have done in the first place.
  3. Thank you, I might give it a try. I got this rig to a point where it should work, only for the motor (35t rc4wd) to burn up on it's first gentle indoor test run. This having read up a bit is because the worm drive is a killer for brushed Motors. An expensive sensored brushless setup is the best cure by all accounts and if I was going to make that kind of investment it would be in one of the trucks. The whole point of this was to try to find and inexpensive way to dip a toe in the water with a crawler. The more I read up on this crawler the more out of my depth I feel to be honest. It seemed like a good idea but this one seems like a very specialized pain in the ass (my own fault should have done some homework first) and I can't afford an scx10 right now. So I think I'll probably put in the for sale section and recoup what I can. Then maybe have another look at a proper scaler/crawler next year.
  4. Would you be willing to sell the spare ESC? Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
  5. So this evening I thought seeing as my back is completely borked and I'm sick to death of watching TV I'd prop myself up at the desk and start tinkering with the crawler. The first problem was that bizarrely the mounts for the mini servo are both the same instead of being left and right hand sided. So after a bit of thought I realized that if I turned it upside down, supported it with a sleeve underneath and used a longer screw it would work (the part containing them is nearly £10 which is ridiculous for half a dozen bits). So I got it together and ran the Rx of off am old hump pack I had. This is where it gets even more frustrating. So centered it up as per instructions and carefully (small amounts at a time) adjust the servo travel again using the measurements given in the instructions. It became clear that with the amount of travel in the instructions it simply doesn't disengage, but it does need quite a bit of force as the drive is spring loaded (that's what keeps engaged if there's no servo). It's tricky even by hand to be honest so I even took it apart in the end because I wanted to see it myself and check nothing was obviously broken, but it isn't. So extending the travel makes it work but then it's also as if the the center of travel is wrong because it seems to require more travel in on direction and in the other it's limited by the gearbox case. The disengage point is right at the end of the travel so it's proving very difficult to end up with enough travel in both directions and not having the servo buzzing away because it's run out of travel. Anyone else ever bothered with the DIG feature? Is the servo not man enough Or am I just not adjusting it correctly? Is there something else I'm missing?
  6. Hi all, So despite telling my wife no more RC buggies I saw this for sale a few weeks ago and thought why not seeing as I've always wanted a go with a proper crawler. So that plan is to get it going (complete with Dig function) and see if I enjoy it. The seller (Oh How Original who was a pleasure to deal with I hasten to add) included a 27t motor and a hi torque servo for the steering. I also have a mini servo brought from another member of the forum. Fortunately I already have a 3 channel Rx for the spektrum so just an ESC and battery to go.
  7. Took a shock apart, nothing noticeably wrong. however they where low on oil and it was a grey colour. I emptied the oil into dirty tub so a picture wouldn't really help, I'll find a clean one for the next one.
  8. I'm not really sure what's going on with my Yeti but something doesn't seem right with the rear end setup. to the point where lm losing interest as it seems like I can't see a way of making it right. Oh How Original sold me a Losi crawler and we got around to the subject Ian pm and he suggested that the shocks might have been built wrong, I didn't built the kit but purchased the built so I have no idea. Anway here is a short clip. There is nothing unusual really just a 52000mha 2s hardcase LiPo, brushless motor and ESC. The adjustment is wound completely own yeti it's sat almost on the bottom of the shock travel and unless I'm missing something it can't ride like that as stock surely? If I set the adjustment to stock there's hardly any travel. All completely stock (kit) apart from a few small ally upgrades. When it's running it seems okay because the suspension is quite sloppy so if you run it the go press it down its often sat a bit higher up. So any ideas? or is this just how they are and I'm worrying about nothing.
  9. Yeah I kinda guessed that might be the case. Just trying to avoid more stuff than is necessary in the crawler. A UBEC sounds like a good plan though just to keep everything working as best it can. The HobbyWing looks like a reasonable bet to be honest. The castle creations sidewinder seems to be good, but quite expensive by the time you've got the programmer. But would give me a brushless option down the road if I wanted it.
  10. Thanks but I think I'did rather look for just a Spektrum RX as I have a dx4 already. If you do split the rx's give me a shout though.
  11. I'll take the servo please. Get me a price posted and I'll PayPal you.
  12. Hi all, I brought the Losi Comp Crawler recently in the for sale section. I need the following to get it up and running. Some kind of brushed ESC, needs to be 3s capable and have LiPo cut off. A UBEC would also be nice as I need to run a high torque servo. I want to run the locking system so I'll also need. A mini servo (not micro as is used in the Summit) Either A three channel Spektrum rx or A TX and RX that's three channel.
