  1. can u point me to a good metal spur.0.6 or 48dp, pitch and between mid40's to mid 70's tooth, doesnt matter, willing to get pinions to match and compensate. being able to use various size spurs AND pinions will really open up the gearing variants.
  2. Are connections clean on esc?clean up and retry..if no worky ..then ,swap esc and steering plugs from the tx around. trigger should operate steering, wheel should operate motor. if trigger operates steering at least u know handset is ok.etc...etc. now unless your esc has visual signal of operation(led) you wont know if fault is with the esc or motor. easy method is to test with esc motor output with a multi meter.
  3. .....but what about esc and motor runnig hot at same time?
  4. Ta hyper d..lj22 if you get a good pinion and mesh it up well( many tips in guide for this) the plastic will be fantastic.... i had probs but it was soft alloy stock pinions wearing and chewing the teeth up.
  5. reason for prior question, motor and esc getting very hot running new 15t 540 firebolt using 17t pinoin, my knowledge is minimum, but i know if only esc is hot to gear down, i would guess if only motor hot to gear up,and take a way out punt that both hot is down to too few turns on motor for esc???? the old 550 motor ran hot with the esc but not like this.the same motor and identical esc are in 2wd e firestorm the new 20t is spot on with the 17t pinion....got my traction..... seems smoother...can get the power down now....good top end too....stays a lot cooler than 550...gonna try pushing it by lowering pinion size in stages down to 13( already had to file out motor mount to fit 13t with stock can) in fact i may even try upping the teeth just for fun. so far have learned that on a carnage the ftx550 can is a good can,far far better than the 54015t firebolt but the 540 saturn 20t is better for the surface we bash on.. if i cant get firebolt something like i will have to file it under science fiction and get another saturn. its getting time for batteries and have been running 3300 nimh and have contemplated lipos, we are using probe wp esc which are 2s compatable, any suggestions for batteries and good charger..
  6. Have seen a thread about cause and symptoms of over heat problems and now cant find it......over gear=hot esc, under gear=? ...what causes hot esc and motor....can anyone answer or point me to the item pls..
  7. Sits nice and low, looks good. Thanks chewbacca for motor advice. needed 2 asap, ended up ordering 540 saturn 20t and 540 firebolt 15t. got firebolt as a near like for 550 ftx motor, which i would have got if in stock.both our stock motors gave up within weeks of each other, thought first one fried but when second one went i stripped it open and realized it wasnt an overheat problem, it was the motor fan drawing debris from the track into the motor, in said debris lies old rusty tiny chips and grains of metalic mayhem which have damaged everything in the can....have now made mods to shroud the(new) motor vents.I put high temp synthetic bearing grease(like a paste and used on hgv) in the diffs a while back to stiffen them up, it worked a treat, more like a LTD slip, but had to make adjustments to track and camber on front to sharpen up steering. They both stick to the ground like muck magnets when cornering. Will see how 2 motors compare and if 20t helps resolve traction problem.......maybe i am expecting too much of these cars,we give them a serious bashing in all weathers over rough terrain and big jumps and have to make regular repairs but still, for the money i think they are good, you get what you pay for but then again plastic is only plastic and it all breaks the same! It seems limited to the body shells you can get to fit well and have been looking around and think i have found two projects, one for each carnage. one is a mk1 escort shell to fit like a SCT and extend bumpers on chassis and other is to rat rod a rolls royce hearse (g digger)....may turn out pants, will let you know.
  8. Am quite a good paint sprayer, not yet tried on something this small yet.got some cool ideas for paint jobs for 66. rat rod rusty look ,custom red body and arches with wood effect flat bed and box sides or even a race paint job with a rear roll cage and a wing like on transformer truck ...
  9. have tampered with pinions and still having traction problems...bashing on loose dirt on our large back garden track, cant change the surface too much, running on mx style badlands (much better than std carnage) so i am looking at other options with car. not many tight turns on track, couple of good burms and lots of hoops and jumps along straights.traction when cornering is ok but when accelerating the power is too harsh too much low end grunt......its not just a heavy trigger finger.
  10. Any one fit a pro line 66 ford f100, or 50 chevy body ???? any pics. considering one of each for our two................
  11. This may be a silly question.........but whats the difference between a 540 and 550 motors? Iam looking for advice, was wnodering if i could fit a 540 motor to my carnage, esc ..probe wp has min of 15t capability. Was looking for something with a bit less grunt/harshness.Will be shopping at MS.
  12. shaft pins.......stud lock or bearing lock made by loctite will hold the pins in the shafts. for the pins make sure you use the permanent type of loctite, for grub screws use the semi permanent. hope this is usefull.
  13. Gooood ideas!just tried body clip(std ftx) cos dont have a harp string to hand....fits a treat! noticed though a bit of flex in the pin, body clip is spring steel.will try tempering it ,should harden off.1.5 pins may be a little too large in dia for the cv cup holes but fits inside the dog bone uj(checked with 1.5 drill bit)but carefully heating up the cv housing does allow the pin to interference fit.
  14. talking about cvds, sheered the pin holding dog bone into cv. have removed cvd ,pulled back rubber o ring and removed the remains of the pin. no damage has been caused to the cv or shaft and the internal uj bearing is fine.NOW have measured the sheered pin at 1.5mm dia and estimate length at 9 to 10mm.(many pins available/various manufacturers @ a few quid).thought its cheaper than cvd kit and if its done it once it will do it again!......HAS anyone done this before and can you confirm my pin measurements.
  15. Iam totally uneducated in this sort of thing guys,What is Pm? Also fried stock brushed motor on 1 of carnages yesterday, any advice on a new one, other than std ftx stock.using etronix probe wp. want to keep it brushed(for 7 year olds). What do you experienced guys think of the ftx 55o stock motor.
  16. Are there any more of the metal spur gears available????
  17. A little help and advise please. Tyres havnt seemed right on carnage for a while(cars new at x mas),unfortunately one got caught and torn yesterday and i noticed the insert had just turned to powder!being curios and knowing i at least need a pair of tyres i cut into another tyre to find the same powdered mess. Should this have occured and what may have caused it?Any advice on new tyres and wheels(running on gravel and dirt track). Both the brushed carnages have had replacement etronix wp probe esc's fit and start power set to max as advised, what do the start up settings alter, and if on a lower setting would the car still reach full power? When carnage prop pin came out causing it to be just rear wheel drive it doughnuted every where,no traction, why? and is this how other 2wd cars react/handle?