  13. To be honest honest I'd probably tell someone bugger off too. My fault for not checking or asking for more information. It was just a spur of the moment thing and I was very busy at work so haven't had much time for rc stuff. Maybe I've been lucky but I've not really had much trouble on here, only once very early on (and it transpired the guy was at it everywhere). Never had a problem with big trades or purchases. Although I do worry about it when I do it with more expensive things. I think the best way to view it is most things are for sale for a reason and they're either knackered or unwanted. It's just trying to judge which is the reason. I'm annoyed a bit but with smaller stuff I always think am I worried about losing the money, if the answer is yes them I wait and buy it new. Facebook selling pages in particular seem to just be a scammers paradise. In the very early days I had some great stuff, now it's just full people who think they'll make a quick buck horse trading crap.
  14. Sorry thinking about it quoting you probably made it look like I thought you were in some way connected, that's no what I intended all. My apologies if you felt that I did implicate you in some way. To be honest life's too short, I've been too busy to check and I think going back over a month later is probably going to be tricky at best. I can't see how he wouldn't have known as It's got an piece of something very crudely glued to the split. To be honest I wasn't really impressed when I got them because I'm certain they've been reglued. I should have paid more attention and realised there was probably a good reason they where cheap, but it was just a spur of the moment purchase. All part of the risk you take every time you buy second had.
  15. Small update, I'll post a picture tomorrow, but I knew there was some damage to a rim of these trenchers. I've been really busy and just chucked them on and put the Summit back on the desk. What I didn't realise until yesterday and wasn't mentioned was the 1 inch long split right in the middle of one tyre that's been bodged back together by gluing something over the top. My own fault for not using the forum as I've never had a bad experience on here, in fact I've had some cracking deals and tried to do the same for others. It's a chance you take when buy second hand full stops guess. What I saved I'll spend on a new pair of wheels and tyres because they'll just let moisture in with no way of drying the foams, so I might as well have just waited and got them new. Last time I buy rc stuff on Facebook groups though. Mind you it's the same for all these these Facebook selling groups, it's just rife with chancers selling crap, more hassle than its worth.
  16. I'd like to know how you get on with it because I might give it a try in the E maxx as a slightly more budget alternative. Sent from deep space
  17. I've been using one of these in my Summit as a single servo. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/savox-sc-1256-coreless-digital-servo-high-torque-/rc-car-products/31644 It's a 20kg servo and I've never had a problem with it, so to be honest I can't see why either of your options wouldn't work. I've never got round to it but it would definitely benefit from running a separate BEC to power it. Funny enough I have been trying with the idea of looking for two cheaper 20kg servos and running two, but when I stopped and really thought about it I've never found the Summit lacking it steering performance.
  18. Yes they where mate, I haven't brought anything from Facebook before, but they're were cheap enough to take a chance. It would have been ages before I could afford to buy them new. There's some damage to one wheel where I can only assume some had to drill a nut off, but it fitted up fine and it hasn't damage the hex. The Traxxas ones where great to be honest, but where getting holes in the sides almost every time I ran them in the woods. Two where pretty buckled as well.
  19. Small update, My nephew managed to do this as he's still learning throttle control. Long grass wrapped itself around the shaft and hey presto, it's broken. It was a bit knackered anyway I spotted these on a Facebook selling page, I've wanted to try a set but never had enough spare cash. So they've gone on, I'm hoping they'll be better for the woodland bashing/trailing I mostly do. The standard traxxas ones are lovely and supple for crawling, but balloon a lot and I've glued dozens of splits in the sides. They're not very true any more either. I think they look quite good, much firmer but I suspect much more grip and stability. That's it for now, I think a new pair of LiPo's might be next. But who knows what I'll see that'll suddenly spark my interest?
  20. These to fix the Summit and E maxx An this although it didn't technically arrive in the post and I had to collect it No more trying to clean dust and water by blowing Sent from deep space
  21. Yes I did see those, but looking at the close up shots they'd want to be cheap really. I'll do some homework see what I think, part of me thinks just hunting for the traxxas ally big bores might be my best bet as I know I'll be able to rebuild them, where as some random Chinese ones could be more tricky.
  22. Thanks for the pointers. I think softer sprung and damped might be the way to go, but I'll try and do one change at a time. So I thought seeing as it rubbish outside I'd take a look and see what's what. I'm waiting on spring retainers as I've somehow lost one and I thought I'd try swapping one pair of springs on the rear. I should have expected what I found really, one thing I know from all of the traxxas stuff I've had is how shockingly crap their standard dampers are. Resulted in this The next one was the same and I pretty sure this is the wrong size for the damper as it was actually inside it when I unscrewed it All to be expected with a second had truck especially when you consider that these dampers really just seam to bend with any use. So I have chucked them back on for the time being. I don't see any point in rebuilding them because they'd be bent again as soon as I use it and buying the refurbishment kits would probably be well on my way to looking for something better anyway. So literally the only part left of the original truck once I replace these dampers is the wishbones and shock towers lol
  23. Dave thanks for clarification of what I was thinking. For a relatively big truck it certainly doesn't roll much that's for sure. But because I've been trailing/light bashing with it I think I'll try a few different combinations as it could possibly do with being slightly softer to help over rough ground.
